Description

Friday the 13th is coming up and it coincides with the date of the next Release Something! Day! Talk about a coincidence!

So, some of you might not know what a Release Something! Day (RS!D) is. Basically, it's a day where you release something - anything! - in order to get feedback from the community. Release Something! Day used to be a regularly occurring event in the days of yore, back when the community had a sticky issue of never releasing any games or demos (because perfectionists I guess?). RS!D was created as a way to encourage sharing, collaboration, feedback, and content in the community. The aim is to truly try to capture the spirit of releasing something. It is not about prepping a major release, or making something in a fury to have something new to show for the event. It is about showing your works-in-progress, getting feedback, and checking out what other people are working on. Like a snapshot of RMN's development community.

What kinds of things can be shown? Music, tiles, sprites, graphics of any type, gameplay (videos of gameplay tests are good), tech demos, demos - even completed games (but don't strive for a finished product; that's not the point of RS!D). Let the feedback work for you. Although, there are some limitations to RMN's event profile - only game downloads can be submitted to the "official" event submission. But that's okay! I will manually compile all of the other types of submissions and update the event page.

So, some of you might not know what a Release Something! Day (RS!D) is. Basically, it's a day where you release something - anything! - in order to get feedback from the community. There will even be a podcast covering the releases.

1. If you are posting a game demo or download, make a Gameprofile (if you haven't already), upload the file, and submit the download to this event (by clicking the Submit button in the upper left)
2. If you are posting other media (like screenshots or music or graphics or videos) submit it to the site like normal and then post a link to it in the comments

There will be a badge worth 10 MS for releasing something. Best feedback givers will also get a badge worth 20 MS. Because the feedback is what counts this time.

There might even be a podcast!

@GRS/Kentona: Well, at least they're letting people with mental disabilities get in on political action now. Equality for all!

Yeah it's entirely sickening that you can apparently run a legitimate "democracy" by asking trick questions, though. "Do you agree with us, or do you want to go to jail?"

Some people are just insane. Like, I recently read about a couple who got put in prison for raping their own infant.

Like... Just why!?
Please don't forget when Vic Toews tried a similar thing with expanding internet surveillance where police didn't need a warrant to do it. If you were against it you were clearly on the side of child pornographers!

The question itself isn't anything special either, it's just part of a Push Poll. Same shit as above (You're with us or with Really Bad People), just delivered via a push poll. It has the bonus effect of anybody who mails it in to be targeted accordingly by the CPC ad and media machine. It's an election year in Canada (October is the latest that the election has to be called) so expect lots of awful shit this year!
I love how I decide to check back on this event later and this whole page is a discussion completely unrelated to anything. Kentona's law of RPG forum thread entropy hasn't even kicked in yet where people complain about RPG Maker 2003's agility stat.

That's interesting. I always felt that RM2k3's agility stat was a little bit imprecise? Or how does it work?
The battle system is really slow overall and it was really wonky how the agility of you related to the agility of the enemy. That's why a lot of games have odd agility stat values compared to the other stats. It doesn't help that you have to magnify the damage to like 400% or more (usually through the elements) so that your other stats feel like they mean something. The answer has always been to hack a ton of stuff onto RPG_RT making it even more unstable and less portable for all gripes.

On a thread long ago, I tried to hex edit RPG_RT so the battle speeds were fast. Someone eventually released a DLL injection that fixes the battle speed, but I couldn't ever get it to work myself. Out of that same thread was born the old RPG 20XX prototype which was just me writing RPG_RT from scratch (kind of like an emulator for RPG Maker 2003 games). Enterbrain's file formats and RPG Maker 2003's editor were too maddening that I decided to just make an entirely new RPG creation kit with the same RPG 20XX name. Around the time I was halfway through the prototype, another separate effort, EasyRPG was made and is still the only thing left that claims to convert RPG Maker 2003 games (closest thing to an existing RPG Maker 2003 game player) although they tell me there is no editor.

Yes, all of the above begun because RPG Maker 2003's agility was terrible.

I get the funny sense of a reference to Shin Megami Tensai - Persona 3, and it's Dark Hour, here.

It all started on the 13th hour, of the 13th day, of the 13th month. We were there to discuss the misprinted calendars the school had purchased.

uploading SUPER BATTLE KIDDO EXPERIENCE: THIS VERSION: FINAL RELEASE because i need to get it the fuck off my harddrive and off my chest because i'm sick of waffling around over it
@GRS: The funny thing is, that shit wouldn't fly in Australia because everyone would take it as a joke and pick the terrorist option. Like, fuck yeah mate, I'm with the terrorists. Fuck this government. Fuck Tony Abbot. Terrorism go!~~~

We don't really take our politics seriously because we know we're fucked either way. :/

(everyone who voted abbot hangs their heads in shame. they know they done fucked up big time. idiots.)

Oh, right, RS!D. Let's see... what did I have to release again?
Just finished up my entry today. Now I need to get the go ahead from my super secret super co-collaborator and I can submit it.

I don't have a game page for this, since you said a locker file would suffice. Should I just post the link to the file here?

Is that mailout compulsory, or just a method of garnering names and addresses to target to political campaigns?

I would really like to see something like that in Australia, Liberty is right, the results would be heavily slanted in favour of annoying the government irrespective of the actual question. It's probably why we don't get ones like that. Mores the pity.

So, back OT, when do we get to see the submissions so we can supply feedback?

Or if you live in Jareth's Labyrinth.
Post your links in bold so that we can see them. We'll do a compilation list when more start rolling in that can't be added to the event page normally. ^.^

So, for example, here's one of mine:

Looking forward to everyone else's entries!
It's not compulsory, it's just a push poll and targeting mechanism. It's part of determining what voter block you belong to in their system and how to target you (if at all). One of Dear Leader's party's strengths is that they know who their voting block are and can call on them to vote and donate as elections come up and also know who not to waste resources on (or rather, who to target for voter suppression. Hello robocall scandal!). Everything about that survey is a joke but it has a calculated purpose.

The gist of push polls is usually just to misinform you of issues under the guise of gathering info, but I don't think they actually care about getting responses.
