Removing Dead Ends in Games
Most of those dead ends you marked out are clearly visible before the player goes down them. That is the difference between decoration and a dead end, imo: if I go all the way down a path only to find nothing, I get miffed. If I can see there is nothing, then alright it's some cool cave variation and adds to the environment.

author=Corfaisusauthor=PentagonBuddyWhat Disney villains are we talking about here?
This still happens, for the record. One of those shitty ideas Disney often promotes to kids? Consistently coding their villainous characters as if they are LGBTQIA+. (Honestly for me as a kid it also just made me identify more with villain characters. that's another thing you can talk for ages about)
Scar, Jafar, Urusla (who was literally based on a real drag queen) -- basically most of the Disney Rennaisance villains.
Really just like... any of the villains, tbh. If the villain is male and effeminate, they are absolutely being coded as LGBT. There has been a lot of discussions about this elsewhere in the past, so I'm sure you could easily look up a few and get more details on the subject that way.
(You can also probably check out how a lot of the villains are coded as Jewish, like Mother Gothel, but I'm not an expert on that and thus can't really comment beyond yup that sure is a thing that Jewish folks have noticed and discussed.)
Anyway that's all I have to say on that, since it's kinda off topic!
Who Are Your favorite Youtubers?
One channel and one series over here.
Supergreatfriend is probably my fav youtuber of all time! He's super cool and funny without ever dipping into gross shit wrt humour. He's also got the BEST radio voice, so it is extremely relaxing to watch his vids. I've learned about a few really cool games through his channel, and his Deadly Premonition LP is hands down one of the best LPs I've ever seen. SO THOROUGH... SO ENTERTAINING...
and he doesn't talk through the cutscenes ;___;
Dunno about the rest of the channel, but Polygon's Monster Factory is ridic funny. It has made me cry laughing, especially the Mass Effect 2 and Skyrim episodes. There's only 7 atm, but oh man they're all golden. <3

FF2's monster closets are one of the single most awful game design choices I have ever encountered in a game and I hate itauthor=emmychk-kawazu loves you too ;-;
FF2 was a terrible design choice from start to finish, EXCEPT for Mateus' character design. I am all about Emperor David Bowie.
I HATE FINAL FANTASY 2 SO MUCH ALRIGHT
/me does the little animal crossing angry dance
@LockeZ: idk what you're talking about, I thinking hiding items in pots and shit is a wonderful idea. I love that kinda thing and give 100% thumbs up to anyone continuing that trend.
I guess, when it really comes down to it, dead ends are kinda contextual? Like dead ends in a maze DO NOT PLAY NICE with random encounters! Also, it depends on what kind of dead ends we have: if the dead end is some gorgeous scenery, isn't that a reward in of itself?
I dislike dead ends with nothing because it makes me feel like I missed something, or I've gotten lost. Generally if I pick up $5 off the floor or find a potion in a chest, I mentally tick off that area and am done with it, rather than wandering around checking every wall and asking myself "why"
help with antagonist motive?
Sounds to me, based on the little you've given us, that the guy is less Evil and more "well I give up on this trash world."
An important part of the antagonist is to have them actually come into conflict with your protagonists! Why are they in conflict? What do your heroes see that the antagonist doesn't wrt to the state of the world? What's worth saving that the antagonist doesn't want to save?
Figure out who your heroes are and what they want, THEN come up with the antagonist, I say, since you're right: a guy destroying the world just because is pretty boring! If you're gonna use cliches, they gotta be there for a reason, and you gotta get creative. I mean... you don't ACTUALLY have to get creative, but if you don't, your game is gonna be pretty boring, and people will call you on it.
Good luck!

Grinding in RPGs
I hate grinding when it's mandatory and slotted into the game. If I fight every encounter I bump into while going from point A to point B, I should be able to beat the boss at point B. If I have to stop and grind for thirty minutes because the game is built that way, I get frustrated and stop wanting to play the game. If I have to stop and grind for thirty minutes because I'm BAD at the game, then, well, that's fine.
But yeah. Grinding is something I'm chill with so long as I'm making the choice to grind, not because it's a scheduled part of the game.

Well, I just gave this a play! It was actually pretty cool -- the writing was very good, it made me smile a bunch. <3
Battles were p simplistic for now, which was kinda dull for me...? I know this is supposed to be in the style of NES rpgs, but eeehhh, the "do damage until enemy dies and then heal in between" formula doesn't really do it for me anymore. I'd love to see future releases of the game play around with some more interesting skills that mess with buffs/debuffs and status effects.
The aesthetic was spot on! Even the music was perf -- a lot of these 8-bit games don't sound quite right, but this sounded like the real deal! So good on you for that~
Overall this was a lovely experience, and I look forward to seeing what you do in the full game. This has a real dandy concept and is wonderfully executed~
