My memory of the game is a little hazy (it's been over 10 years since I played it!), but I remember really liking Tellah. And Cecil.
However, I just set up an SNES emulator on my PDA, and loaded FFIV, V and VI onto it! I started FFV just for fun. Maybe I'll start FFIV instead.

Kain. Just because his character is plain badass. But I'm gonna leave it at that because I don't want to spoil anything.
I have to say Kain as well, even though he is a backstabbing, flipflopping asshole, his look, style, and especially his Jump attack, well, it's pretty pimp.
Also, you can mention characters that haven't been introduced yet, as long as you don't spoil too much.

Nice update! Fingers crossed that Edward drowned...well that never happens in a FF game *sigh*
After they turned to stone I stopped playing, once you get there this will all be new and interesting to me.

My favorite character is Edward because he's awesome I like Cecil and Kain best, I guess. None of the others are particularly interesting to me so far.
FFIV definitely has its share of 'stock' characters, I'll give you that. However, I think what gives FFIV it's charm is how simple, yet solidly the characters are played out. Every character has their own personality, role in the story, and even their own place in battle. They do their job, and no one is really left out.

I agree about what you say about Edward, but the reason I don't like him is because while he does help your party, I can't really see him as EVER being a badass.
Imagine him being in your party in the battle against Zeromus.
Oh, no way Edwards ever going to be a badass, because well, he isn't. Fortunately for him, he does have his place in the story, so in that, he fulfills his purpose.

Ah... FFIV...
Back in the day (about 4-5 years ago), my brother and I (we were about 5-6), used to have FF Anthology on PS1 (which is FF4-FF5 together), and we used to play it with two controllers XD. We'd share the party, and we'd play our respective characters in battle ^.^ (though, he always managed to be leading on the field... But that didn't matter thanks to FFIV's extremely high encounter rate :P).

The only thing I didn't like about the Anthology versions was how slow the loading times were. It sucked, a lot. And, they COULD have at least fixed the games up a bit (as in bugs and whatnot).

... Anthology had FF5 and FF6 together. The one that had FFIV on the PS1 was Chronicles, and that was packaged with Chrono Trigger. Crazy long load times still apply, however.
I'd echo people's liking for Kain, and add on my own liking for Rosa. She's the classic love interest/white mage character.

That's FF5 art all right... I didn't realize PAL had a different compilation release. the NTSC and JPN releases of Anthology were FF5/6, like I said. Yay for differing releases in differing regions.
Also, I will agree about Tellah for one reason: "YOU SPOONY BARD!"
