Hype and how it affects you

catmitts
truth

Looking gross to other game-make-people aside once you start hyping a project you kinda light a fuse at the end of which your potential audience forgets/stops caring about your "in-development" project, finds something else to occupy their attention, etc. Hyping your game before it's almost done or even before it's playable is the kiss of death.

The only downside to not hyping anything is that I guess some people might think you suck/are not capable of making good stuff just because you don't surf into every post on a wave of reputation built up with screenshots and character bios but who cares that kind of thinking is majorly fucked anyway

Some SERIOUS thoughts on my art and its future...

post=131099
Anyway, one way I've thought of further developing my art is by establishing a web comic. Why, you may ask? Well, as someone I've heard say put it, making and keeping up with a scheduled web comic helps to not only improve one's art but also keeps oneself on a disciplined schedule for producing work. I've seriously thought about taking this route...

this is a good idea if you can stick with it

The only thing that stands in my way is money, or, perhaps, maybe stands in my way. So I ask, if any of you knowledgable gents/ladies may be aware of...

How much would it cost per month/year/whatever to have a website where I could post a web comic? ...If it, by chance, costs anything at all. Also...

You're looking at $10/year tops for a domain name and probably about $5/month for enough hosting to start, the best way to save money here is to kiss up to a friend with webspace and just register the domain.

I'm not going to start this until I have use of wacom tablet so I can illustrate things straight onto my computer (believe me, if you've ever tried scanning an image and coloring and fixing it up with all those annoying, extremely similar but not exactly the same colors of white and whatnot, you know how much of a pain in the ass it is). Anyway, the question is, what size tablet would you folks recommend? and what is the general price for one?

I haven't bought a tablet in years so I won't be too helpful on models/prices, but I would honestly recommend a smaller one, around 6x9. My current tablet is a 15" LCD tablet screen and while being able to draw on the screen is occasionally handy it's just a bit big. It's pretty nice to be able to make nice little curves on a smaller tablet that scale up to larger, sweeping curves on your screen, and being able to stick it in your lap and comfortably use it is a major plus

Strange error rm2003

Assertion failures (I'm guessing RM2k3 is written in VC++) accompanied with filenames like this typically pop up when trying to read from a file that doesn't exist or trying to read from a location that doesn't exist from within a file that does. The fact that you don't get it until you move up past a certain point makes it a little trickier to troubleshoot though.

I am drawing this from more general experience rather than any particular expertise in RM (because I have none) so take this with a grain of salt but based on what you're saying it sounds to me like something's wrong with the project definition files/database/whatever you use to refer to outside resource files, which is causing RM to include default resources that don't exist within your project, which in turn is causing RM to try to stream data from an empty .pas file at a location based on the player's coordinates and you are underflowing the file bounds by moving up past that point causing it to spit out an assertion failure as the file pointer moves to an invalid location and RM attempts to read from it

tl;dr try putting everything into a new project

Ghost Effect Shader - Shader Model 2.0

I was just expecting some lame motion blur but this is much cooler :p Just some minor occlusion artifacts that off the top of my head might be cleared up by depth sorting the "ghost"'s polys before rendering

What was the last thing you bought at the time of your reading this?

There's a name for this, and it's Asberger's.
"spergin" in my previous post was actually an abbreviated reference to behaviors associated with Asperger's Syndrome :D but I'm certain that what accounted for most of it at school wasn't an actual "syndrome" so much as social ineptitude or whatever social aptitude they have being overwhelmed by a desire to relate to others expressed in terms that actually did the opposite. Sometimes we all have to stop ourselves from doing it :p "normal" behavior is an exercise for us all.

high school students consume hideous amounts of shit like natty ice which is even worse than PBR which, while a staple, is still pretty bad.
Natty Ice and Steel Reserve are pretty damn cheap, but the worst we could get was Stroh's. There is nothing like a warm can of Stroh's, freshly pulled out of some crevice hidden from the prying eyes of a friend's incredibly strict parents. That said, nobody ever turned it down even though it tasted like "aluminum can in a can"

ps if anyone is actually puzzled about why the word "snob" has negative connotations then I point you to: a dictionary

edit: also yeah Elephant was horrible, how can you presumably go through the public school system and have so little insight into the subject matter it is a mystery! Also mail order semi-auto rifles = L O L. Buy 5, get 50% off your next purchase of anthrax!
