A small image for the homepage.
I found it sad the previous one was an unreadable screenshot of the worldmap.

And unrelated to scripts:
  • As long as I don't use more than 10 events, I can do anything with them, yes? Main point being is there a limit to the number of event pages? (oh no, my secret idea on making amazing levels is out!)

Event pages are not restricted in Lite at all and therefore you can go all in with these!

In fact, after the 17th page, you get a graphic glitch, which will render the event window nearly empty. :p

Move another window in front of it to restore the missing parts.
Of course, it won't affect the content of the window. So, don't scream of horror while witnessing your 17 events suddently all emptied.

Life Precious

This project is currently achieved at 70%.

I expect to release a french version in the coming month. After several bug corrections and other tweakings, I will release a final "international" (full of engrish probably) version, which will be available here.
Probably April 2013. :p

And... It is done.

Hmm...
You realize you used VX Ace and not the Lite edition?
I cannot open it with Lite, file format error, which might make this submission out-of-ruley. And you need the rtp to play it.

Given its shortness, you could easily remake it in Lite. And even expand on the concept, with custom routes, more enemies and original "get the out-of-reach key for the next room" situations. You could even create random succession of independent maps to make it more rogue-like.

BTW, create puzzles with Lite's limitations is the main point of the contest.
If you cannot adapt your engine to your design, then adapt your design to your engine.

Am I the only one getting a script error while trying to Show Picture in battle screens?
Yeah, pictures seem to be glitchy in this version. I got crashes trying to erase them from a map screen.

(Also sprites "lag behind" whenever you pan the screen. This version seems to be rather sloppy. :\)

RPG Maker Vx Lite craches with centered pictures.
You need to reset them in upper-left coordinates with "show picture x upper-left" before erasing it.

Best course of action:
Fadeout screen
Show picture 1 upperleft
erase picture 1

Savior - Will you save the world?

author=calunio
For some reason, my attack went to 1, the god killer skill doesn't work anymore, and I think it's keeping me from advancing in the game.

I find your lack of force... disturbing... :vader

I can't see where or when I could have set a change in player stats...
I even calibrated the battles so you could kill both NPC with common attacks. But, of course, with ATK set on 1...
Did you unequip your sword?..

Worst case scenario, you could still begin a new game again, with a different order in cycles.
Or use the walkthrough (in game directory or click on the pictures on this very page) to find the only way to save this world.
Believe me. Either way, you won't loose that much. :p

Savior - Will you save the world?

Ouatte ze feuque?!?

Wow.
If someone have told me I could be featured in a RPS article, I wouldn't have believed him (and probably trolled him plenty). That explains why my download counter jumped to 200 in a night.

That's nice, but I feel quite spoilt.
There are lots of other projects, far for more interesting and worthy of that kind of honor, than a small rushed project like this one.

At least, it will bring more audience to RMN. :)

SaviorScreenshot7FR.jpg

Thanks for your input! :)

I'm ok with all you said. I quite did an overkill with the broken floor tile, and the stone pillars aren't used as they should be.
But since it's a rushed project, changing anything post-release would be pointless. The point here was to make a game like a user without any RM experience would do.

That's why everything seems so blocky and out of place (look at the shadows on the background xD ). I tried to mimic a badly design game, with as little work as I could do while keeping it playable. The visual art is definetely the worst side of the game. :p

What makes a good dialogue? Part 3

It seems quite spot on, with good points made. :)

Except this maybe:
author=OP
2) Repetition weakens writing. Excessive swearing, going over subjects that the reader already knows about are routes to weakening your intent.

We're in games, not books. Players have a lot of stuff to do between dialogues, or even in dialogs, and might easily forget some important infos while abusing chicken or doing hookers for 3 hours.
Repetition is a good thing if it's spread over several dialogues, as long they're all different in execution. That's why we should always set a NPC somewhere which will repeat basically the same important infos to the player, just in case he's lost. Or use an efficient quest log... :p
Even long dialogs need repetition at the end, like "so, this is what we we'll do blablabla".

Another thing I would like to add to the pyramid of a good dialogue : Dialogues should be your last resort to convey information.
The best way to keep them short and meaningful is to use every other way to convey them.
For example, a throne room.
Usual stuff? Yes, but what about those settings:
- Small room with the king and some commoners
- Big room with the king alone
- Big room with guards on a packed front line and the king on a unreachable balcony
- Big room with guards close to the player and king up on some stairs with guards around him
Just by setting the NPCs differently in the available space, we convey different informations.
No need to say "the King is all and almighty" or "the king fears for his life" or "the king is close to his people". The player will feel that, just by entering the map.

Oh, and someone said a good dialog should either advance the story or develop the character. If your dialog doesn't do neither of those, there might be a problem to look into.

Scripts to play rpgmaker games with linux

Sorry, can't figure this out.

That's what I've done so far:
- Downloaded winetricks sh file
- Executed winetricks sh file
- Checked everything with d3d or dsound or direct in it
- Executed the three sh file from above
- Launched Drunken Paladin from the fake c:/ made by Wine
- Main window of RM appears, in black state
- Speaker icon goes red in the main menu bar
- Got a "program failed" wannabe dialogbox

Everything works fine (video ok, sound ok) with firefox.
