Status Update 1: Completionist Run

Thank you so much for your support, everyone!

author=TungerManU
Yeah, best of luck if you decide to go commercial! I initially didn't know how to feel about this since money is very tight for me, but I decided that of all the commercial games, if you decide to go that route, Bossgame is the one game I'd buy.

Thank you! I don't plan on making it too expensive, and I will have a demo or free version of some kind!

Everyone seems to be getting more and more interested in creating commercial games lately. I've only been on RMN for a little over 2 years, and I'm already starting to feel like a relic from the past with my scepticism towards commercial RM games. Sigh...

I know what you mean. I've been here for probably 8 years now, and I've been making games for at least 8 years. It's been a lot of fun and I plan on continuing for the rest of my life. Right now, I work full-time, which means the only gamedev time I have is weekends and a couple hours in the morning. If I make some money off my games, it means I can pay off my student loans and save up some cash so I can possibly take a break and do contract work for a while, which means I can spend more time making games, which I would love! And it means more games for everyone else :)

Indie games are never going to be a path to riches (outside of rare & unpredictable outliers) but it'd be nice if they could help us out a bit. I think RM games can be powerful and stick out enough to be worth a few bucks, and I hope BOSSGAME is one of those games :D

But regardless, I want to continue supporting you and your games in any way I can. And I'd still really like to be a tester for BOSSGAME, if you'll allow me.

Thanks! I may have some open testing before the game is released, and I'll keep you in mind for future tests! Right now I'm keeping it kind of close to the chest, haha :D

Yeah, I know what it's like to work on a game for over a year now. Soul Sunder was made in a year and a half, and PotF is reaching that length. It can really burn you out, but the finished product is totally worth it!

Good luck with the game, man! Can't wait to see it in action!

It's tiring, right? Haha. I'm enjoying myself but I'm so looking forward to the next project, too. I have so many ideas lined up... agh! Thank you for the kind words :)

There are no mobs to fight. Only bosses. And that's a scary thought.

Exactly! Is it because I respect you as a player, and trust you to handle the most exciting challenges?

Or is because I enjoy seeing the tears as they streak your face and fall to the ground?

Who knows!

BOSSGAME

So how is BOSSGAME coming along? I noticed the target completion date has already passed, so I thought maybe I should ask how progress has been lately. It's not that I want to come across as impatient or anything, but... No, scratch that. I'm totally being impatient. I'm just so excited for this game, and I really want to play it soon.

Things are coming along pretty well! I was probably overzealous with my estimate at first... I actually forgot I had set one ;__;

Sorry I've been so quiet. I'll post an actual update devlog soon!

MERCURYYYYYYYYY AQUAAAAAAAAAAAAAA MIRAAAAAAAJUUU

I was gonna say, Mercury was my favorite when I was kid too! She had cool hair and I just really like blue, I guess :P

Ex-Religion People of RMN - What did you leave, Why did you leave, and how has it affected you?

^ I love you slash.

aww ;__; ty!

Faith Alone is nice but it's a little rough, haha. I like God Song a lot, myself!

Lunatics with guns, domestic terrorists and homophobia...

Like I said, we need legislation that obeys the spirit of the Second Amendment. Legal responsibility goes both ways. Yeah, as American's we have the right to own guns, even assault rifles and automatics, but the government also has the right to expect us to demonstrate that we are capable of handling those weapons responsibly, and frankly, thanks to organizations like the NRA, any lunatic can buy a gun without having to do that.

The Constitution is a living document that is meant to be amended when the population demands it - and was designed with a system in place for those amendments. Thank god for it, because so much has changed in the last 200+ years that there's we could never make set of rules that would be sensible until the end of time. Just take a look at the Bible, eh?

Either way, the Constitution in no way guarantees that people can freely buy or own whatever kind of armaments they want. We already have some reasonable restrictions (turns out you can't just legally go out and buy Stinger missiles) but we probably need to update our specific restrictions to match with the changes in society. People may very soon be capable of manufacturing their own guns and ammo with incredible ease - legally or illegally - and we'll need to find a way to address these if we want to maintain any sort of pretense of control.

Ex-Religion People of RMN - What did you leave, Why did you leave, and how has it affected you?

But I feel a lot of religious people are severely mentally ill, and should go see a doctor. Thinking you get some kind of reward after your dead, is, i'm sorry, but are you sure???? really?????

Ah, I totally disagree. In no way can I judge people for holding out hope for a happy afterlife. When people have to put up with the stresses and dangers of every day life, it seems incredibly natural to hope for something better, even if it's unrealistic or absolutely fantastical. Faith can help pull people through tough situations and create optimism where pessimism would fail - which means that belief in something unreal can improve something real. I'd argue that a healthy indulgence in unbelievable things is part of the reason we play video games, and that it can be very good for us.

I don't agree with people using that faith to justify horrible things. Still, I hardly blame anyone for leaning on it to keep going. Maybe we wouldn't need faith in a perfect world, but that's not the world we live in!

Lunatics with guns, domestic terrorists and homophobia...

Oh good, the CEO of Stardock is shitposting on facebook about how he needs to buy silencers for his sons' SIG Sauers.
