SBETHUNE81'S PROFILE

I don't have a growth mindset...yet.

Hello! I'm the 6th-8th grade math and science teacher at a small K-8 school in the Sierras. I recently moved to Oakhurst, California, about 30 minutes outside of Yosemite, with my wife and 16 month old son. Before that, I worked as a 5th grade teacher in San Jose. I love designing and playing video games and cooperative board games. My favorite parts of RPG making are writing and eventing. When I'm not doing that, I like to run, bike, and play volleyball. There is never enough volleyball.

Going about event triggered battles in RPG Maker

If you want a larger customization window, you can set variables to screen x and y instead of map x and y. This uses pixels as opposed to full tiles. This way you could have a battle trigger when an enemy is within 16 pixels in any direction, which would be half a tile away (32 pixels for a full tile). It doesn't add a whole lot of complexity for how much variability it gives you.

"waaaah! we want befuddle!" *makes event* ~nothing but crickets~

@pianotm - You can set the terrain tag of the lava tile. You could then check to see if the player is on that terrain tag at the end of the jump event. Send them back if they are. It's less efficient, but you could also have a parallel process event that checks the player's terrain tag and sends them back if they are on the lava tile. Either way will take 3 variables and no switches.

Manifest

The executable file is included in the .rar file. To upload everything that goes into a game as one file, it all needs to be zipped up (as a .rar in this case).

15,000!

Thanks for the kind words, EdgeOfChaos. Those aren't your first, and I've always appreciated your support.

Manifest

Playing the game aside, I highly recommend that you download winrar for general use, which is very similar to winzip except that it can extract both .zip and .rar files. You'll run into many .rar files, and probably already have. You can do a web search and find a free download for it, and like winzip, it has a free trial period. Hope you get a chance to play.

Manifest

Thanks for the interest in Manifest. You don't need the RTP to play it. Have fun and hope to hear back from you.

How much does gamepage CSS factor into your decision to read the details or download the game?

I was thinking it might have a significant impact. Seeing as how I am CSS illiterate, I am happy to hear, at least for you three, that it doesn't make a huge difference.

[Review Request]

Name: Canvas
Link: http://rpgmaker.net/games/5517/
Status: Demo
Genre: A puzzle RPG with action elements
Estimated length: ~4 hours without tackling optional content and sidequests.
Small description: In the midst of completing a job and evading their sworn enemies, the Knights of the Thorn, two thieves are presented with a bigger job. Much bigger...and far more noble than they would typically agree to.
Special requests: I'm actually less interested in a review than I am in getting confirmation that somebody out there has played through until the end of the demo. I'd love feedback as well, but that's secondary. Thanks for considering it.

Canvas

Ah, the feeling when someone else plays and gives feedback on your game. It never gets any less exciting.

Thank you for the kind words, CashmereCat. You're right, by the way. Eventing systems/puzzles and writing are my absolute favorite parts of making games. Of the systems in Canvas, I'm probably proudest of the elevation one. It's the foundation for all the others.

I've gone back and forth several times on including keybindings as part of the tools HUD. I might try adding them this weekend. I'll post a screenshot if I do.

Thank you again so much for trying out Canvas and providing feedback. Hope you get a chance to explore further.

[Release Something! Day XIII] Feedback Thread

@Liberty - Thank you very much for the feedback! It was a wonderful feeling seeing my name in your list above.

You learn more and more about how the two thieves tie in to the story she is telling as you progress. On the off chance you get the urge to find out, there is a walkthrough text file included in the download folder with a room-by-room breakdown. Thanks again for giving Canvas a shot.
