@Marrend: OK, just got back into GIMP and checked the settings as noted. I'm using the "Model" file that was posted (I guess that's the "Medium build girl" with the English-translated layers). "Indexed" is not selected (and in fact isn't even selectable). So I selected the "Hair" layer, then went to "Tools -> Color Tools -> Hue-Saturation", and the message that comes up in the left-hand pane is "This tool has no options". Same message if I select several of the other tools. "Colorify" works, but it looks like that's just for filters, so maybe not what I want?
I guess a crash course on the help file is in order, because I am totally lost. The only thing I've ever used for image manipulation before is the old built-in Windows tool (MS Paint, maybe?), and even then it was just simple stuff like cropping, resizing or rotating/reversing images. Ah, well...

Well, after a few more "days" I had built Noriko's affection level to the point that I got the event. Almost immediately afterwards, I started getting random events again as well. Not sure if that's significant or not.
Now on day 140-ish of my full run-through, and am realizing that I definitely need more events. I don't have any post-ending-available events, for instance. I also finally have at least one idea for a dating event, plus a couple more of what I've taken to calling "interstitial events" (i.e., events that occur during the character's main route, but don't actually advance it).
So, definitely still a work in progress. Then again, I am a tinkerer by nature, so it will probably continue to be a work in progress forever :-/ . Might also have an idea for another character as well, but that's only in wishcasting phase for now, as I want to see how the community reacts to Noriko first.

Re: GIMP, I will check that out later today, thanks. I haven't fiddled with any of the options yet, so if "Indexed" is the default, then there you go.
I was just checking my code, and indeed if you picked the Iwao option in that spot you're booted off the route. Either of the other two choices is OK.
On my own play-through last night, I got up to day 100-ish (I'm playing in 151 mode), and it feels like I haven't even gotten a Noriko random meeting in about 20-30 days. Is that normal? I'm in a spot where her affection level needs to be at a certain point, and I'm having to pump it up via phone calls only, which is frustrating.

@Marrend: Depends on how you define "finished", I guess. I don't consider her finished by any real standard, but she's "finished" in the sense that she can be inserted into the game as-is, as she's got an intro, a dozen or so stories, and an available ending. I still need to get some music for her, and could stand to write a couple of phone stories at least.
Also, I believe GIMP hates me, as I have no idea how to even change the color of something. I followed the instructions, but the left-hand window said there were no options for any of the color tools. :-/ .

That usually takes me a couple days. After completing 60-ish days of my first full run-through of Noriko, I'm thinking that her events might be too clustered at the beginning. Anyway, I did upload my new character, Yoshimura Noriko, to my locker. Make sure clean mode is off if you're going to use her. No music yet, and only scraps of stories outside her main route. Using generic tachie set 26 (hopefully temporarily until I can wrap my head around GIMP).

Finished content
Greetings, all. I have uploaded a playable version of my new character, Yoshimura Noriko, to my RMN locker. I have not yet fully tested the character, but I have run her pretty thoroughly through Story Test mode. I don't yet consider this character complete, as she has no music, and only a couple of stories outside her main route (no phone stories yet), but I thought I might at least give folks a preview.
Note: Noriko needs to be run with Clean Mode off (she has a scene with one of the built-in characters). Also, she is using generic tachie 26 until I figure out how to use GIMP properly. I chose 26 for one reason - I picture this character with her arms crossed a lot :) .
Anyway, I will continue to work on the character over the next few days. If I get some feedback that there's something that needs fixing, or good suggestions, I'll do my best to incorporate those; otherwise, I'll just wait until I consider the character complete.

OK, so just call me pesty...
Is there any way to suppress the screen wipe between stories? I had a story/branch chain (i.e., too many checks/choices for just four branches, so it leaked over into a new story) that all took place in a classroom, and it just looked odd to have the screen wipe to the same image.
(Edit: n/m, I answered my own question again. I just removed the PLACE command from the header. I actually thought I'd already tried that. Need caffeine.)
I think Noriko is almost in testable form now. I've got almost all of her main route, a couple additional scenes, and most of her profile (still need to make a few more custom responses) done. Music/non-generic tachie will come eventually. The only major scene I've yet to write is the one that actually unlocks her ending, but I know what I have planned for that. The thing I'm finding difficult to create are PHONE stories. I want to have at least a couple, but for now I'm drawing a blank. Ah, well, I guess those will come, too :) .

Yeah, that's not going to do what I want it to do, unfortunately. I guess I'm just going to have to set it up like one of those "Hi, <player>, I'm going to be at PLACE if you want to meet me!" random events (e.g. Keika's swimming lesson), and if <player> never shows up, he never gets Noriko's ending. I kind of wanted more of a sense of immediacy to it, but I guess that will have to do.
NORIKO UPDATE: Eight stories now complete -- looking to do at least three more to complete her primary route, with at least one side-story in the works -- including the ending story. No phone/city stories yet, but a few ideas are rattling around. Still need music, and (hopefully) real tachie. Learning GIMP still on my plate :-/ .

author=MarrendDarigaaz? Had to Google that one...haven't played M:tG in about 15 years. Still not clear on the usage, though.I've been using it as a play on the phrase "Dear God", actually. I've tried to get my local M:TG group saying it but the results are mixed.
Ahhhh...gotcha.
OK, so, I hate to be a pest, but I have another technical question. Am I correct in assuming that if I want a scene to change to a different location, I need to start a new story to get there? That's how I read it, but it would be cool if I'm wrong :) .
Edit: Well, after looking a bit through the story files, it looks like I can also change locations via a branch, which works well enough, I suppose.
Since I'm here, I am curious about something else. I'm thinking that I want Noriko's "ending available" story to occur on a date for which she asks the player out (e.g. via interrupting another call / texting the player during the day). Any ideas on how I can do that, code-wise?

Got it in one, Marrend, thanks! I was using Masako as a guideline when I first set up the file, so I just put the one file name in the header, but never went back and added the second file name. It was right there in the help file, too :-/ .
