now I'm curious as to what happened.

some kiddo started signing up with hundreds of fake names and spamming PMs & the general chat :P

“Introducing New Oreo Thins,” the cookie that nobody wanted

This is like going to Chipotle with the intention of counting calories.

You just don't.

If you get a burrito bowl with pinto beans, veggies instead of rice, meat, cheese, and any salsa but the corn one, it's only ~420 calories, and it's still super delicious!

(The tortilla alone is 300!)

What does RMN even STAND FOR?

They've p. much always been required for creative work; we're actually in a super great time, since it's so much cheaper and easier than ever before for a small-time nobody to get their work in front of a lot of eyeballs.

Yea, you're right for sure. I was thinking of, like, the gold rush of the indie game scene that hit in 2008 or so, I think. But yea, we definitely have a lot of good tools to talk to lots of people at once, now.

I have no idea how to draw interest though, hah. I guess it just makes sense to talk and ramble about all the things you think about while making stuff and what makes your game unique? Like, passion? IDK! That's what I like from other devs :P I like reading about their thought process and human side and how geeked they are about the stuff they make. And then like, posting on reddit can be nerve-wracking 'cuz they can be rough sometimes, and also there's like, what if you want to preserve a bit of anonymity... it's tricky! It feels so much like luck ;__;

I guess it's all part of the learning process, but it can definitely be a bit overwhelming.

What are you thinking about right now?

my coworker gave me a j once but all I had was consonants so I couldn't do anything at all

I don't have any figurines, but I do have a life-size scissor blade I use for cosplay, a few wigs, and a buuuuuuuunch of art books.

AND THIS LITTLE DUDE

Looking at some elaborate damage formulas for other peoples' games, and I'm p. much just using the ol' "atk minus def" (´・ω・`)

The biggest benefit of the D20 system is the tactile goodness of rolling a big goofy die and hoping for a huge number. Tying up your actions with that much RNG is typically not a whole lot of fun in a virtual system :P

Double damage but only on Tuesdays

Somebody please do this :D

I suddenly just got really nostalgic for Pokemon Gold and how you could only find certain items or shopkeepers on like, Wednesday nights. I remember sneaking away with my game boy at the right time to find secret stuff :P

It's good to know the dev blog is a good idea, haha :) It's fun and a good self-motivator for me, too. Splitting your personal/unprofessional blogging from your marketing/devblogging seems like a good idea as well.

It is kind of a bummer - networking and marketing require a decent investment of time, but are becoming ever more necessary for indie developers who want their games seen. It can feel really bad to spend free time just trying to hock your game to people when you could be working on your game. But, on the flip side, people are busy! You can't hope someone will just happen upon your game and see it for the masterpiece it is, you gotta hustle it a little bit.

Somehow when I made Résumé, it ended up on a free indie game blog, and from there it ended up getting Let's Played and reviewed in other places. I have no idea how it happened (looking back, I should've asked). I tweeted about it a couple times (to my 100 followers) and sent one e-mail out to a writer I knew liked those kinds of games, but he wasn't the one that featured it... I have no idea. Also notably, most of the reviewers or Let's Players actually told me they were writing about it, I found out secondhand. I'm not complaining, but it was a huge surprise!

EDIT: I definitely don't see the point in picking just one social media platform, except for sheer lack of time. And the Twitter userbase can definitely be just as bad as Tumblr's.

"Selling out" is a silly idea, anyway. If you're trying to make money from your game, that's a totally okay thing! If you just want to show off something you worked on and you're proud of, that's totally cool, too!

Still tho, IDK how I'd even tag something on tumblr. RPG? Indie game? Superhard game? I guess there's some research to do. I think starting a dev blog might be a good idea, too... maybe it's just cuz I'm a dev, but I love reading about the experiences of other people as they make games :)

Someone Let's Played my game. I'm terrified of watching it.

Hahaha, I know that feeling. It's exciting and terrifying :P but hey, at least they thought it was interesting enough to record and show off!

Your magic, all to me.

For some reason that pic was already in my locker!
