MLK: Fight For Freedom

LOL. What would MLK say about this?

Animetor, absolutely not. I need this kind of feedback because, as Marrend says, the app in hindsight was undertested.

Cavern of Doom Review

The problem is the community's obsession with reviews :P

Okay, it sounds like she assigned Masako a relation as herself in the Character Customizer (which is actually possible--that's something I had better fix) and saved the changes. The faulty profile isn't going to load in the Customizer any more, so unfortunately she can't go back and clear the relation. The solution is for her to delete the Masako content and download it again. Or, you could send her just the profile file again so that she has the correct copy.

Stat customization - How do you think it should be done?

As long as games have different things to offer, different people will play them for different reasons. Story, interactivity, milieu, social reasons (if it's an online game), etc. We can expect there to be a range of opinions about the gameplay mechanics of RPGs because RPGs tend to attract both the type who is mainly in it for the story/characters and the type who is mainly in it for the gameplay. To the former, complex gameplay can be a turn-off.

I suppose this is a function of where somebody lies on the casual-hardcore scale of enjoyment of an aspect of a game. The same kind of debate goes on in fighting game communities where the question is whether it's better for the timing of moves and combos to be strict or lenient. When timings are lenient, the hardcore player who masters them quickly soon grows bored of the game. When timings are strict, the casual player who for whatever reason isn't putting in the time to learn them grows frustrated and stops playing. (But to a developer, both hardcore players and casual players are an important audience)

There's a satisfaction that comes with mastering a skill, whether that skill is playing a sport, playing a musical instrument, or playing a video game. But just as not everyone plays a sport primarily for such a reason--some people play a sport for relaxation, social reasons, etc--not everyone plays a video game primarily for the challenge of mastering skill-based mechanics.

Yikes, that's a big bug. How did I let this one slip by? >< Very easy to fix, at least.
Try this version of the app. Unfortunately, you will have to type out the custom responses for your character again. Sorry about this.

^ Okay, you're right, there's a problem here. I'll look into it....

Testing

^ That's very odd since Masako doesn't have a relation declared in her profile. I can't replicate the error either. Is it possible at all that he could be getting Masako confused with some other content? Right now I can't fathom how that error could be coming up for Masako. Ask him for the complete text of the error message.

This may already be obvious, but I should also mention that supplying a focus attribute means that the character won't load in versions of the game prior to the current version, but in that case you should get an error message to that effect.

Heartache 101 ~Sour into Sweet~

V0.74 is out with a few new things (an NPC who gives hints about which attribute you should focus on, new board icons) as well as bug fixes, etc.

9/28/11 -- Also fixed faulty custom response assignments in the Character Customizer

Creating characters is so easy now that my cat just made one!

I'm glad that it works for you now. So it was a conflict in Ruby versions. We're lucky you mentioned that the console you were seeing was a Ruby console. That was the tip-off that you knew it was a Ruby program and therefore were likely to have Ruby installed :)
