DOING IT!
Week the unluckieth.
Week the unluckieth.
DOING IT! is a community event ran each week where a prompt is given and those who wish to fulfill it post their work here. It is entirely optional, you may join at any time - even after a week has finished. Feel free to post as many pieces as you like. Feedback is encouraged.
DETAILED EXPLANATION/QUESTIONS/SUGGESTIONS HERE
RULES
- Post your work in the thread, preferably with some small explanation about it. Whether that be about any troubles you had fulfilling the prompt, how you went about it or how you think it turned out is up to you.
- Feedback is highly encouraged, but optional. No flaming please. Constructional critique is preferred. If you see a piece without feedback, consider leaving even a line about it. Keep feedback polite.
- Keep posts on/in topic. Try not to get too off-track, please.
- "Borrowing". As these threads may include both original graphical and musical creations please ask the creators instead of just adding them to your 'collections'. If authors don't mind adding full works, go ahead, but partial works are also encouraged. If someone states in their post that they do not want their work used, please try to refrain yourself from grabbing with your grubby hands. It makes you look like a fool and a thief when others' point it out. People have been given bad reputations and ostracized from communities for doing this.
- You may add to this topic at any time. A link to this and the other weekly topics to come will be added to the main topic each week. Feel free to add new work to any of them at any time.
If you have any questions, suggestions or ideas for prompts please see the
original thread.
ENJOY YOURSELVES!
PROMPT: SOUND BYTES
Sound is something that can both help and hurt a game. Annoying sounds can get very old, very fast whilst proper application of sound can help create great atmosphere. So, what's your favourite sound effect? Do you use them often, or not at all? Count up how many sound effects you have in your game. Which is the most used/your favourite?
Go forth and create!

WEEK THIRTEEN: SOUND BYTES
Not gonna post a sound effect at the moment, but I find I like footstep sounds for some reason. I had them in the RM2k3 version of Azulea, If I can find a way to place it in Azulea RMVX then that'd be great, having sounds for different types of terrains that you walk over is something I'd like to have.
I haven't made any sound effects for myself so I'm gonna hit up one of those free sound effect sites for it so I don't have to rely on RTP stuff or game sounds.

http://rpgmaker.net/users/Mary4D/locker/Enemy_Die.wav I made this myself and I really like it for some reason. It plays whenever an enemy kicks the buck~
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

That's a nice old school sounding enemy-destroyed sound. Reminds me of explosions in NES games.
I don't pay nearly enough attention to sound effects. I pretty much just use the RTP ones, since if you combine the RTPs from the different makers there are plenty of different sounds for almost any type of attack. Though, I almost never play just one sound effect by itself. I usually overlap them, in an attempt to make them sound more... hectic? Energetic? They sound a little less artificial, anyway.
I never really use sounds in cut scenes at all, except when there's an explosion. I guess I use door sounds sometimes, when someone opens or closes a door. But, like, ambience noises? Footsteps? Someone getting out of a chair, or shuffling papers around on a desk? Never even considered it.

Sound-effect being used as a BGS in a pub, inn, bar, etc. Works wonders, especially with the proper music and everything.

kitten2021, do you mind if I steal that? :< kinda need something like that for the pub in my game.
I pretty much just use RTP sound effects. I consider them a lot in cutscenes, but I won't go out of my way to find the ~perfect one~ or something.
I've always liked footstep sounds a lot (Xenosaga 3's footstep sounds are so perfect) but I can't find any way to not make them sound terrible in RMVX. I'd like to though, because it does bother me a bit when there's no footstep sounds at all.
