Do you really want to sell something that is "obviously inspired" on an existing game? I mean, I have nothing against the learning experience of you ripping - modifying - recreating? Not just the "color palette" or "tile placement", but the complete everything of the FF6 maps. But if you actually want to go out there and try to sell that... Man, that would be cheap!

The Here and Now of Yesterday

A video is supposed to play there, but I guess not all computer can play it... must be a codecs issue.

Try this one instead. Just paste it in the 'Movie' folder of the game, and overwrite the one that is there.

Circle of 13

Then perhaps it's better if you explain how your systems works or if you upload a YouTube video, instead of so many screens...

But anyway, I'll keep an eye on this game! ;)

Circle of 13

This looks like a nice game... but why did you upload so many screens that look so similar? xD

The images section is supposed to illustrate the content of your game, but if you upload so many screens of the same location or feature, people may think that you don't really have much content to show... Or worse. That you do it for exposure. =/

@Brady: You're right, you never said that the creator's ideas were better; but you keep saying that theirs take priority over anyone else's, and that not only conveys the same message, but is the one little detail I cannot agree with. Because for me, only REASON stands above everything else; not gut instinct, or artistic integrity or watchu-wanna-call-it... If someone came to me with substantial fundaments as to why change something in my game, I'd change it, as long as it were under my capabilities. And I say this as a hobbyist too. ;)

But anyway, Kumada is right. So, pour on your last thoughts if you want, but as far as I'm concerned this ends here.

And just to clarify. I'm not mad or anything. I may stress some words or cuss a little, but life is too short to get mad...

Seamus : Ruined Tower

Well, there are many character generators floating around the web. You could look for one that better suits your characters than the Rpg maker one. But if you don't really like to use faces, you have to make up for it. You'll have to make lots of poses and make the characters move, and stuff. Because in the intro they just stand still the whole time... If even that is beyond your graphical skills, maybe you can use some sort of visual clue. For example, have you played Golden Sun for the GBA? In that game the characters kind of shake(?) when they speak, so the eye is immediately drawn to them and thus is easier to relate the text with a character.

As for everything else. I'm sure that with more time to plan the story, to revise the maps, to test the battles; the end product would improve considerably -The battles are specially a concern, because, well, while I'm hardly a hardcore player xD I think can hold my own well enough in battle. And this time I just couldn't, mostly because the lack of 'flexibility' of the missions- so, once you address these issues, I'd have no problem giving this game another chance... So don't feel discouraged or anything, man. Keep it up! =)

@Brady: Examine what transpired here. Some people manifested objective complains about the game and suggested changes to improve it. And along came others, overly defensive of the author's design choices for no legitimate reason. "Don't listen to them. Only you matters. You're a hobbyist after all." are all cop-outs because they intend to prevent the author from weighing out his decisions against the ideas of his fellow developers, and thus failing to rationalize why they're better or worse. -No. They're better just because they're the creator's. Period.- And that just cannot stand. Not in a game design community. And I can't stress this enough.

@SnowOwl: Not at all, and I salute you for that! You seem to be handling this very well for what is worth, misunderstandings and all. ;P

Skinwalker

Oh, the good ol' "We're just hobbyists making games for free" argument. Why it doesn't surprise me that things boiled down to this? EVERY GOD DAMN TIME. Man, that's such a cop-out! xD ...just humoring that very thought is like giving in to mediocrity. Sure, there will come a point when practical experience will 'stonewall' you. But until then, is your responsibility to give the best of yourself and remain receptive to what others can teach you. Because you're here to learn, before anything else. And once you've learned enough you can keep going up-- It may sound harsh, but if you don't like this idea, then you're indeed better off building a train track in your attic, or something.

On the niche thing... I never said "mix all genres to please all audiences" if that's the impression you got. I talked about making "meaningful" additions to a game. I talked about visual novels not being my "cup of tea" but still being able to enjoy one that is well done. And I think most players are like this; so there's just ONE audience if you think about it. Sure, some people may gravitate to one genre more than others, but they're still knowledgeable of them and what makes a game good. And if a game is good, they will like it and play it.

@SnowOwl: That was just a fancy way to say you should find a balance between the two and let your game come to life on its own...
There will be times when won't know what you're doing. But as long as you don't go down the road of self-indulgence, you'll be fine.

Skinwalker

I think you used very specific language in that post I replied to, man. Don't try to spin it now. -_- "You're the ONLY ONE that needs to like your game" is not the same than "You need to like your game". Of course you have to like your work! But that goes without saying, really... Also, it's kind of selfish to put the author's vision above of that of the public's, and it's foolish to do the opposite. So the only priority should be the game itself. An effective game will always transcend its creator's wishes and the audience's expectations.
