I've mucked around with game dev in my spare time since I was a kid, starting with custom text parsers and interactive fiction on my TRS-80 and Commodore 64, "make your own game" kits like Unlimited Adventures and the Bards Tale Construction Kit, dabbling in C# and Javascript, but I'm really not much of a code monkey.
Picked up Gamemaker in a humble bundle and RPGMaker MV in a steam sale, so I figured I might try to kick my game dev efforts up a notch. Scripting I can handle, I'm a writer, and I've produced podcasts and audiodrama, but I have zero pixel art skills.
I guess that's going to be a focus. Either learning pixel art myself, or hooking up with artists to collaborate on whatever.
First thing, though, is getting a handle on the engines themselves. I started out in GM making a dumb little "Shooting Gallery" clone. Start to finish, took me a day, and it felt nice to finish a project in such a short timespan.
So now I'm going to, I dunno, make some super-short RPGMaker games to get a feel for it. Like town-dungeon-tech demo short. Don't even know if they'll be worth posting here, but I'll keep you guys updated and if there's enough interest, we'll see.
