Hello! I'm the 6th-8th grade math and science teacher at a small K-8 school in the Sierras. I recently moved to Oakhurst, California, about 30 minutes outside of Yosemite, with my wife and 16 month old son. Before that, I worked as a 5th grade teacher in San Jose. I love designing and playing video games and cooperative board games. My favorite parts of RPG making are writing and eventing. When I'm not doing that, I like to run, bike, and play volleyball. There is never enough volleyball.

Thank you very much. Glad I could help. I look forward to hearing back from you as you progress.

@mal - Thanks for picking up a copy of the full game! I can help you out with Peanut below...
When you hit him with your weapon it won't hurt him, but it will anger him. He'll pause for a moment giving you a chance to get some distance, and then he will run after you quickly. I recommend using the sprint shoes as your shared tool to keep away from him. After chasing you for a few seconds he will charge in the direction he was facing. When he hits the wall he will be stunned for a few seconds. You can get a couple of attacks in from behind where he is vulnerable, and then move away quickly. Repeat. He hits really hard, so you might need to heal often, or you can always change the combat difficulty which will cut his HP and his attack in half. Don't worry so much about getting hit by the flame spurts as their damage is minimal compared to a hit from Peanut.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if you need additional help with him or at any other point. Thanks again for playing.

@aquatorrent - A hint for the Evermeadow is that every single tool, character specific and shared (maybe with the exception of the map), will be used directly for puzzle solving at some point. It's an optional location, so I don't want to spoil it. It's one of my favorite puzzles in the game.

@bicfarmer - Hope you get a chance to play the full version. If you do find yourself stuck again, the walkthrough should help, and I can help out if it doesn't. Thanks for the interest and the kind words.

Canvas Review

Thank you very much for the thorough review. I enjoyed reading it. If it helps to ease your curiosity, there are treasures throughout the demo that aren't attainable until you get other tools/gadgets. I put them there to entice players to come back for the full version (coming very soon), and I apologize if they frustrate some players.

The character is set to the default normal speed, and I know some players will consider it too slow, but I am reserving the ability to dash for later for puzzle solving purposes.

The only dungeon of the 4 that you would potentially have to walk back through is the third one. You can use the item you get after that boss to "teleport" right out though. The other 3 you exit right from the boss room.

There are two types of levers - one that stays flipped and one that flips back after some amount of time.

Hope this clears some of the issues up. Thank you again for taking the time to play Canvas and post a review!

Thanks for playing all the way through the demo and leaving feedback! The full game will release very soon. If you'd like any hints on solving the Evermeadow or other puzzles, please let me know.

Great progress! You're doing the right thing in C7, but the map has an error. Not knowing how many people would make it there, and with a full release coming very soon, I opted to include a small file fix rather than reupload a new folder. If you go to my locker you can download the specific map data and replace your copy in the data/maps folder. Let me know if you need more help with that. As far as mining goes, first choose any 3 spots to place nodes. The number it tells you is how many combined spaces the nodes are from the ore. For example, if it says 7, it might mean that one node is 3 spaces away and the other two nodes are each 2 spaces away(3+2+2). You would try and find all the spots that are a total of 7 spaces away from the nodes in my example. If the ore is next to a node it is 1 space away from that node. If it shares the spot it is 0 spaces away. At this point there might be several spots that would work, so you get a fourth and final node to try and narrow it down to the exact location. Hope this helps.

Hi aquatorrent,
Thanks for giving Canvas a try! Were you able to continue on from where you were with the walkthrough? Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks again.

Thanks for the feedback, kalledemos. I must admit, I added the script that changes battle difficulty at the tail-end of development as an afterthought. I was hoping it might appeal to those who found the battles too hard, but I didn't test it much. Did you fight the same set of enemies twice, once on one level and once on another?

The gloves don't actually increase the chance of a successful steal, only the chances of getting an item rather than Etherum when you do pull one off. It sounds like you're right about the bad luck in landing the steal.

Glad to hear you're having fun. It always makes my day to hear that. I hope to hear back from you again as you progress. Thanks again for playing.

So what's your favorite book?

1. The Once and Future King/Book of Merlyn by T.H. White

2. East of Eden by John Steinbeck

3. Wholeheartedly agree with the OP on The Prydain Chronicles by Lloyd Alexander. They hold up well through adulthood.

Hi norman,
Thanks for playing Canvas. When I upload the full game this summer it will have that map fixed. In the meantime, you can go to my locker and download the map144.rvdata2 file. Put it in the data folder and replace the old one. Good luck and have fun! Thanks again.
