AFAIK you don't need Softy to do that. Just hack RPGmaker2003 with a hex editor although I forgot why you do that and edit the East font with Softy...oh wait you probably will need Softy to rename the font to RMFont or something, heh. If you need a detailed step-by-step guide er...I can link you to a GW topic provided I can actually find it.

As much as I like freedom of choice, I'd rather there be at least a handful of recommended games to play. Some games will be purged but how can I be sure it's not the games I play? It'd be a waste of time reviewing wouldn't it?

Again, I couldn't afford to buy MvsC2 but I got SNK vs Capcom: Mark of the Millenium. Not as great but it's more than what I hoped for.
