I made this site and it's awesome. But I don't run it anymore. Now I'm just a plebe like you.

Intro

If you did everything, was there really a reason to repeatedly credit yourself for all of it?

Final note about survival

go ahead and penalize your players for wanting to see more of your game sooner

If that's your wish.

hahahahaha

Liberty Plays the Legion Saga Sagas (and other classics possibly)

I watched all of your LS1 LP and have been working my way through LS2. Good stuff.

Yeah I thought it would be pretty evident that you two dorks are talking in the wrong place. Move it to the game profile.

RMN in the New Year

Well of course it's the "toxic, poisonous, paralyzing" atmosphere that is interfering with the game making. This is a recursive problem. Honestly, it is hard enough to make games when you think that they will result in praise and encouragement--game making is hard work. When there is a chance that making a game will result in you being attacked or insulted, it becomes an even more questionable way of spending your leisure time.

Ipso facto, making games should be rewarded, not punished; (almost) no extenuating circumstances should interfere with this. The atmosphere of RMN can be downright hostile and repulsive. I'm using that latter word in its lesser used literal meaning, i.e. repellent. Not repugnant, but literally pushing people away.

Not sure what can be done about it, of course. I think that the management has been exhorting people to "be nice" for quite a while now. I don't know that I've seen a change, and if so, I don't know what direction it's been in.

There's a few ways to take it. Should someone be rewarded for putting in a lot of work and makes a trash heap? Or someone who only makes something "good" be rewarded? "Good" would be defined by whatever community is judging said creation.

Some people are more intense with what is made than others. I, personally, care little about how much work it took to make something if I don't like the result. In that case, what am I supposed to do? Am I not supposed to voice my opinion of my dislike? Would I only be allowed to say something if it was positive?

There are ways to mechanically reinforce positive feedback. Positive is what fuels people. Removing the ability to be negative is constricting. So what do you do? The only path you allow is positive and silence is negative. If the people say nothing, then it is negative. If they say something, it will only be positive.

I'll be making some changes to the way the site works that reflect a more positive thinking.

The old system is dumb, F-G. Please get off your broken record player.

To comment on this situation more, Vacant Sky pretty much trounced everyone for good reason: Misaos have always been a popularity contest and VS was able to get more marketing. Thus, it wins!

Unfortunately, there is no way to really determine "the best" in any category in a good way. No, having nominations doesn't help because it's just an additional step in a popularity contest. You can brute force it just like you can normal votes.

The only way TO create a best list, is to have a committee like how the Academy Awards works. But this goes entirely against the blood of this site and won't be something I'll implement. No user here is better than the rest and I'd shut the site down rather than implement something like that. (Yes I realize Featured Game goes against that and that's why it will be removed in the future)

There will be a post in the future about what direction the Misaos will take.

Yes they should. Just like awards are given out for X-Box, Wii, PC, Playstation, DS and so on.

So does that mean they should have awards for "Best Steam Game", "Best Games for Windows Game", etc? They are all PC games. With RPG Maker, you are making a PC game.

Why did a game from 2009 win in 2010?

These awards are flawwed too.
There should be:
- Best RPG Maker VX game.
- Best RPG Maker XP game
and so on.

No there shouldn't. People shouldn't give a shit what a game was made with.

More proof that you are all fucking slack asses. There will be no recounts or any random buzzwords like that.

My favorite is that people are like "WHOA WHAT IS THIS GAME" when it has been on this site for almost two years.

RMN in the New Year

Wow, what a crazy few months it has been. RMN has obviously been through some interesting staff shake-ups lately.

I have returned to try and help stop some of the madness going on here. It is not my primary focus. The site needs a technical mind to spin the wheels behind it.

What does the future hold for the site? No idea. I initially wanted to post "RMN4 is now in development!" but I am honestly tired. There are a lot of great ideas floating around that would drastically improve the site. Unfortunately ideas are free and cheap but work is not.

In more positive light, a lot of great things happened in 2010 for RMN! We had a handful of very successful events. Super RMN Bros. was a successful event that created a really bad Mario game! Hopefully our skills have improved since that debacle and we will have even more events this year.

Game profiles have also started packing a lot of visual punch to them. Very nice to see some people flexing their design muscle.

The 2010 Misaos garnered twice as many votes as the previous year. That's better, but people really do need to vote more.

People do need to stop being so poisonous. Not every thing that is done is out of spite or selfishness. This site is supposed to be about creating games. Why are we not creating games? Why are people getting bogged down in senseless gossip? I love to chit-chat myself, but there is a point where it becomes toxic and paralyzing.

We need more games being made. More passion pumping through our veins! Less talk, more make.
