ARIEDONUS'S PROFILE

I have been fiddling with RPG Maker on and off for six or so years, and in becoming so accustomed to it, have been reluctant to learn to hard code anything. Despite that, I plan on going to school for Game Design, because I -love- making games (although I have yet to finish one, haha). I'm also pretty terrible at coming up with an interesting block of text about myself, so I am going to end this here! :D

The Best Game In The World
How Not to React to Criticism 101
What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?
author=Craze
My line of "hater" reasoning is that a rushed game, as fun as it might be, means that it could have been better and was thus wasted potential. You're being cheated because of greed.
Understandable, and I agree. My comments were mainly toward "purists" who don't necessarily dig the shift in combat and other features, because it deviates from the traditional formula.
For being made by Bioware it was pretty disappointing to hear that they reused environments and there's such a lack of polish with certain aspects of the game. I hope this rushed development junk doesn't happen with Mass Effect 3 or I will be at arms too.
What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

Haters can hate; so far I've had fun.
I imagine I will not be as excited when I've been to the same areas 10-15 times over, but I'm having a good time. The new combat is pretty legit, although I do wish it had a bit more strategy in the regular encounters besides blowing everything to hell. Overall, I feel like the game could have been quite a bit better, it was just rushed.
For the curious, I am playing a 2H warrior.
Walking In Tall Grass Without Multiple Events?
My first instinct is to say work something out using Terrain IDs, so that a parallel process event checks to see if they're in the grass, and if they are, the charset changes. I'm not entirely sure how well you can do that in some of the older makers, but I'm sure there's a script for VX out there. If you could tell us what maker you are using, that'd help us figure out a solution better.
Do You Enjoy Freedom?
author=LockeZauthor=EmanziAren't those two things mutually exclusive? Either the gameplay-hours-to-development-hours ratio is highest, or it's lowest. It can't be both.
Sandbox games take the longest to play and make.
I would definitely say it's lowest. Which is to say, you get less gameplay time for the same amount of development time. Making an hour of gameplay takes several times as much development time if you have to include lots of options instead of just one.
Notch and his gem Minecraft would like to have a talk to you, good sir. :]
I know you are probably referring to more "traditional" sandbox games that others have stated, but it does show that a game made in a (relatively) short development time can create a lot of gameplay time. Although Notch has seemed to start being lazy and not updating the game as frequently as he could, the framework of what is there already provides endless gameplay that won't easily bore you.
To respond to the OP's prompt, I have to be in a certain mood for the types of games where you have a ridiculous amount of freedom. Although I have probably explored every corner of the D.C. Wasteland in Fallout 3, sometimes those types of games are really daunting due to the sheer amount of stuff you can do. When you're somewhat of a completionist, this effect is multiplied (at least for me). When I get back from a long day at work, trying to juggle 20 different sidequests can be a bother.
