Played around with Construct 2. Wonder if I could make a metroidvania game with it someday.

Game Maker is pretty code-intensive. Haven't tried Construct 2, so I wouldn't know.
Is it? I thought it was mostly prewritten commands (move left, change sprite, etc). But, I haven't used it in years, so I don't know for sure.
A Metroidvania would be a lot of fun but super tricky to do level design for! I'd like to do one someday... I played the new Momodora over the weekend and it was really good so now I'm feelin' it :D

I'm not really convinced the website itself would benefit from a constant chat stream ala FB or Twitch.

I see, but from my perspective that seems like 10% of what happens.
Oh no, a lot of chat on IRC or Slack or wherever is just goofy chatter or people losing their minds over something, but once in a while you make friends with another gamedev and maybe one day that relationship blossoms into a beautiful game!
I find Slack incredibly useful for sharing images and files and things, or for starting quick private conversations between a few people. The fact that I already use it for work and such makes it even more convenient (I have 4 slack channels I'm in right now, and I imagine I'll join more when I work on more team-based game projects). IRC isn't terrible but it is a bit cumbersome to learn.
So yay Slack!

YUP I KNOW THAT FEELING
Sometimes it's really nice to just be with someone, y'know! Other people are nice and warm and being alone for too long is depressing. But, I've been in a couple of relationships with someone I didn't really connect with, who I didn't feel comfortable talking to about important stuff, or things I was passionate about, and it's difficult! It's tiring. I don't think you have to share every aspect of your life, but it's rough without at least some connection.
BUT SOMETIMES BEING ALONE SUCKS TOO
