I eliminate grinding by taking a cue from the paper mario games and eliminating random battles
that way I have a very good idea of how strong the player will be when they reach each area and boss
it takes awhile to balance everything but this method reduces player frustration by a ton if you get it right

[VX] [community project] Anyone want to detail maps?

I went ahead and did the ruins map (the fortress) for you
some of those soliders are meant to move about as if on patrol, I think its pretty easy to tell which ones. Also if those waterfall events are in the wrong place then feel free to move them up or down so they look right (I always mess up the placement and have to check)
as for credit, just put me in the game's end credits, I don't need anything creative

hey it's catan
EDIT: sumbitch, top of page. ^ This was at yoshio.
BINGO! I always thought that Catan looked great and had alot of style, the geography of it was very diverse and I got the sense that a game's entire world could fit there
I spent a long time painstakingly trying to make the outline and those mountains exact as possible (though I did change up some things to make it fit with the areas I already planed to be in the game) I still don't know why I bothered :P

This is the world map for the new project I'm planning on starting
this is actually based on a small portion of another game's worldmap, can anyone guess it?
making good looking maps in VX can be kinda tricky but I think I'm really getting a knack for it, this is my first attempt at an overworld map, however

Time again, the NPCs?
I make NPC dialogue a priority, I try to add a bit of humor into it so the gamer won't feel like talking to people is a waste of thier time
I tend to do alot of lampshading, I guess that's just a habit of mine
I also do what Ingotsu suggests, it means that I spend a huge amount of time on random villager dialogue but I think my games benefit from it

I almost died laughing when I saw those things from bubble bobble
the only thing funnier is this submission is actually making some users upset

Oh and having blue hair means you don't have any personality.
poor Jayson (my avatar)
the thing I hate about these types of games is that they always take themselves so seriously, and there's like a million of them.
I prefer RPG series that have a sense of humor and their own unique style (the Mario RPGs and the Mother series) as opposed to ones that just follow conventions
