Yeah, usually if we need someone we'll either contact people we know or post in the status feeds (visible on the community page). One reason why the community page is better than the straight forum page, imo. ^.^

Wow, yeah, I see! I've just been using the straight forum page all this time! Haha, you learn something new every day ^_^

Most of the time if we need another judge we post in the status - which I did do this time. Then was recommended Gourd and he jumped on board. So, yeah, it depends. If it's someone's own event idea - like with the Pokemon one - we just keep an eye out and help set-up.

But I'll personally make a note of your readiness and if we need another judge on another 'staff' event I've your name. Newness isn't a major detriment, and seeing you around helps a lot too. ^.^

Thanks a lot! :D I'm going to be sounding like a newbie again, but you mentioned "post in the status." Is that the "Status History" link in the community tab? I feel silly as I totally haven't been keeping up with that, but if event-related posts are there, then I'll definitely keep an eye out from now on.

This is an excellent idea; the judges already have a huge task ahead of them, so letting the rest of the community do their part and help out is the way to go, in my opinion. I've already played most of the games (though not all of them to completion yet) so I'd like to be the first to try for this new badge; expect a post from me on that soon ;) If I'm not able to play all the games in time, I'll still release all my notes.

Also, is there a place to volunteer for things like being a judge or other stuff? I may be jumping the gun since I'm still a newbie here and I'm not sure what qualifications I'd need to fulfill for such a position, but if you all need judges for future events or anything, I'd be happy to volunteer.

Redone Demo Progressing Smoothly

Thanks so much! :D There's also another, bigger tree type in that same style that surrounds the castle. ^_^

New mechanic, new dungeon, more length. Fun fun fun!

This sounds exciting! I'd have to play it myself to see, but these sound like they'll make Purgatory that much more fun (in a scary way :D )!

I don't know about you all, but a Female Squall for FF8 would have been cool.

Whoa, yeah! That's awesome and extremely cute! :3

What makes you want to play one game over another?

Screenshots showing dialogue that's fun to read.

...I totally don't have any of this in my gamepage screenshots. Damn, that's a good point. I better remedy that.

For me, personally, in no particular order:

-Some evidence that the developer has the drive to carry the project through. Having previously completed games under their belt is a definite plus. If this is your first project, having at least a demo up with some varied screenshots is definitely a must.

-A game description that's not walls and walls of text. Or, at the very least, a quick paragraph that gives me the overall feel of the game before the walls and walls of text. A huge turn-off is finding that the first text on the gamepage is an elaborate and boring rundown of the setting that goes on and on and on.

-The bullet-points of unique features are always helpful, to me at least.

-Even though I believe you can create a stellar game with just the RTP resources, I must admit that I'm drawn to custom resources and pretty art :D

-I'm a huge fan of interesting or fun characters in a game, so I always look for any sort of cast list when I see a gamepage.

Do RPGs need a story?

Notice how the guy with the controller doesn't care about dialog. The guy without a controller should have his hands on an open book. Your motivation should be 'this game is fun and this is my entertainment.' While reading may be fun to a lot of people, there are different mediums that focus on reading. Like books. All without that pesky combat getting in the way.

Or, better yet, he should be playing the game himself. Games can tell stories in fascinating ways that differ wildly from the experience that you'll get from literature.

A Very Long Rope to the Top of the Sky Review

Thanks very much! Glad you enjoyed it, and I hope you enjoy the game as well :D

Final Quest - The disciple's journey Review

A terrific review for a terrific game! Very well put!

This game was for the RPG Maker Venture contest, so RTP characters were a requirement, and I thought it was really creative and neat that they used an aged Ulrika as a master rather than just putting her as her standard age, as it's rare to see characters of that age (especially females) in RPGs.

I actually never used a single item in the game, but I don't necessarily see that as a detriment; the battle system is good enough that I didn't have to rely on items, and if I did, they were there for me.

Regarding the spoiler part:

While I agree about your point about Ulrika's relationship to the demon king being confusing, it didn't bother me, as this is a short comedy game, and it was funny that she comes in and trashes his place, in my opinion.
