How many Other slots do you need, Mintberry Crunch? It looks like more slots would be useful to a lot of you and I can expand that pretty easily.

Ichimaru_Gin, here's the link to medium build girl again.

I must have missed something, then. I was under the impression that we wanted to allow custom character developers the option to customize not only what the character asked in the first place for any given attribute, but how the character responded in each scenario.

Sorry for not being clear. What I meant was that I was hesitant at first because I didn't think people would be able to come up with too many new variants on the question asked and so I figured the custom questions would end up just being rephrasings of the same old question. But that may be an unnecessary concern. I'm going to add new custom responses for advice encounters just like the ones you have in mind.

Testing

That's true. It could be that at the time he forgot to include the line listing profiles at the top of the file so that commands changing the active speaker weren't being recognized.

Yep, foul language is fine, but a warning or disclaimer would be nice. Same goes for if anyone ever makes strong adult content, although that would be hard to do in this game.

Fun fact: I briefly considered using that character generator Animetor is using for this game way back in the early stages of development.

@Marrend
My concern about custom responses for advice events is do I let users come up with the advice event for each attribute? Like, for the Mind attribute, the character asks how to solve for X. What would be the point of allowing a custom response for how she asks that question if the question is going to be the same?

edit: Actually, I think I'll just allow it. If some custom responses end up being redundant or nonsensical, well, that'll be up to the author.

Just to be clear, having to rename your file is only a temporary workaround until I get out the next release. That was just a careless bug on my part and it has been fixed, so really, everyone should be able to name their files whatever they like.

But to answer your question, the game uses an index for each story that is not the same as the index given by users. This is necessary since two stories in two different files might have the same user-given index (in the built-in stories, they very often do). The index the game uses is determined simply by the order in which the files and the stories in them are read. So an inconsistency in read order was causing the indices the game uses to be off.

@Marrend
You make a good case for allowing custom responses for advice encounters. I didn't want to do that because, well, first it would mean adding a lot more custom responses. Let's see, five for how they ask the advice, five for their response when the advice is good, five for their response when the advice is bad, at least one for when the player declines to give advice. So 16 more custom responses.

That in itself wouldn't be a big deal except that I'm not sure about how to go about allowing the player to define a custom response for how a girl asks for advice. Should I allow them to come up with their own scenario? I'm not sure that's a good idea. Any other suggestions?

Testing

It shouldn't be necessary to leave a space in between symbols. Did that really not work for you? I can't reproduce the problem.

And if there are common alternate spellings of things, such as CENTRE, remind me of them and I'll consider making the game recognize them.

Higurashi! Cool.
Glad you were able to fix the problem. From the error message, it would have been something wrong with the "STATE =" field.

Hello flowerthief, I noticed you made all your characters from the same templates, and you just added a head for each of them, so could you simply give me the templates for the bodies, and then I can make my own heads, thank youse!

What you want is the "medium build girl" template, which has been linked to a couple times in this thread as well as in the help file.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the situation (I probably am!), but it seems to me that if he has a custom file that has the same name as a built-in module's file, the built-in module would, and should, have priority.

It was actually a discrepancy between the order in which the game read stories for a master hash and the order in which it read the actual content of stories (one was alphabetical, the other wasn't). But now that you mention it, giving a file the same name as another file would cause errors. I'm not sure what the chances are that two separate users might name their files the same name, but I had better do something to preempt such a conflict.

Anyway, I've hit something of a sang myself with one of my characters. I'll hide-tag what I'm currently working on, but I think you will see what I want to do with this girl:

Maybe...
CUSTOM 20 = *Muffled breathing*

For actual phone stories, I dunno, maybe she sends you messages while you talk to her on the phone? Are there cellphones that allow you to read email or messages while you've got someone on the line?

Btw, I like that 4-girl image you put up. If having only 3 girls appear on screen at a time in the game is too limiting, it's not impossible that I might be talked into allowing more. But if someone only need such a shot for one scene, I think they could work around the limitation by putting multiple girls into one image and assigning it as the tachie for an OTHER slot.

Heartache 101 ~Sour into Sweet~

It's worth saving the game manually once in awhile, not just relying on the autosave.

About Akari's route....
I wanted it to mirror the way in which paranormal reports heard from a secondary source can be interpreted in more than one way. When you hear weird things from a secondary source such as a friend or acquaintance, you can usually find a way to explain it all rationally. But...just maybe there could be something crazy going on. Whichever your favored interpretation, you can never be 100% certain of it. Similarly, with Akari's story, I did intend it to be as ambiguous as it seemed. However...
I think the story slightly favors the paranormal interpretation, doesn't it?

Testing

The robot breaking down occurs randomly. If it didn't break down for you then you had good luck :)

I'd rather not keep downloads of old versions of the beta around knowing what bugs are lurking in them.

That looks sharp. Good stuff. "Rartus" is a little hard to read, but there might not be much you can do about that.
