Demon Slayer: Rise from the Ashes: choo-choo 2: Electric Choogaloo: A New Hope

um excuse u mira is here, having coffee with Me, while i massage her huge muscles and turn into a little slush puddle

(heehee i do love reading these updates, even if i'm up to date on a lot of these things. it's cool seeing all the work you've done compiled in one place ;w;)

Discrimination within the narrative

tbh i don't really like writing stories about discrimination because

a) if i'm talking about certain topics, like race, it's probably Weird for me as a white person to write an impassioned story about what it feels like to be a POC and experience racism when i have never experienced that in my life (like legit, why would i want to tell that story so bad), and
b) when it comes to discrimination i actually face irl, i don't usually feel like spending my time creating something getting upset about real bullshit i have to deal with. i recognize the place and value of stories that folks like me will tell about their experiences (case and point: Dorian from DA:I being written by a gay man and having part of his plot revolve around Fantasy Conversion Therapy), but maaan i just don't wanna do it? if i'm gonna tackle a serious topic, i'd rather it not be "here have a collection of characters you're all supposed to empathize with. now let's make one of them be a blatant homophobe so the gay character can get Uncomf but ultimately teach the homophobe to not be homophobic."

i just wanna make a game about underrepresented people being excellent, man. if you wanna write a v personal story, go for it! it can be real cathartic (THE LAST ENCOUNTER IN FREE SPIRITS IS BASICALLY MY MOMMA ISSUES) and can do some real cool things for other folks who share that experience/teach people who want to learn, but for the most part, nah. count me out.

I realize this doesn't appear to actually answer your "but how to do this" question, but it does! My answer is "don't bother, write about something nicer than systemic oppression unless that's the point of the story" which is not the "correct" response here, but it is the stance I usually take.

They were playing Phantasy Star on the last ep of Adventure Time.

"What a bad and boring game. Just what I needed." ~things i have said during periods of stress

Free Spirits

Molasses Meow sounds like a simply delightful cookie, alternately a terrible prank.

Thanks for the grammar heads up! I'll be sure to fix that. As for the rest of your comments: there should be something right on the screen that says "press shift for items" for that entire encounter, so if that didn't pop up for you, something is up and I will have to give that a look! As for any other Beckett issues: yup we goofed him a little, but rest assured that there is a much more better version of that encounter in the re-release, which will happen In The Future (COLLEGE AND MISC. ADULTING IS HARD OKAY ;_____;).

Thanks for playing! I hope you manage to bust Beckett. If you're stuck anywhere in particular, lemme know!

Happy 2016! Come see what I've done.

NAH, DHM, it's a hobby. Deliver at your pace.

I think this one was one the first RM games I downloaded and played way back when I first discovered there were people other than me and my sister who used this software! I remember being totally wow'd by it, so yeah it is super neat to see you still chugging along and making progress on this game. It's very inspiring! So thanks for bein' around and bein' cool~

I look forward to one day playing the finished product, whether that be in 1 or 30 years <W<

Thank you for explaining.
But I've already beat tutorial ghost and in bar, before written it all.

Thankfully there are three whole chapters after the tutorial! Here's hoping you enjoy them.

Ok, I was confused and didn't get it. Didn't know I offended you.
But... short name for Svetlana is Sveta, not Lana.

Lana calls herself Lana because she feels "Svetlana" is too Russian of a name to fit in with American culture. The game is set in a time when Russian immigrants faced open discrimination in the US, so Lana chooses to adopt a more American identity to dodge some of this/make a fresh start in a new country after fleeing Russia after the revolution. Though you can't hear it, she also has an accent that she has worked very hard to conceal! It's another reason she hates having her sibling around, as Kozmin makes no effort to conceal her accent and is openly proud of her heritage, not considering herself an American at all. This outs Lana by association.

Kozmin actually calls her Sveta all throughout the game, because she, being her Russian sibling, knows the proper diminutive for Svetlana. This is a sticking point in their relationship because it is evidence of Kozmin choosing to live in the past/wishing she could return home, while Lana actually prefers being American, as she has had access to new opportunities and chances to shape her life they way she's always wanted to.

You probably wouldn't catch this nuance from the game page alone, so I'd recommend you play the game if you have any further questions! Hopefully the material will speak for itself, and if it doesn't, feel free to PM me with any plot/characterization gaps you think you've come across and I'll be sure to address them.

PSA: The Gender Stuff

@Dragol: the post above addresses everything you stated. Please read it again and check out the supplementary material we linked if you continue to have difficulty understanding.

This is not a matter of grammar, but of gender. Kozmin's name is correct. Using "his/her" is transphobic because we have explicitly stated what her pronouns are in the post above. Please refrain from doing this again in the future. If you are unable to respect this request, I would respectfully ask you do not comment on this page further.

Thank you for your understanding.
