Fey

A tale of two unlikely friends struggling to piece together their broken pasts.

Everyone has or will face loss of life and faith. These pivotal times are part of each and everyone of our spiritual journeys. Why then do some people emerge from the crisis with their life and faith intact, while others give up on hope, a future, and their reason for living? For Landon, a young boy now burdened by the mistakes of his past, such moments have weighed heavily on his conscience. It isn't until a mysterious shape shifter named, Picaro, draws him back into his broken past, that Landon can find the means and strength to move on with his life.

The spiritual successor to Darkness Shall Bleed, Fey allows players to take control of, Landon Ferngrass and embark on a journey that will push him to his emotional, intellectual and physical limits as he tries to set his past right and discover the truth behind Oak Island and the legendary artifact of souls, the Fire Pearl.

EXCITING NEWS!

Hello!

It's been a while, but I'm back with some news that I'm excited to share. If you're a fan of anything I've produced, most recognized example being Fey (https://rpgmaker.net/games/778/), then boy oh boy do I have news for you. With the advent of RPG Maker (officially) and the ability to publish to itch.io and Steam, I've been hard at work on What's Left (link below). It is a complete re-imagining of Fey, what it was intended to be. It is important to note that this is not just an official release, but something fresh, new, and more importantly... whole. The original version of Fey was, regrettably, rushed, and over half of the game was cut due to too many reasons to list here. But as time passed, it strengthened the sense of unfinished business. That and some persistent fans and friends finally tipped the scales and I began to revise, expand and rebuild the game from the ground up. What was a couple hour experience now spans 6-8, more if you consider the new side quests, hidden areas, secrets to uncover, tools and weapons, locations, story, dialogue, the ability to purchase a house, get a citizenship, buy furniture for your home, explore chunks of open world and etc. The list goes on, and on, and on. Some more notable things are the revised combat system, the ability to use swap weapons on the fly, the new menu, introduction and branching cutscenes. What I felt was a unique game (with the aim for it to play like a movie) is now a complete experience.... Oh, and for my fans (by popular request) there is a TON more Picaro, including the ability to utilize his unique powers at will. For more information, and to keep up to date on the progress, (Steam page is under construction, along with Youtube page, itch.io, and various others) clink the link below and subscribe. You can also sneak a peak at some more videos and screenshots on my Twitter and Instagram! Make sure to follow on your preferred platform! I appreciate the support and hope you'll share my excitement as I move toward release with in the coming months!!!

There's a rather funny oversight in Chapter 1: You can move around while reeling in the fish! If you go up to the next area, the game plays normally, but you're invisible and can't walk up stone stairs. If you go back down, the reeling resumes and you can pull a fish out of the ground if you want to (or just fail the QTE), and the cutscene will resume as though you were still standing in the original spot (so, you'll be talking to nobody). Also, if you enter the house with the rats while reeling, you are again invisible, but you can't attack, meaning that you're stuck inside the building.

Since you can't climb stairs, you can't sequence break with this, so this is just more amusing than game breaking as far as I know. I'm going to experiment with is some more, but I doubt anything too interesting will pop up.

Otherwise, this game's pretty nice so far (I just finished fighting the pirate captain). Graphics and music are all nice, and onscreen characters actually have some animation for a change. Combat has the slight awkwardness and occasionally BS collision detection to be expected from any action game with grid-based movement, but its still doable. The story hasn't really shown much of itself yet, but it seems to be building up to something good.
that's very strange, I'll have to look into that, I've never come across that before in testing... :S

EDIT: I found the problem area, not sure how that happened or was missed, but hey, thanks for pointing it out. It's fixed now.

Time to give this one a go!
:D
It glitched somewhere at the beginning of chapter 4. The chapter screen kept looping over and over eveytime I pressed z.
Weird. I've never heard of that happening before. I'll look into it.
This was by far one of my favourite RPG games I've played on RMN. Holy crap, I have no words for how awesome this is. That ending, AGH! 5/5, man.

Thank you very much. I'm glad you loved it! :D
Hey Ashes! I think you have a lot of talent and I personally want to see more of your work! Are you thinking of doing a video diary or releasing some sketches of Fey in progress? I know I am definitely interested!

To be honest, I have had plans to go into great depth of how I did everything since early development, if for no one else, then myself. I learned a lot while developing Fey and I would love the chance to share that with the community. It's one of those things I am working on, but I am taking my time to do right. So that being said, I imagine it won't be out for a little while yet. But please, by all means, keep checking back for future updates. I actually have a ton of stuff to upload in terms of videos and pictures, and just everything I haven't had time for. So keep an eye out!
I tried writing a review for Fey because I think it's amazing, but I just got a notice of rejection so I shall post it here as a comment.
I have been playing games on RPGmaker through my friends account for a few months now and when I ran into Fey I finally decided to make an account of my own. It is the most beautiful game I have come across in a long time. I NEVER would have thought I would run into such pure gold on an indie game site. Ashes I REALLY LOVE your game and I am just dying to play more from you. If you could make some video diaries or something more for your fans, personally I would be ecstatic! Thanks for all the breath taking game play. Hope to see Ashes games in store one day!

*claps* You sir, you have my applause. You get it. ;)
I don't think I've ever been as affected by a game as with Fey.

Bravo Ashes of Emerald, you provide proof that games can be art.
