How do you go about creating a game?

I highly suggest paper-prototyping any idea you possibly can before you start writing code, eventing, scripting, or databasing it! This includes battles, skills, bosses, maps, items... You'll see things that won't work right away - and figure out how to make them work - without having to spend a bunch of time on extra effort that won't make the cut!

So where are the Tactics RPGs?

Like piano & craze have said, tactics games seem like a lot work. You have at least as many complex systems as RPGs, but no standard & well-supported engine like RPG Maker to back you up. That - along with the fact that they're more niche than RPGs - is probably the reason that we don't see too many.

Jumping off what Craze has said, tactics games have kind of lackluster gameplay, IMO. The FF Tactics games, along with the Fire Emblem series, are fun, but they do get pretty long and grindy after a while, and fights can be brutally long.

I would love to see more mini-tactics games, and especially on mobile devices. I think the medium works well for it. They're turn-based, so the limited controls are much less of a problem - in fact, selecting a character and an action is pretty easy with just touches! I'd love to see some speed-tactics games. Maybe something like Binding of Isaac, but where each enemy room is, say, a 3v3 mini-tactics game that takes 30-60 seconds tops.

Yup yup! I believe it. I don't think I've worked on a game where I didn't have to fight off overscoping :P

From your blog it sounds like WAUTAH is coming along pretty well, too :) I'm glad! I still haven't had a chance to play LA yet, but hopefully I can sneak it in there before your next game comes out, haha.

Yeah, having played what you shared earlier, I have to say, just having the characters interact and be themselves while we fight some bosses is all I need ^_^ (Love the characters!)

Ahhh, thank you so much :)

I'm really trying to keep that in mind! It's super hard to resist the call to make everything big and epic and perfect.

Make the plot "Two characters want to get married and the other two just want a vacation but they're such renowned awesome people that the Guild of Boss Characters challenges them and won't let them marry/vacation until all of the bosses have been beaten!"

Hehehe, I really should :D

Honestly, for a while I was really determined to have a very *serious* *thematic* plot, but I'm not really sure why - it's not really the point of the game, haha. I just want the boss fights to be fun and the characters to be interesting and fun :D The more I think about it, I'd rather just go back to my original plan of a simple theme & simple plot that just gives the characters a chance to be themselves. I just gotta... get on it.

Honestly, my original-and-once-again-plan is pretty close to your suggestion ;) I think you'll dig it! Once I actually... write it out...

"I've been working on this game for nearly a year and I still haven't decided on a title or a plot"

I mean, the game is about fightin' bosses but I feel like I should probably start chipping away at the other stuff...

that's why there is a push to normalize it; that way homo-relationships can be viewed as mundane and boring and unfulfulling as hetero-relationships.

Bingo! Ideally it would be mostly-boring minutiae.

Kentona, have I told you how much I like your avatar? I like it. It's good.

Haha, it's definitely true that most of the "non-traditional" relationships are handled poorly in most media. It's nearly always about the sex, which is so often only a small part of relationships. I imagine this is a mix of lazy writing and - maybe - assuming the audience won't get anything more complex.

Hell, most relationships are treated this way - we're so often raised to think that sex is end-all be-all of human existence. It's a shame that movies and shows so often end right when a relationship starts, after the couple has had sex, or something like that. I wanna see more stuff about people who have been dating for years and years! How is that supposed to work, anyway?

(All this said, I've seen more and more improvements in this recently, so either I've gotten better taste or people have started writing better stuff! I like it, anyway.)

"WAX YOUR PAUNCH AT MY BEHEST" - the devil, 2016

Nah, sex can get as old and boring as anything else after awhile. Sometimes you'd rather just, like, go see a good movie.
