Illustrator with a weird obsession with RPG style games, specifically SNES style RPGS or PlayStation style RPG's. If it wasn't for DND, there wouldn't be any of them!!! A lot of my games and the like, are Final Fantasy inspired, though I do draw experience from playing other games, and just life in general. I go by thedarkdreamer and ZENWARE. Though my main profession is in illustration, I have gotten very high GPA both in high school and art college. I was going for the style and works of higher children's books or comic books, though I haven't made a lot of progress with that because of...
life. There I said it.
I have also published two books, The Dogs of Narberth, and The Rescue Pups, and a third book is coming out soon. I do write.
I have only "officially" made two games but they weren't great. I have been working on Twisted Fate for a long time though. I don't know why I'm stuck on this. I guess because 'that' was 'really' my ACTUAL first "game". But life.

I must be partially crazy!! So many projects. (A lot of repetition as well)...
In terms of...the projects, I still float between old games that other people did, and now looking back on things I previously did. I'm doing a bunch at once, though I feel like I do one for a bit then go to another one, then that same kinda thing happens. Though now, I'm trying to do FINAL FATE (which is an old one), The Adventures of Dyluck (aka me hahah), and an obscure one based off a game I was doing called IN DREAMS I "CRESCENDO", based off "THE DARK DREAMERS". I basically set myself up for one, then I get tired or distracted and head onto another one. I hate this really.

[RMVX ACE] [RMVX] Vocab EnemyRecovery Text Problem

I'm a frequent poster here. Hey look. A wall poster. LOL

I'm making a game in RPG Maker VX Ace from a comic I was doing back in high school. Though I am running into a strange problem maybe someone could help me out.

Normally everytime an enemy casts HP or MP recovery in battle, it would say something like "Slime recovers 50 HP!" Though that isn't the problem. The problem is that in battle, my game would say "Slime recovers HP 50!" The vocab is reversed(?) or something. Under the "#Results for Actions on Enemies", under "EnemyRecovery" it equals "%s recovers %s %s!" Though not sure why it's confusing two terms here.

It's a small weird detail and I can't fix it. Help?

The Curse of the Writers Block??

I dunno if anyone has this problem I'm having in terms of making games or not, but whatever here goes:

I'll start making a game, and then I'll get a decent amount of progress, then I start to get stuck on things I want to do or get done. Though I don't seem to finish a fleshed out whole game. I have made short games, but not 'a' full length, quasi serious, or serious game. I do have ASD but I dunno if it's that has anything to do with that. Then I'll go and make another, and the same thing keeps happening.

To me it sounds like writer's block in a way. Meh??

[RM2K3] [RM2K] Offline Character Generator

'Lo again. I am looking for a character generator for RPG Maker 2000 and 2003 that is OFFLINE, way back when I was in middleschool, I found one and I still have pics of what I was doing then in old projects - old charactersets I did! [RM2K3] [RM2K] Edits or new Monster Sprites???

I dunno if this is another redundant question but I guess I don't really care at this point. Whatever.

I am an image editor/actual illustrator, and I've worked with photoshop for a long time, though I'm kind of wondering if there are any other pages like VIRPG out there, mostly for monster resources, though (NOT) from other SNES games or the alike, I'm not really looking for too many rips from other games, more 'original sprites' per say or at least decent edits:

This site is so good! I found a bunch of incredible resources on here. Though I wonder if there are any other edits of RM2k or RM2k3 monster resources floating around the web? I did find someone's (edits) of RM2k sprites that were also pretty good. I'm trying to look for graphics in the same style as the RM2k just to make some of my games feel less RTPish, or at least trying to add more nuance to the RTP to make the games really sing. Just RTP is not enough to me. Just kind of curious if there's any other resources around. I hope I'm not wasting anyone's time. ;_;

[RM2K3] [RM2K] Message involving displaying stats on leveling up

This kinda sounds like a (kind of) complex topic to do with conditional branches, at least that is what I think this may involve.

When a character levels up, how would I able to show that their stats have increased? I know that: this may involve conditional branching, variables, and a (possibly long) common event.
Though not sure how to do this, and I feel like it's going to be a LONG event, considering I'm the guy who adds 29 characters to a game. :/

Any help will do. I have figured out how to do a full heal after battle in RM2k involving a common event and a switch without putting it in line in a normal event, so pretty sure I can handle it. Time to solve a Scooby doo mystery.

I want to know and play, what's out as of now that's at least a decent rpg maker game? I have played a couple things like Legion Saga, Valera, Onyx, Onyx2, though looking through a vat of games is kinda challenging ish. Where does one begin this giant troth of games? I'm not a witch lol I dunno where to even begin.

Suggestions? I have ideas for my own games but now my brain is starting to eat me alive since I'm also living me ordinary life. Give game. Want to play. Though if it is less than 2 stars I will find it VERY questionable. Kinda like Triax. Egh. There were interesting things then...a bosses name was ASSGORGE. Ok really. I even tried correcting the game myself but it still felt MEH. 0_0 Thanks artschool, for giving me a critical mindset of pretty much even any game. Anything.

[RM2K3] [RM2K] Enemy switching unto another with a repeating event issue. ARGH.

Ok. So in my game, Danny and his party encounters an Umbra Sorcerer who has the element of darkness (previously thought to work for Vladimir - the main villain of the game), though the Umbra Sorcerer is just predominantly power driven, who eventually turns himself into a Hydra during battle.

So here is the 'problem'. I have two enemies in the battle troop, the Umbra Sorcerer, and the Umbra Hydora. Before the battle even starts, on the zeroth turn, a switch turns on for a full heal right after battle.

Yes, it's actually really easy to make a full heal after battle in RPG Maker 2000 without scripting.

So in an event page, I make him say "I refuse to go down so easily! Behold the power of the emeralds and what they are capable of!" The event flashes four times, then the sound Black Dragon.wav plays. The enemy "Umbra Hydora" has an enemy encounter appearance, and I made the Umbra Sorcerer's HP minus 99999 twice, allowing a knockout, and the Umbra Hydora's HP heal by 99999, then waits for two seconds, turning on a switch "Sorcerer to Dragon". This event has also has a condition where from the 0%-50% range, this page executes the event.

The event goes on to the switched page where the Sorcerer to Dragon event is turned on, also with a condition of the Umbra Sorcerer's HP is 0%. This entire page is blank.

Though when I keep test battling this, even when the Umbra Sorcerer perishes and the Umbra Hydora appears in battle, the damn event keeps going back to the event where the Umbra Sorcerer is replaced with the Umbra Hydora. It just keeps doing it over and over and it doesn't switch over to the other page I made. I can't figure out how to make it just do that page once, and keep that event from repeating. Wtf.

[RM2K3] [RM2K] More Skills "Failure" Messages during battles

I dunno why no one responds to anything I post. It's like I'm a ghost or something. Cast Thunder1!!!

I posted this a while ago but I'm trying to get more battle strings for failure messages in RPG Maker 2000 or 2003. It would be kind of nice so it could say failures for maxing out status buffs, debuffs, multiple states, and everything else. This was actually 'done' in Everlong since the creator was able to implement a "MISS" or a "FAIL" message in RM2k3. How did he do it? I think I noticed he used some weird IPS files in his file directory. RPG Maker 2000 Value, etc, only has three options and I dunno if you can get 'more'. This is a writer's nightmare it is, and it's so limiting! I've seen so many games and the alike that I can't figure out why people just type "Alex dodges", or "Alex failed", or that sort of thing. Any pointers?

[RM2K3] [RM2K] How do I make a doppelganger with the same stats as the hero?

So, I am updating kind of an old game just for fun, and I have kinda an interesting idea that I'm trying to figure out how RM2k or RM2k3 can do

In the game, I'm making a 'recurring character' that is a negative double of the main hero, named NEGA DANNY, which is a different color palette of Alex! Though I have an idea. Each battle you get into with NEGA DANNY, he would have the same stats as the main character, except Danny's holy spells are inverted to dark spells, though HP and MP levels are very much higher than the rest of NEGA DANNY's stats. I want NEGA DANNY to have the same stats as the main hero even as he levels up, whether he is level 20, 30, vice versa. Would I able to do this with variables? Though variables don't really seem to 'want' to plug-in to a monster's stats-via it is RPG Maker 2000 and 2003, don't know how that would work.

There is a control option for setting a variable as the same stat as an enemies' attack, but I think that would work more like a scan spell for identifying things like HP levels and 'checking stats' - Dunno how to figure out this problem where stats would replace over into an enemies stats...

[RM2K3] [RM2K] More Technical Skills "Failure" Messages during battles

So, I dunno if anyone even uses RPG Maker 2000 anymore. Whatever. I still have questions for 2000's...use. I guess?

This is sort of a technical question and from a background in writing, but RPG Maker 2k has only 3 slots for Special Skill failure messages:



Is there a patch or something that I can get more of those types of messages? What I'm getting at is this, better messages for status inflicting magic and whatnot. I guess examples could be:

Dyluck casts Envenom! Green Slime resists the magical spell!
Dyluck casts Sleep! Green Slime has been put to sleep.
Dyluck casts Cure! Dyluck's HP's are maxed out!
Dyluck casts Vivify! Genna remains unaffected.
Killer Bee releases the Poisonous Pollen! Dyluck shakes off the dust!

RPG Maker only lets you use a couple of messages. In terms of writing that's kinda like a writer's block and a total lack of development. I don't really know how DynPlugins work (the coding part), but DynPlugins are more for RM2k3 and not RPG Maker 2000. Remember, I have bought the VALUE version, the more updated version. Any pointers? I feel like half my questions are either A) not possible, B) nobody actually cares, C) you're outdated.

Even Dragon Quest and Earthbound have had multiple different messages for IN battle. Even for death states, there's multiple messages for death states, at least in Earthbound.

I feel so old! I'm only 34! (It was recently my birthday)
