PUMPKIN SPLAT DEMO VER. 0.9 RELEASED!

I just got through I think all that's possible of the demo in its current state, and I have to say I love it so far! And I'm not just biased because of a certain pickle.

Quick points:
  • There's some typos and grammatical errors sprinkled throughout. There's some spelling things, too, like "Luscious" being written as "Lushious" in the one book title. Though that might've been intentional given the... rest of the title.
  • It's possible for Jackie to examine things even when he's not facing them. Like in the dance party room at the very beginning, if you're below the table but facing left or right, it'll still give a description of what's on the table. This isn't really a bad thing, but it's something to note!
  • The Bug You're Already Aware Of

AND FOR POSITIVITY, things I really liked!!!
  • Violet, as expected.
  • All of the artwork is charming and cute! Even the bloodsplatter. I muttered "wow, this is gorgeous" out loud in the windowed hallway.
  • Jackie's emotion bubbles are really adorable and I love them
  • Meanwhile, the sound design is good at being unnerving. Especially the mushy sounds of the jelly thing. It's very gross and off-putting, but in a good way.
  • SLUG PETTING

[RMXP] Side scroller??

There may be an easier way to do it, but what I've found works for me is setting a blank area in the tileset as impassible, then in either layer 2 or 3 of the map editor, laying that across the map so the character will move left and right but won't walk up and down.

Essentially, you wanna set your character on a rail! This is a quick visual representation with the impassible "bumper" tiles being the red lines. You can get fancier with it if need be.

Flatwoods

I just played through and got both endings and this was such a delight to play. The pixel graphics and sound design really add to the "child going on a self-appointed quest" type of story. I'm also stupidly excited that each of the trees gives a different reaction when you inspect them.

This was short but sweet and I can't wait to see what other games you'll make. And to echo everyone else, I'm absolutely amazed by your animation work!

You make solid stuff. You deserve everyone one of those 5K DLs.

Thanks for showing us some of the road you've traveled thus far. Best wishes.

Ahhh, that's very kind of you, thank you so much!

And I'll certainly try my best! I definitely didn't come all this way alone, as my frantic google searches for scripts and "why is this broken what did I do to this program" would show.

Träumerei

I just played through the demo. It's short but sweet, your sense of atmosphere is really nice and I love the look of the maps!

Some things I noticed:

•Noël's idle animation looks a bit awkward, but this was already mentioned. Honestly I think if you could possibly just slow it down a bit, it'd look better! From behind it looks like he's doing a little dance. Cute...

•I don't know if the fact you can take unlimited candies and pastries is intentional. If it is, I'm so happy. I'm 6 and I love silly things like that. Please imagine Noël running through the rest of the game carrying 99 candies and 99 macaroons.

•I'll admit I'm a dirty cheater and I had to look at the above Youtube video to get how you leave the first room which may be partially from the mapping and partially me being a big dumb. There's ways to make distinctions between what object Noël interacts with depending on what direction you face if you add a conditional branch to the event and set it, for example, that he can only interact with the bottom two bookshelves in his room when he's actually facing down. I think I just didn't realize the toy chest wasn't part of the bed though.

•You can keep checking the pantry after you get the water from it the first time. When you do, it erases the lighting of the map and also changes the font. It's a small thing but I noticed it so I thought I'd let you know! (You can also get infinite water this way)

•I got caught in a loop after using the scissors on the magpie. If you leave the balcony, you can't interact with anything unless you go back to the room and leave. I assume that's intentional so that you have to go back to Noël's room. But I didn't realize you're supposed to go to sleep, so I left his room and then I could check everything again. I tried entering the locked room and saw the message about checking on the magpie and was like ???. So I went back onto the balcony and there Mr. Magpie was again. I think I accidentally murdered that bird in cold blood three times before I realized I should probably not be doing that and I'm doing something wrong... (I know I'm getting long-winded but there should be ways to activate switches so that once you kill the magpie, the event won't reappear even when you enter and exit the room at the end)

•A really small thing: if you push X instead of confirming using the scissors on the magpie, the event will let you exit out and will also not erase the textbox image.

I KNOW... THAT SEEMS LIKE A LOT but I'm excited to see where you take this game and I'm really interested by what you've got so far! Keep it up and go for the gold!

Hey! I keep getting an error saying I'm missing RGSS104E.dll but I have RPG Maker VX, RPG Maker XP and the RTPs, but I'm still getting that error. Do you know how I can fix it?

That's very strange, I've never even heard of that error before! Here's the file so hopefully that'll fix that problem.

I've been trying to play this through and get all the pages but I'm stuck on the "Play" segment with the bears. I just get stuck in this room without any option that actually moves the plot forward.
What on earth am I doing wrong?

There's a "play" option that can be accessed from the menu...! (The PDF walkthrough may go into more detail)

I'm a noob T_Tv when it comes to rpg games.
I can't seem to make it work.
it says
Script 'Window_SaveFile'line 28:EOFError Occured
End of File reached

help?

Hmmmh, that's a weird one. If it happens on load up, delete any save data that may be in the folder and see if that clears it up. If not, I honestly... have no idea what could be causing that, I didn't even touch the save script for this one h-haha

I had an extremely great time playing this and you've gotten me really, really excited for upcoming games for this series. I added more videos on my Youtube gaming channel playing this game. I changed up my voice so that when they talk, they'd have different voices. If you ever get the chance, I'd love for you to check them out when you have the time. Of course, you aren't obligated to, but would mean very much. Thanks so much for this lovely game. I can't wait to voice them while playing in the future.

I'm still trying to process that I live in a world where people played a game I made and even went through the trouble of recording it and editing it (and providing voices...!)

Thank you so much! I'm really shy about watching other people play my stuff (I have no idea why, screenings in college never phased me), but I had to check this out!

Woah how did I miss this? I liked the first one!

To be fair, there isn't much to see as I'm still plodding away at this one. But I'm grateful for that and I hope you'll enjoy this one as well, whenever in the distant future I finish...

Meanwhile, in somewhere that is not Octavio's section....

When I click the down arrow key in game menu or make a choice then it crashed...have way to fix it?
btw, this game looks pretty nice :D

Hmmm, I haven't heard of that error happening before. Maybe somehow one of the files went missing during the download? Try checking the Audio -> SE folder of the game and make sure get.wav, select.mp3, beep-22.mp3, and Lamp Switch.mp3 are all in there. If not, download them from the links there and make sure to save them as those file names. If those are there, the problem may be you don't have the RMXP runtime file, which can be downloaded here.

If neither of those solve it, please let me know and I'll try to get to the bottom of it! (And thank you!!!)
