YEASTER'S PROFILE

Hi! Thank you for peeping at my profile.
I like making modern-themed games. My first game, Onyx, was made in 2006, when I was a senior in high school. So it's pretty ROUGH, but people seem to like it? Total Chaos is my personal favorite, but it has some, erm, issues, too. Mystery Man Zero is coming you guys, I haven't forgotten about it. A full-game will come out even if it takes 10 years. Oh gosh, I hope it doesn't take that long, but you get what I'm saying, right?
Right now, I am also working on A Nightmare in Sunnydale, a horror genre mesh-up fangame, if you will. I also like playing games. Actually, playing RPGM games is legit one of my favorite pastimes. *insert smiley here*
When I can fit it in, I do a little bit of Gatekeeper as well, a sci-fi fantasy about a team of god-lite forces, Gatekeepers, who have to protect the dying Earth from forces they don't even know about.
If thou think they can take it, download some of my stuff!

How about this; are there any cliches that you LIKE?
I don't mind cliches if they're used right, but my favorite is the whole, "technology is evil" thing. Most "advanced cities," like Zeal and Vane or whatever, look really good and usually have great background music.
The only problem is that those places usually end up getting destroyed. :(

[Second Demo] Mystery Man Zero
No, this is much, much lighter. Still a little dark, but nothing like Vanity (which I am still working on).
This game isn't really a "serious" project. Just something on the side I'm doing for fun. I wanted to do something "new" to take a break from Vanity.

[Second Demo] Mystery Man Zero
- Hello, all. This will be a short, side project, a dark comedy that will probably be around 7 or 8 hours, no where than 10. The file size, I know, is steep...but thankfully, by the time the full game comes, it will more or less be the same. This "demo" is just the first dungeon. Perhaps if the feedback's good, I'll make a "real" demo. Otherwise, I'll just wait to release it until the whole thing's done.

The Pleiades watch over the galaxy, maintaining peace and order throughout the Milky Way. One of the angels decided that simply watching the galaxy was not enough, that they should use their powers and intelligence to control the galaxy, and expand its nation. After facing rejection, the angel took it upon himself to gain control, but his wicked plans came to a quick end when the fellow Pleiadians caught him and exiled him. He wasn't going down without a fight however, so he destroyed the Master Crystal, the centerpiece and power source of the Pleiades, and magically scattered its pieces throughout the galaxy.
Many years later, the Pleiades received word that the fallen angel has used planet Earth has his hiding place, and sent the best and brightest of the Pleiadian army to put an end to this villain. Among these soldiers is a man named Zero, who has the face of a man, but the body of a machine and the soul of a demon. Along with his partner, Jonas, and many others, Zero must find this creature and destroy him permanently. But is this task easier said than done? What is with the air-borne virus that turns humans into demons? And are the Pleiades hiding any secrets? All of this and more in this sci-fi, horror, comedic adventure of the century...

My point is not that I expect people to be churning out FF6/Chrono Trigger games on a regular basis, but that these one-man developers often STRIVE to create commercial-quality games, and fail at it.
I think "fail" is a strong word. Of course people want to make their games the very best they can make it, but one person can only do so much. I think comparing RM games to commercial games are horribly unfair, and I don't know why people do it (I guess it can't be helped?). Games like FF6/CT/etc were made with a much higher budget with an entire team of experienced programmers, writers, researchers, etc.

I loved CC's Dragon God song too when I first heard it. I thought it was incredible. But that was over six years ago and I wore it out a long time ago.
My all time favorite battle song ever has got to be Parasite Eve's 2 "Wipe Out the Creatures." Song's incredible. I can't find a link on youtube, though.

What does it take for you to work on your games?
I work on my games because I want to. I don't care so much for download numbers (which I am more than happy with), but for the joy for it.

Whatever it takes for someone to make a good game if fine by me! I don't care if it takes them a lot of time or whatever, that's their problem and price. As long as the game is good and makes me entertained, I don't give a shit how they did it. I suppose not everyone shares my views, but it is fine. Whatever floats your boat; even if I loved RMVX or RMXP, I wouldn't judge a RM2K3 game harshly or bash it because it's just as counter-productive. Whacha gonna do about it if some people like it? Slay them? Cast them from the village? It's not as if you can forcefully baptize them into the cult of new GAMS makers. That's why I have such a laid back attitude towards makers in general. People will do what they do, I have no influence over them. I am not going to argue about other people's opinions on this because it is your personal preference. It's like trying to argue with someone who likes … oh I don't know, hamburgers? And telling them that this taste better and you should eat it?
I am just some random person (I have no intention of influencing other's opinions) and people will do what they do. At least when it comes to games.
As for the topic itself, I don't have much to say about it. I like games â€" I like playing games, I like making games. To me it is just a hobby and it will always be a hobby, so I guess I am not that bothered about it unlike some other folk who wish to pursue a career in the industry so they have higher standards/feel more concerned.
My expectations of games are usually not high because, as a person that has zero interest in the field, I know it can be tough and time consuming to produce anything at all. Especially as a college student with so many other things you can do. So I generally appreciate most folks for putting anything out at all so I can enjoy the better ones.
Don't misconstrue my posts as an excuse for "shitty games rpg gams.†Not everyone will share my opinion and perspective, and I can respect that too. I am not saying you people are wrong, because it is like saying someone is wrong for liking lasagna. I just wanted to share my two cents and express my luv to other game makers who happen to be reading this (even if I didn't play your game).
Azn: I don't know what to say in your post either, besides I love using REFMAP, but I can understand why you don't like it, but it h-hurts my feelings when you sound like you are saying they all look like crap.
This is exactly how I feel, and that's not a bad analogy. XP and VX may be better programs technically, but if 2k3 does everything you need it to do and you already know how to use it, and it's still good, why upgrade to a new program only to start the whole learning-how-things-work process all over again? I'm still trying to figure out what exactly is the purpose of this argument, because a good game is a good game no matter what it's made in. If people don't give want to give a game a chance for stupid reasons such as the engine used to make it, then that's the player's loss. They're putting a limit on themselves when they don't have to.
And like other posters have already stated, the number of awesome games with 2k/3 far outweighs the number of awesome games with XP.
Some posters are forgetting that for most people, this is only a hobby. That does not excuse bad games however, but people aren't going to slave hours away learning scripts/codes/etc if they don't need to. The gaming industry is not a career path I plan to pursue so I have no interest in learning how it works. RPG2k3 does everything I need it for and I'm fine with that.

I am willing to argue one of the major problems is that people play these games at their desks.
Yes. I would play these games longer if there was some way I could take them off my computer. But that's just wishful thinking on my part. 20-30 mins, or an hour if it's really good, at a time is good enough for me.
Anyway, when it comes to playing games, I download whatever appeals to me, and I just assumed everyone else did the same. I don't write reviews nor do I always post in the person's topic when I'm finished the game...which isn't helpful, but...whatevs. If I really like the game, I'll send the author a PM or an email saying that he/she did a great job and to keep it up.
I don't entirely agree that people just post their games and want feedback, but don't attempt to give the same treatment to other people. There are people who do what that of course, but there are plenty of people who would rather play games instead of making their own.
