Fey

A tale of two unlikely friends struggling to piece together their broken pasts.

Everyone has or will face loss of life and faith. These pivotal times are part of each and everyone of our spiritual journeys. Why then do some people emerge from the crisis with their life and faith intact, while others give up on hope, a future, and their reason for living? For Landon, a young boy now burdened by the mistakes of his past, such moments have weighed heavily on his conscience. It isn't until a mysterious shape shifter named, Picaro, draws him back into his broken past, that Landon can find the means and strength to move on with his life.

The spiritual successor to Darkness Shall Bleed, Fey allows players to take control of, Landon Ferngrass and embark on a journey that will push him to his emotional, intellectual and physical limits as he tries to set his past right and discover the truth behind Oak Island and the legendary artifact of souls, the Fire Pearl.

EXCITING NEWS!

Hello!

It's been a while, but I'm back with some news that I'm excited to share. If you're a fan of anything I've produced, most recognized example being Fey (https://rpgmaker.net/games/778/), then boy oh boy do I have news for you. With the advent of RPG Maker (officially) and the ability to publish to itch.io and Steam, I've been hard at work on What's Left (link below). It is a complete re-imagining of Fey, what it was intended to be. It is important to note that this is not just an official release, but something fresh, new, and more importantly... whole. The original version of Fey was, regrettably, rushed, and over half of the game was cut due to too many reasons to list here. But as time passed, it strengthened the sense of unfinished business. That and some persistent fans and friends finally tipped the scales and I began to revise, expand and rebuild the game from the ground up. What was a couple hour experience now spans 6-8, more if you consider the new side quests, hidden areas, secrets to uncover, tools and weapons, locations, story, dialogue, the ability to purchase a house, get a citizenship, buy furniture for your home, explore chunks of open world and etc. The list goes on, and on, and on. Some more notable things are the revised combat system, the ability to use swap weapons on the fly, the new menu, introduction and branching cutscenes. What I felt was a unique game (with the aim for it to play like a movie) is now a complete experience.... Oh, and for my fans (by popular request) there is a TON more Picaro, including the ability to utilize his unique powers at will. For more information, and to keep up to date on the progress, (Steam page is under construction, along with Youtube page, itch.io, and various others) clink the link below and subscribe. You can also sneak a peak at some more videos and screenshots on my Twitter and Instagram! Make sure to follow on your preferred platform! I appreciate the support and hope you'll share my excitement as I move toward release with in the coming months!!!

I might go back and review this game. Honestly more people need to play it. The only RPG Maker game to make me bawl my eyes out.

I recently finished this game, and I must say,it was one of the very few non-horror rpg maker games I enjoyed. The game was so sad and the shape shifter will probably give me nightmares for the next couple weeks.Awesome game!

I'm glad to hear that you Enjoyed it. Thanks for taking the time to play it. :)
I enjoyed this game! The story was fantastic! I completed it in just under 5 hours game time. I always felt like there should have been more of an open-world to explore. So many locked/jammed doors everywhere and not a whole lot to buy in the shops, but for a one-man job (as far as I know?) it was a wonderful storyline to play through! I even got a jump-scare in the mines! Despite being a 2D RPG, the creep factor really grabs you in this game. Nice job! I'm glad you finished producing it! Thanks!!

I know I'm super late to this party, but I absolutely loved Fey!
I played it last year, and the story and atmosphere grabbed me right away - it was a joy to play!
Thanks for making it! :)

Hey, um, I've got a problem with the sound on my computer and I'm stuck at chapter IV with the lock picking, can you tell me what the code is?

Hey no problem. The code is 4,1,0 so that equates to pin 1: up,up. Pin 2 down. Pin 3: down, down. Let me know if that works. :)
huh, this game is popular indeed. Gotta give it a try.

This was an amazing game!! Great job!!

Thank you very much! :)
Fun game! I am very impressed you did custom graphics for almost everything.

I only have a few minor gripes. It's highly unlikely you'll revisit this project, but might as well leave some feedback anyway.

- Using shift for the menu just felt weird. I never got used to it during the game as it's not a common way to bind a menu. Why not just use the standard ESC key?

- The rock worm part was more frustrating than fun. It's not really intuitive what I was supposed to be doing. I bombed them for like 15 minutes before I realized I had to hit them with the sword too. The game tells you your sword won't be strong enough to damage them, so using the sword never even crossed my mind. I thought I was supposed to just use the bombs, but that wasn't killing them either.

- The quick time events were annoying and mildly frustrating. Not really your fault though. This engine isn't really meant to handle that kind of thing.

Other that than, I am really enjoying this game so far! The story flows smoothly and the maps are extremely well done. I love how the characters have animations for almost everything they do. It was a nice touch and shows you put a lot of time and effort into it. Keep up the great work!

First of all, thank you for the feedback. It's always nice to have it-whether it's good or bad.
Thank you for the kind words and I felt the shift key felt best in the original draft, as it was the menu to switch weapons on the fly. So, I just sort of grew used to it and decided to leave it. Also, due to the map and the ease of the player not having to stop to look at the keyboard, etc.
I'm sorry the rock worm part was a little convoluted, in retrospect it was and there was supposed to be a spot that triggered to explain that, which I believe was removed(can't seem to recall why) I, was heavily influenced by Zelda at the time and looking back, I can see where taking inspiration from their tried and true formula was not the best course of action.
The quick time events where, and still seem to be, a person enjoyment, but I am glad you are able to stick it out and keep playing regardless.
Thanks again for taking the time to let me know your experience and thoughts.
Hey, I just finished the game. I stick by my post above when I say it's a very well made game. Full of charm and memorable characters. I loved how all the graphics are custom. The cutscenes are brilliant and well orchestrated.

Story really picks up it's pace towards the end. The ending pretty much put closure on everything and tied up all loose ends which is nice and exactly what an ending should do. Great job there as well. :)

There's a few things that are a little rough around the edges like the shop, and the collectible treasures, and the books with the weapon skills. Seemed kind of pointless in the grand scheme of things but it adds another layer to the game which is probably why you added it. Also, the town had a bunch of empty buildings which seemed kind of odd too.

Some of the fights go on waaaaay too long. Ghost pirates, I'm especially looking at you. The long fights and the quicktime events are my main gripes, but the game is good enough where they can be overlooked.

Overall though, I'm very impressed. I can try to write a full review when I get some free time if you'd like me to.

Thanks you and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'd love an extended version of your thoughts.

As for the collectible treasures and the shops, there's two things worth noting; the collectibles and the weapon skills, where built into the foundation of a much larger game that was open world, but due to development time, change of focus and real world problems, things became more story focused and were stream lined. And the shops were built to be dynamic, allowing the player to find almost everything in the game if they put the effort in, but if they missed stuff, like the weapon skill book, they were charged double and still had a chance to get it. Same for the seeds. They all could be purchased, but they all could be found as well. Which is why some other items, like the tiki were useful, as they doubled all money that was picked up after buying it. To a dedicated player, this, in retrospect, left a little to be desired. A lesson for another day.

But Overall, I'm happy your experience was a positive one. Thank you again for taking the time to leave your thoughts, and I look forward to reading your review should you decide to post one.
