Where did RPing go, and Why?

author=Craze
Persona 4 is... not RPing. You build dating sim stats and eat shitty food cooked by animu girls.

in what way are you not RPing as an eight-timing douchebag with bad taste in women? I can totally be a dick, or a smooth charmer, or... you know, whatever responses I decide best fit the role I'd like to play as

edit: although the game does encourage you to be a sociopath and just say what people want to hear

Unusual Concepts In RPGs

Stop being an ass, Versalia.

Fine, it's not "common," but it's not unusual either. It's existed in many, many forms (and even as the central gameplay mechanic for MULTIPLE games).

I'm not being an ass, either. I'm merely stating my opinion, whether or not it differs from yours. So fuck you.

I think the question here might be less of how common it is and more of how much value it actually adds to a game such that it would/would not be included in more popular titles.

Maybe you'd like to actually discuss the point that I made that it might have fallen into exclusion because it doesn't add anything especially interesting to those games' style of play (after all, Diablo 2 is vastly different from Disgaea 2, and neither of them would be able to incorporate it in an INTERESTING way. Plus I cited a DIsgaea-series game that DOES include this...)

Unusual Concepts In RPGs

I really don't think you can call it uncommon just because it wasn't in several high-profile games. Honestly it's like saying something is "uncommon because WoW doesn't have it" (if there is anything they don't have, that is). It's included in a variety of games of the period you described regardless of whether or not those are 'flagship games' (sorry but I consider BoF2 a classic RPG "flagship game" and also Secret of the Stars).

I think the question here might be less of how common it is and more of how much value it actually adds to a game such that it would/would not be included in more popular titles. And regardless of commonality, it's not an unusual concept

What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

Skip Gau because he will continue to be effective throughout the game, you should give some attention to Celes or one of your characters you feel is not up to par at present

Also I remember enemies there using Bolt2 or something, Runic ftw

Get Arcanum, it is an amazing game with a ridiculous amount of replay value. Like Oblivion, you can pickpocket, kill, etc anybody you wish. You can break into homes, steal the clothes off sleeping people, pick shopkeepers' chests...

Almost every quest has multiple ways of completion. (Investing a lot into Charisma and the Persuasion skill will make you able to talk your way out of 90% of situations. Of course you might cheat yourself out of EXP by taking 'the easy way out.' Later in the game you also need higher INT to be able to talk your way in circles.) If you have really low INT, you get "dumb" and retarded dialogue options... etc. Really well done.

Oh yeah and you can earn reputations. (Master Pick Pocket quest involves running around Tarant town naked. You get "The Pervert of Tarant" reputation)

More Videos Added & New Updates (Carpenters, Spar)

Indoor nature call = an earth spell that also hits flying enemies (earthquake and falling debris) ... if necessary. (I like that you have to go with a particular fusion in order to get an indoor effect otherwise) The problem with a flat-out chance of failure is that "you have a chance of doing nothing whatsoever lol" so the effects had better be worth failing 25% of the time (IE, 25% more damage output on average than an attack spell, or whathaveyou).

Lots of games do have heavy RPing though, you just need to play more western RPGs.
