The secret boss/level is:

Ah, thank you! Didn't notice that before. It might be easier to figure out if there were things that could be moved earlier -- I know I kept trying to do that, but everything could only be shaken. Regardless, that was pretty intense! I only won by the skin of my teeth. I'm going to make sure to stock up on healing items now!

And ah, yes, I found the clubhouse. When I saw the stat bonuses I assumed they were equipment, but given that you get access to the clubhouse pretty soon after, it's not a big deal.

Looks pretty cool! I'm excited to see more creepy dungeons like Slither's. Is it possible to kill Rad Ghosts, though? It looks like I need two castings of the light spell, and I can only ever seem to get off one before it runs. Is the Dodgy effect supposed to let it dodge magic?

Hm, it seems a bit mean to boot the player to the main menu at the end of the demo -- I didn't expect it to end there and lost a bit of progress. Maybe include a warning saying "this is the end of the demo, going through here will end the game"?

Also, where is this optional boss I'm hearing about? I'm pretty sure I've fully explored everywhere, including the mine.

BTW, when you use "cause" to mean "because", it needs an apostrophe, 'cause it's a contraction. I noticed this in Punch Tanaka's introduction, not sure if it's anywhere else.

Just discovered that the exit-to-worldmap jingle plays even when you start the game up after saving on the world map. Is it actually part of the BGM?

As Malandy suggested, there's a pretty big database of items, so I wanted to keep it organized.

I can see that, but maybe it would be clearer if the cursor was on "All" by default, so you could see everything you had first and could then sort it if you had to? That's the main thing that's bugging me; I'm so used to being able to see all my items at once in RPGs (I immediately go to the menu whenever I get a new one), so having to figure out where things are can be confusing.

By the way, what's the use of the "sets"? I can't equip them in the trinket slot, so I presume they're for something else.

Currently at the Giant Garden. Loving it so far. It's like Earthbound, but with actual charm and meat beneath the ambiance. Buck's personal ability seems pretty weak, though -- does it only trigger for regular attacks? It seems to me like that'd get outclassed by HP/MP regen pretty fast, assuming this is like most RPGs and things will become more skill-heavy later on. The exit-to-worldmap transition also feels a little lengthy sometimes, especially for the Unbreakable Bridge -- the world map music continues to play uninterrupted when you enter, but not when you leave.

The main thing I want to say is a nitpick in the cutscene with the Queen Bee: she says the appearance of the goons "cannot be more than a coincidence", which means she thinks it is a coincidence. From context, it looks like she means to say it isn't a coincidence.

(She also misspells "desperate" as "desparate")

(Also, the boxing gloves have "Buck only" on the same line as the main description, while every other exclusive equipment piece has that information on new line. Yes, I'm super nitpicky.)

Edit: Oh, also, the item menu is a bit clunky. I'm not sure if the submenus/categorization is really necessary, it just makes it hard to see where everything is. Could you move "All" to the top instead of the bottom, maybe?

Null Regrets Review

I'm not sure if he was intentionally written as putting her on a pedestal too much, but either way, it was a little uncomfortable that the only woman in the story was... like that.

That's a good point, but I think that's negated a little bit by the fact that he didn't get to keep her. I think that's an acknowledgement that she wasn't perfect and women aren't obligated to be trapped in over-idealized relationships.

(Also, I thought the fact that he couldn't do any damage to her, while frustrating from a gameplay perspective, was really sweet, and goes a long way towards showing Suit does have hope of salvation. It's cool when story and gameplay reflect one another like that.)

Maybe I ought to create a little codex for players to reference in-game? Hm...

Yes please! I always appreciate it when games with complex mechanics do that. It would also be nice to know exactly how critical hits work.

Characters

Mia could be a type of martyr that doesn't die?

Does such a thing exist? The dictionary definition says they're someone who dies for their beliefs.

Prayer of the Faithless

I think he was called Gourudo?

Gauron. I think.

Him being the first ??? is a good guess; his behavior does seem to fit being a "protector of the undeserving", and the gaunt face seems like it could match up... It's hard to tell without knowing the portrait's hair color, though.

- Meanwhile, things are going unbelievably smooth for Mia. The villagers love her, Paladin Jerkface has stepped down and everybody is going to follow her lead, reinforcing all the naive ideals she holds. Again, I'm reasonably sure that this is not going to last, but it still felt weird.

I don't think that's too unusual -- she took a very brave risk and was rewarded for it, that's a common narrative trope. And it expedites her character growth by placing her in an important position. I think what she's going to learn next is that being a leader is harder than it looks, and she may have to make hard decisions of her own very soon.

Vance backing down that easily was strange, but maybe he's planning to undermine her later. I suspect he's going to cause more trouble down the road. Or hey, maybe we'll get a lesson that being a cynical extremist doesn't necessarily make you evil and unreasonable? Wouldn't that be a refreshing change of pace.
