Testing

Aha! Forget what I said about there being anything weird with the RGSS. You must have been subconsciously trying to tip me off when you said "font" because this is a font issue! I should have thought of that earlier just from the fact that it works for other users but not for you.

Okay, try this one. If you get an error telling you a font is missing, check to see if you have it installed. The game only requires basic fonts that come on all versions of Windows but maybe they got deleted somehow? You need Arial, Verdana, and Tahoma at the least.

Testing

It was 'Front' instead of 'Font' right?
Okay, try this small test program and tell me what message you get. It's increasingly looking like there's nothing wrong with my code but something subtle going on in the RGSS base classes.

Testing

Okay, can you try this one for me? The game will hopefully print out a message when it quits. Please tell me what it says.

The reason you've seen those resources before but don't know where they're from is that lots of people (including, apparently, the author of this game) don't abide by his terms of use, which state that one must mention the site in a visible place such as the game's readme file.

Testing

Thanks for reporting that. Try downloading this file, replace the one in the game's main directory with it, and let me know if it works.

^ Muchos gracias. There's no workaround for this so I went ahead and put up a fix. For when you finish your content, make a note that your players will need v0.76 or later.

New version and website

I mean thank. Bad choice of words.
The pine aerosol is the rarest of all the random city events so it may take you awhile.

Very nice, Nekochi. You seem to know what you're doing there.

Not exactly intentional. Interestingly enough, I barely caught a glimpse of the front of the school before I jumped to wherever. Outside of that brief oddity, if you look at Ruri's code, that's exactly how it should work, given what I know of the system.

Hmm, in my version at least the place isn't set to Front B, meaning that you could be in the middle of the school day when this event springs up and suddenly you're in the city. Which I suppose is not game-breaking but....

About the use of punctuation in parenthetical sentences: In games, sentences in parenthesis are generally considered "thinking" lines. The character is not speaking, but a complete thought is ended by some manner of punctuation. Didn't your English teacher tell you this!? Even if it's a thought that trails off, there should be an ellipsis ("...") to indicate the action of trailing off in thought.

Fudge. Looks like I'll be spending the next hour or so going through all the built-in stories to fix the punctuation! (At least I know I'm right about one thing--that sentences that trail off have four periods; one to end the sentence and the other three for the ellipsis)

*Edit: As a total side-note and wanting to squeeze as much information into this post as inhumanly possible, I've yet to meet this NPC informant. I'm guessing I haven't played enough of the game, or the locations where he/she shows up is not where I normally frequent (stat-buff locations and the Internet Cafe).

You're right, the informant (like most other random NPCs) don't show up at stat-buff locations or the Internet Cafe. Also, the informant doesn't start showing up until later in the calendar.

Ah yes, I just remembered something... Marrend? Whats 'FOCUS', because the player dosen't recognise 'FOCUS' so I had to delete all the focuses off you Uchioniko profiles, what do the 'FOCUS'es do?

That's something new that was added to v0.74 that allows a hint-giving NPC to give a hint about the character. Versions prior to v0.74 won't recognize it.

The only qualm I have is that Junko's theme is the same song that plays during the janitor mini-game. It just doesn't fit what Junko's personality came off to me as. I don't have a better suggestion at the moment, but it might be something to consider.

At least people will get to hear the whole song for a change :) I'm always thinking to myself, "Damn, nobody is going to last long enough to hear how groovy this song gets because I (deliberately) made this mini-game so hard."

Enjoying Uchioniko & Junko so far. Here's a few small corrections:

Junko
Story 4
Look, Junko, I'll make a deal with you. I'll let you off just this once, but you have to do something for me.

In any event, we were hoping to find someone who could use this ticket.

Story 7 is a school story but it jumps to one of three city stories. Was this intended?

I can't help noticing that both of you end sentences in parenthesis with a period, unlike me. Have I been doing it wrong all this time? :(

Discussing Replay Value

I'm all about replayability. It's just about the thing I value most as a player, and strive for most as a developer. These are the main approaches I can think of:

1. Selection of races, classes, or builds, which affect the entire playing experience in fundamental ways.
2. Story branching based on player choices.
3. Extensive use of randomization.
4. Inclusion of an element of player-to-player interaction, including competition.
5. Unlockables, achievements, high score boards, and other incentives to get good at the game.
6. Optional quests/areas to explore.
7. Game content can be expanded.

My favorite games, whatever their genre, all do one or more of these things well.
I'm nowhere near the end of Dark Souls, but I know I'm gonna be replaying it mostly because of 1 and a little bit of 4.
