I was looking through the New to RMN? article and saw our list of games, and I thought, "Is this it? Or is this out of date? And can we expand this list by fine-tuning the genres a little bit?"

4) Looking for amazing aesthetics? Check these X games out!
...etc...

We have a pretty good list of suggestions covering a decent cross-section of themes and genres, but I'd like to expand on that! Also, a short blurb as to why this game is exemplary!

The Burning Grail - If you ignore the Engrish in The Burning Grail, that game was a very nice twist with a fun battle system. A little too short unfortunately, but really fun all the same!

Probably not for those who don't like post-apoc type games, however.

dear god why is V&V on there, it's terrible

Notoriety != quality.

I'd suggest I Miss the Sunrise by Deltree. It's terrific and unique (although it's basically his first game... in space!).

Well then : Vacant Sky is in its, I'd be unable to define, style : action-story rpg, for example (I still don't get that list...).

Edit : I love Master of the Wind, for example, but find it precisely very UN-traditional, as well as Space Funeral and, even, Dhux's Scar?

Starless Umbra - It's one of the few RPG Maker games that is over 15 hours of gameplay. The story isn't the greatest, but it's gameplay and mini-games are pure gold. It also has more custom systems than you can shake a stick at.

Necropolis - This is probably the best game I've played in the last year. It's old school meets new school with a cast of very interesting characters, a delightful custom battle system, and some very creative gameplay mechanics. It isn't finished, but I think there's enough content to score it a place on that list.

One thing I'd like to clarify is, I don't necessarily need just 1 list. I could make use of several lists of different categories too, like "awesome games still in development but with a playable demo".

I do really enjoy Wither. I don't know if it is quite exemplary but I really think it is close at the very least.

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

If people want more than 40 choices of games to download, we have a pretty advanced search tool that even lets you specify a minimum rating. Instead of manually updating an arbitrary list, maybe you could add more options to the search tool? Like an option to sort games by buzz score, or by number of downloads, or specify a minimum number of reviews.

"awesome games still in development but with a playable demo". : I know there are really "hidden gems" in that category for having played so many, as if the best were always incomplete ? (ABL, Nigsek, to mention just 2), trying to list them, and find the "right" ones : Money & Power struck me as an exceptional game, Runelords something, or again ~RaZoR~... but I'm sure that's a very personal taste, maybe in a list called "Inspired games"?!

Edit : I wanted to name Aftermath, in its rm2k3 first version.

Actually I have to agree with this. Entirely. Rather than have the potential for their to be an argument about who gets to decide what is and isn't exceptional or have any debate about it, more search options and perhaps even a more detailed rating system will allow players to find exactly what they are looking for without any difficulty. Maybe even make the search option more prominent on the front page if you are worried new members won't find it quickly enough. AMAZING SEARCH FEATURE! CLICK HERE! (Hopefully less ostentatious though.)
