Last Public Demo - Version 2.0 - Released!

Well, I think I can say that I am finally satisfied with all of the changes added to the new version! As such, I am releasing the final demo for Legacy of the Lost. At this time, if I had to estimate when the project will be totally completed, it would be next summer.

Unlike version 1.5, you must have RPG Maker VX for this demo to work. Unfortunately, there was a compile error when I included RTP so the only way I knew to fix it was to not include the RTP.

If you use your previous 1.5 save files, the game should work, but breeding will not work correctly, so be warned!

I hope you all enjoy the demo! Here is a full list of changes. :)

Legacy of the Lost Version 2.0:
- Three new regions: Illae, Esrarch and Onyu have been added.
- Monster Breeding is now available.
- Tons of new sidequests were added.
- Based on the answers to the questions at the beginning of the game, Aldain now starts with a special skill.
- Drop rates on monster materials have increased.
- Heal is no longer "holy" based.
- The process for getting information to get through Erdrich Forest has changed.*
- Expansion of Arena.
- Arena no longer only revives Aldain upon defeat.
- Arena victory music is fixed.
- Changed Olian's sprite.
- Changed Aldain's sprite from the side.
- RobMagic now steals enemy's MP instead of just decreasing it.
- Sap and Slow now work with much higher accuracy.
- Removed the "!" warping you to Cardial (was present in version 1.5).
- Exit Bells no longer stop working after the Cardial Region.
- EXP earned from monsters in Rhemhage, Cardial, Yardrick, and Bariden has increased.
- It is no longer possible to get stuck if you die in Sea Devil's Lair before facing the Sea Devil.
- Several actions have been adjusted - in accordance with this change, the stats of certain enemies and bosses have been changed.

KNOWN ISSUES:
- Most battle animations are still RTP default.
- It is possible the game will crash when F12 is used to reset. If it it crashes, the file should not become corrupted.

Seeking Beta Testers for the Last Public Demo!

Progress on Legacy of the Lost has been going smoothly. I'm roughly a little halfway done with the game and think now would be the best time to release the final public demo. With this demo, breeding will be included so people get to try out this exciting new feature.

However, before I release the demo to the public, I would like to have a beta test. If you are interested in helping out, let me know on here or through PM! I am about 2-3 days away from finishing the demo, but I just wanted to get the word out that I am seeking testers. Keep in mind, this demo is expected to take a little over 20 hours to complete. Below is a list of changes from the previous version to the new one:

Changes from previous version (1.5) to 2.0:

- Three new regions, Illae, Esrarch and Onyu have been added.
- Sap and Slow now work with 100% accuracy.
- Removed the "!" warping you to Cardial.
- Exit Bells no longer stop working after the Cardial Region.

*Dr. Rothberg will now simply tell you the route through the forest without having to retrieve the Holy Water first. Now you can get both in any order.

Progress Report

Of Monsters and Breeding

It's been an incredibly long time since I last worked on Legacy of the Lost. About a month ago, my interest in continuing work on the project and the time I had to devote to the project increased and I've made some exciting progress. When I quit the game, I was one region away from needing to create the breeding system. In this past month, I've finished that region and made great progress towards the breeding system. At this rate, the entire breeding system and all the monster possibilities will be completed and finalized by the end of the month! Here are some screenshots of the Monster Breeding System and the Monster Library associated with it.

To select two monsters, you need to click the family icons and then select from your list of monsters below.

The result!

I chose an image of 1EyeClown so that I wouldn't divulge too many breeding possibilities, but the Library is 100% completed.

And lastly, here are a few images from the latest region, Illae.

The people of Illae are devout followers of the goddess, Ezyra.

I do my best to make each boss encounter really make you think and use all the abilities available to you. There are multiple ways to approach the Rosevine battle!

Version 1.5 to come shortly!

I just finished putting the finishing touches on the new version and will have it submitted to the site shortly. You can check the "Update History" section of the game profile to see all the new changes!

With 1.5, old save files won't work as intended. I added a rather nice Game Over system which mimics the old Dragon Warrior style game overs (where you lose half your gold instead of all your progress upon death). This feature won't work if you use your old save file.

To alleviate this, I have added an option in the beginning to skip to where the end of Demo 1.2 left off. In Aldain's bedroom, click the blinking "!" to be transported to Cardial Port City, after beating the Sea Devil. If you didn't play Version 1.2, I would highly recommend not using this method for your game.

Clicking the "!" here will transport you to the end of Cardial.

If you would like to download the demo early, you can do so here! But it will be uploaded on this site within a day. :)

Regarding Balance

Hey all! Wanted to pitch an idea to the community and get some feedback. Through the various beta testers and through the comments of others, many people seem to think that in the beginning on this game (where the only battle strategy is to use attack or items until Level 3) can get a tad repetitive and boring. Part of this was due to what many believe was a too steep EXP curve with enemies giving too little EXP. I have changed the EXP issue in the next demo version I plan to release.
Anyways, I was thinking about skills that I could add to the game that might make the beginning more exciting.

Skill: Retaliate. How Learned? During and Introduction Battle to the game. It will be explained in the intro battle as well.

Retaliate will increase your defense rating (about 40% less than the increase in defense granted by regular defend), and puts you in a state where you have a say 50% chance to counter an attack. So if Slime A hits you while you're in Counter state, you have a 50% chance to strike back to Slime A. If Slime B hits, you'd have a 50% chance to counter and hit Slime B and so on. I would only want counter to proc on normal hits, not magic spells or abilities used by monsters. This would create a useful, but far from overpowered ability that would make the initial game more fun I think! This would be a particularly viable tactic against battles with large groups of enemies, and would add a bit of variety.

I've already got my scripter working on this, but I'm wondering if it sounds like a good idea and would be it be enough?

On another note, I plan to release the newest demo for the game soon! (Probably at the end of this week if all goes well)!

New team member on Legacy of the Lost!

I am a terrible scripter! Truly, the most I can do is change around things in the customizable sections of scripts to my liking. There were several things about some of the scripts I used, that really bothered me, knowing that I could never release the game fully until those issues were solved.

A very kind member at the RPG Maker VX Community, Nelderson, has joined the Legacy of the Lost team as a scripter! I would like to add him to this site as one of the developers, but he just needs to make an account first. :P

Anyways, in three short days, he has already come up with scripts for the following:
- Completley re-hauled my Game Over system, to be exactly like Dragon Warrior games. Now, when a player dies, they are sent back to the last safe location with half their gold, and the first party member in full health. In addition, evented battles won't continue to play upon death like it did in my old Game Over system.
- Helped add an Ironize state.
- Helped add a "MP Poison" state that drains MP instead of HP.
- Created a state that stops MP consumption for three turns.
- Created a "regen" state for me.

I'm very impressed with his work so far, and with him on my team, we can continue to make Legacy of the Lost even better!

Looking for Beta Testers!

Progress on the next version of Legacy of the Lost is coming on rather nicely! However, before I release this next version, I would like to have beta testers so that everything goes off well and the difficulty is in check.

Here is just a glimpse of things changed in the new version:
- Two new regions, Yardrick and Bariden, have been added.
- Arena and Treasure Chest game have been added.
- Icons for items and equipment have been added.
- Alchemy is introduced.
- New sidequests.
- Adjustments to enemy EXP and gold.
- Music now loops correctly.
- Various fixes.
- And more!

If you are interested in becoming a beta tester, please let me know! If you played through version 1.2, your old save file should still be compatible with the new one. There will be an option to skip through Cardial just in case though!

Progress Report

Expanding the Storyline

I've been focusing a lot on enhancing the storyline these past few weeks. Every region is supposed to further enhance the plot in sometimes subtle or significant ways. The region I am currently working on now, brings with it significant progress to the storyline. I have also revisited the introduction cutscene to give it a more dramatic feeling than what was conveyed previously. No longer is the monster that zapped the king to death a mere slime.

Here's just a few screenshots!

Progress Update

I wanted to provide a quick progress update for Legacy of the Lost!

I've started back school, so progress has slowed down a good bit. However, I have finished another region since Version 1.2 and have moved on to the next. After completing this next region, Bariden, alchemy will open up to the players giving more depth to the gameplay! I anticipate that I will be releasing another demo in the coming months. My hope is to have both alchemy and breeding available in the demo so that people can get a feel for both systems!

There is a possibility that 1.2 save files wouldn't work with the next version, so I will add the option in the next version for people to skip all the way through Cardial, so as not to have to repeat what they've already done.
