Hello! I'm the 6th-8th grade math and science teacher at a small K-8 school in the Sierras. I recently moved to Oakhurst, California, about 30 minutes outside of Yosemite, with my wife and 16 month old son. Before that, I worked as a 5th grade teacher in San Jose. I love designing and playing video games and cooperative board games. My favorite parts of RPG making are writing and eventing. When I'm not doing that, I like to run, bike, and play volleyball. There is never enough volleyball.

Thank you very much for the feedback. I'm thrilled you're giving it a go! You can use the Q and W keys or page up/page down to jump ahead or back in the glossary. Please feel free to ask any questions as you go, or just stop back in to give updates on your progress. Take your time and have fun!

Canvas

Glad you were able to continue on. The game definitely encourages experimentation with each new gadget/ability that you get. You will discover some pretty interesting combinations.

@koko10 - Thank you so much for taking the time to play all the way through Canvas. You are only the 2nd online person to confirm beating it, so it means that much more. Glad you liked it.

@EdgeOfChaos - Always good to hear from an old Manifest supporter. It would be great to have an LP of Canvas out there. I hope you like it enough to warrant one. It comes with a walkthrough in case you get stuck early on, and for what it's worth, I think it gets better as you go, gathering more tools/gadgets/abilities.

@Dyluck - Thank you for the clarification. That is strange. In all of my testing, watching various family members play through it, and of the feedback I've gotten from online players, I have never heard of that happening. I'm sorry for any frustration that issue might have caused you, and I hope you're able to continue on. In my first game, when people mentioned having one-off glitches like that, sometimes just re-downloading the exact same version of the game and going through the unzipping process again resolved the issue. Not sure why, but it often worked.

Thanks for playing, Dyluck! I appreciate the feedback. Are you saying the game crashes when entering or exiting the save screen? If not, I'm pretty sure the bug you're encountering is a combination of the moghunter weather script and the script that allows you to switch the lead character on the map scene. Every time you switch characters it refreshes the map. If it happens too often too quickly, the moghunter script takes issue. I decided the cost-benefit was worth it, and nobody has mentioned it yet, but if it happens more frequently in the future, I will probably remove the weather script. In the meantime, if you wait a few seconds between switching characters it shouldn't happen again (only in Grimwood). Sorry for the inconvenience.

I fully agree with you on the fighting being clumsy. It was an experiment to see what I could do with the engine through eventing. All attacks and abilities are pixel-based, only the movement isn't. I like to think it will grow on you =). Either that, or you'll get used to it. But hopefully you'll find the puzzles only get better as your available abilities and tools expand.

As far as the story goes, I needed time to pass in the story between the events in the cave and what happens next. There are two main reasons, which I don't want to spoil now, but I'll be happy to give you my rationale down the road. The motivation of not being ratted out to the Knights by the Mayor was my justification, however flimsy.

Thanks again for taking the time to play and leave feedback!

It's never a bother. You are playing my game, and I'm grateful for that. Some help below...

When the eye on his chest closes you'll need to attack both hands/arms until they go away. Then you can attack his eye again when it reopens.

Good luck! I'd love to hear back from you when you finish.

Canvas

My pleasure. Don't hesitate to ask if you need some guidance on the boss. Good luck!

Thanks for letting me know. Both the golem puzzle and the persuasion game are working?

Canvas

Thank you so much for playing, koko10! Congratulations on making it so far and beating the ruins.

In fixing a series of bugs a while back, it caused that transporting bug after the persuasion game. I have since fixed that and updated the download, but you must have downloaded a copy from earlier. If you copy your save files, redownload the game from this site, and paste the save files back in the new folder, it should be all cleared up. Please let me know if it isn't. I apologize for the inconvenience.

I'll give hints and explicit help below...

You'll first need to move the golem so you can get next to him. Then you will need to use a combination of 2 of your abilities to get rid of him.

If the hints don't help...
Use the lyre to force the golem back. Freeze the golem and then use Earth flux to smash him.

If you've already tried this, and it didn't work, this problem will also be cleared up by redownloading the game.

Please let me know if you need anything else at all. Thank you again for playing!

What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

Final Fantasy 5

[Review Request]

Name: Canvas
Link: https://rpgmaker.net/games/5517/
Status: Completed (recently)
Genre: Action/puzzle fantasy RPG
Estimated length: 15 hours
Small description: With this game, I've tried to stretch the engine (VX Ace) beyond what you might typically see done with events. Use an assortment of pixel-based attacks and abilities to dispatch your enemies, solve puzzles, and find plenty of secrets scattered across the world. There is a complete item guide and full walkthrough included in the download.
Special requests: As of now, the only review for this game is based on a demo (thank you aquatorrent!). This may be an unrealistic request, but now that the game is complete I would hope if someone decides to take on reviewing it, that he or she plays through the entire game before writing one. Thank you.
