Feld, I like a lot of the points you bring up, as this has been bothering me for quite some time.

I've mainly been a lurker, following this same group (more or less) of people from GW to here as the years passed. While I understood the way of things, I was always hesitant to participate in the community because of the atmosphere. I'm not implying that the atmosphere is necessarily shitty, but it can definitely be misleading if you are a newer member and don't know the way everyone rolls around here. Although I probably still seem like a lurker, I was even more of one before you encouraged me to get out there and discuss shit. I'd venture to say that the majority of new members haven't had that luxury.

I consider myself to be someone who can take the type of criticism that is doled out here. The ratio of positive comments to negative comments, however, can be lackluster at times. I'm guilty of it (and probably everything mentioned in this thread, actually; I won't deny it), but we seem apt to find things wrong with someone's project and forget to point out something good every once in a while. I doubt this is done intentionally; we want to help and fixing the bad things is where you start, so we naturally point them out. Like Feld said, I don't expect happy sunshine shit, I just wish there was more of the occasional "oh hai, dats nice" on projects that aren't what we consider top tier games (Balmung Cycle, AAG, etc.). Maybe I'm missing where this is all happening in my romps through random game pages, this is based on what I've seen.

I suppose a part of me is disappointed (cue sad song). Pretty much everyone here is cool in their own right, things just come out in such a shitty fashion sometimes that it makes us look bad. I know I didn't take the joke topic Strangeluv made recently too well, although as harmonic said, that kind of stuff might not fall under what you're addressing here. Mainly I was irritated that the person's thread degenerated into people poking fun at him and misdirected my frustration into that topic. Admittedly, the topic is funny, it just hit me wrong due to circumstances I've already mentioned.

Ultimately, I like this site. I'm just hoping we can take a step back and realize that not everyone deserves nor understands the sarcastic-critical-humorous-semi-douchebag routine (not all the time, anyway).

I fully understand that this is a joke topic; however, it's a bad one. It's not in the right forum, it's feeding the bullshit that goes around here regularly, and it's showing just how much we don't give a shit about newer members. I fully understand that we all have the urge to poke fun at someone who doesn't quite get it, but no one bothers to genuinely help, it seems.

As much effort as it takes to make a terrible topic like this, one could simply explain (referring to the topic this one is mocking) that our community expects more credentials, examples, etc. before we will invest our time into partnering up. For a lot of people, this is their first time venturing out into a community like this and they won't immediately know all the procedures or etiquette. It seems like common sense to us, but that's because we've been around and we know the way of things.

Constructive comment(s): The high quality of the RTP graphics clashes with the lower quality of the mspaint. Making all the graphics be of a similar style will greatly increase the visual appeal of your game. Also, your charset version of the blue block doesn't have lines on his glasses like the faceset. Adding those in would be a good idea.
