Your favorite type of thing to raid in RPGs

pretty much any of those can be good if its well designed and is relevant to the plot (no fillers!)

Sewers are usually just filler dungeons that are only there because the front door to where you really want to go is locked/guarded or whatever, but they don't have to be. I like any dungeon that appear to have thought put into them and have a few unique looking areas. straight lines with nothing to look at make me want to rip my hair out, however.

How do you like your world map?

it all depends on the type of game you want to have

my current project does not have a worldmap at all: it has a large map that serves as a sort of centrel hub, where all the game's areas can be directly accessed from (its pretty similar in style to Peach's Castle in Mario 64)

the new one I'm planning will use a worldmap that's just be one large country on its own continent

the type of worldmap you use will have a large impact on a game's sense of scale and style, so its worth thinking about what method will suit your game best

Naming Conventions - Characters, Spells, and More

For names I'll just use whatever comes to mind, they're usually names that are completely made up but every once in awhile I'll slip an actual human name in there. I try not to use foreign language words because I feel that the player will get annoyed at a game if its filled with names that he can't easily make a guess on how they should be pronounced.

for spells I try to use synonyms for the same basic idea, using more intense sounding words for more powerful variations of the spell (Cascade, Waterfall, Tsunami) I feel the FF-type spell naming method is a bit lazy and generic, but that's just me

Walking The Plank

I had no idea you uploaded this here!

I played a demo of this, the opening is all that's done right now but its good

The World Tower Review

It gave me the important knowledge that my bosses weren't well balanced, as well as some other things

I'm trying to rope aznchipmunk or someone else who actually knows how to make a title page to make a decent one, I think for a first project (not counting the ancient PS1 maker) I'm doing pretty well

The RPG difficulty problem

I avoid this problem pretty easily by having almost all of the monsters in my game not fight you unless you go up and talk to them (and they won't fight you again once you beat them) no grinding, no random battles

this is a very different way of doing things and I'm still figuring out how best to use this feature

The World Tower Review

there's a reason that title screen is not featured in any of my screenshots :)

Halibabica's Full Game Review ~ DEAD THREAD

heh, I enjoyed your review

it made me aware of several issues (though alot of it was stuff I already knew) For example, the kids will start learning skills at the end of the very next dungeon after the demo. Basically all you missed was one of Muffy's skills which I'll be sure to make more obvious what you need to do to get it, as its a pretty helpful heal single

also count on the boss hp to be reduced, I fell for the common trap of thinking they were easy just because I know the exact best way to beat each one

and HM64 Summer will be replaced with somthing else, the track I have planned to replace it is one of my all time favs so it should be an improvement

playing other RM games has insispired me to make the dungeons more interesting with puzzles and the like, this sort of thing is particularly important with a game that has no random battles

Hey, I got off my lazy ass and actually played Hero's Realm for a while today! Chapter 3 is no more, and I've already picked my Chapter 4 party. Although, I have to say, kentona, you must be the only person who can get away with an entire section of DBZ/anime references in a game. ::)

Kentona has not yet begun to insert references into his game!

Get ready to experience a couple of very obvious references to a certain sci-fi series once you get to chapter 5

Does anyone in Phoenix even know what hockey is?

I think they are called the Canucks.

and wow. Carolina just knocked off the east top seed Boston, in overtime.

ARRRGHHH! That could have been the CT Whalers in the conference finals!

Every time that team does good I think things like this, God help me if they win the cup again
