The Dedicated Healer
How much does it bother me that I am FORCED to use anybody?
Always.
"If the game has made strong efforts to ensure that offense is just as important as defense, does this still matter? If you can customize each character and choose who gets healing spells, does it still bother you when the game ropes you into only having one dedicated healer?"
Usually, the problem is that defense is more important than offense. If you have made offense 'just as important' that actually further exaggerates the need for strong defenses - especially if you only get to have one healer. If I can customize everybody why would I still only be able to have one dedicated healer??? This makes no sense. FFX-2. I can customize everybody's classes and make them all white mages or secondary white mages if I want to.

FF6: Can customize everyone, can make them all learn Cure3
FF7: Can customize everyone, can equip Curaga materia
FF8: Can customize everyone, can make them all learn Curaga

I feel like some of the people making venomous posts were also some of the people posting the most intelligent feedback. Buried among the early FT3 threadwave were a lot of very valid design points coming from a lot of people, including those most guilty of perpetuating the mockery aspect. I'm sad to see a community that had at least some objective and articulate members come to a close, even the ones I don't always agree with, especially when that intelligence and conscience of design extended to almost everyone present, regardless of how good/bad their attitude is/was.
(also a shout out to the person who told me I seem perpetually infuriated: I must just have THE GIFT of typing that way but it also probably has something to do with my tendency to use bold and italics and SEEMINGLY RANDOM CAPS emphatically)

After I raised these issues in the past he discussed implementing changes to RMN's system to improve the site, but the changes never happened. .

All you did was repeat points you've already made (and in fact, linked to an extensive piece of writing to this effect).
edit: well if you're "absolving" WIP of guilt I GUESS but for god's sake front page visibility is just not an issue anymore

I feel the reason the site didn't become a beacon of passion and quality is mostly because the established system for content delivery failed to reward quality with visibility, instead allowing the dubious merit of sheer volume to reign supreme while effectively and intelligently constructed work admired by the user base lay obscure under a horrible, festering, and ever-increasing girth. The current visitors toiled in dissatisfaction while potential new members saw little cause for enthusiasm.

Persona 2 comes to mind. Once you have a reason to go there, new districts of the city SUDDENLY appear ... where I should have been realistically able to walk down the block and be there
