Generic RM2k3 RTP Gaming Fun!

I always wanted to make that game based on everything I enjoyed as a kid. This is the end result.

Hero's Realm creates a super-synergy of proactive features to create a gaming experience greater than the sum of its parts.

Lead four heroes and their teams against the evil forces of Mephistocles, the Lord of Demons in this retro-RPG adventure. Toggle between the four heroes as you explore dungeons, ascend towers, spelunk caves, save villages and defeat the forces of evil! Reminiscent of classic RPGs such as Dragon Quest III and Final Fantasy V, Hero's Realm is a fun romp in old-school RPG nostalgia.

-22 character classes (12 base classes, 4 hero classes, 3 secret classes, 3 master classes)
-TONS of game content and sidequests
-Classic NES-era and SNES-era RPG gameplay
-Great music
-Multi-party switching system (like Kefka's Tower in FFVI!)
-Multi-party tactical battles (at least 5 of them!)
-Massive world map
-Fun

The story is split into 5 chapters, with each of the first four chapters focusing on a new hero, and the 5th chapter bringing them all together.

Chapter 1: Won't Somebody Please Think of the Children?
Chapter 2: There is Something Fishy Going on...
Chapter 3: Land of the Rising Son
Chapter 4: True Calling
Chapter 5: The War on Terror

I'm probably gonna play it again soon. I never did finish it.
Edit: Won't somebody please think of the children!?
How do I vote for this? Can't find the button...
voting only applies to games released THIS year.

This game is worth it. I actually half-assed my homework to play it. :)

Expose to future risk or constraint for the sake of immediate advantage
Well, it's just Skills Class. Like that matters...
EDIT: How do you get an 'official' cobra's member card?
Q: How do I get an authentic Cobra Club Member Card?
A: After speaking with the guard to the Cobra Club's hideout, visit the Stromholm jail at night and speak to the imprisoned Cobra Club leader King Cobra. Out of the goodness of his heart, he will give you his member card.

Had no clue that there was a walkthrough.
Welp.
I've started playing Hero's Realm again and I was wondering if anyone has come out with a party combination that uses all of the class throughout the four heroes’ minus the elite and master class? I've been reading the forum and have made it to page 17 so far. When I first started playing I used only elite classes (minus the joker) and found it a little boring, I want to play with every character.

If someone has I believe the party must have a rogue, warrior, and a mage; each party must have a healer, it would be nice if each party had an undead fighter and each party was as diverse as possible.
Also Kentona, maybe you mentioned this somewhere but are you Canadian? I read you mention you are not American and that 9/11 does not have as much importance to you as your neighbors to the south, neighbors to the south sounds like America which would make you Canadian right? Also aren’t Canadians in a way North Americans?
Yes, Canada is part of the North American continent. And yes I am Canadian.

In my tests, I used every party member. After my experience, I wrote up a summary of my thoughts on the relative effectiveness of the classes:

Take a gander!
My engineer has lost his ability to flee, does anyone know how such a thing can happen and how to get it back? I know its a dishonorable ability but fleeing whenever I can is how i have stayed weak enough to give the game a challenge

Also Kentona did you name Cadana after Canada?

1) No, it is not possible to change classes in New Game +. (I just kind of tacked that option on at the end. It's just the same game, but you get to keep your party, levels and items)

Why would you remove the ability to do this? This drastically kills replayability.

Other things this game is in need of is an options menu to turn down the game music and / or sound volume levels, if such a thing is possible, as well as a method to change the in-game battle speed to Fast, if that is also possible. Every time a battle starts I spend the seconds staring at the bar, waiting for it to load.

The game would also benefit greatly from an item that 'Dings' if there's a hidden item on the screen that you haven't found, in the manner of the Treasure Finder in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, but I doubt this is at all easy to code. I spent forever looking for that man's gold in the dirt in chapter 2, never could find it - I suspect he was trolling me.

If you want to replay the game with different classes, why not start a new game?

Neither of those things are possible. Especially the second one, unfortunately (with the first one, you can just use the Windows Volume Controls to change the SW Synth and Wave volumes if you like). I think GameOverGamesProductions has a utility that doubles the speed of battles. You should check the Engine Utilities link below.

That IS a good idea. I wish I thought of that.
I probably wouldn't start the game over at level 1 again because quite a few points in the game were a trial to get through due to the high random encounter rates. The worst points was where I kept getting backattacked over and over by 1-2 mobs I could kill in a single strike, but had to wait 5-8 seconds for the bar to fill just so I could kill them. Don't get me wrong, it's a good game, it's just the bars take forever to fill.

Also, I seem to have encountered a bug. I used all my tarot cards that I could use at the start of Chapter 5 on my Harlequin. As a result he now has two Moon Tarot Cards in his magic list, somehow. I hope this won't break anything later down the line.

Edit: I also seem to have lost a Cursed Necklace I picked up in Akira's chapter in the maze funhouse. It's not equipped to anyone, it's not in my inventory, I guess it got lost when the four inventories merged?
Yeah, there are some limitations of the RM2k3 engine that I could not overcome - the fill rate of the ATB bars being one of them.

Also, I think the next time you get into battle with the Harlequin, the extra spells will go away (probably). If not, it's no big deal.

And about the cursed necklace - that's probably it!
I also seem to have acquired a Falcon Sword somewhere along the line, x4 attacks weapon. I don't recall ever picking up a Falcon Sword in the first four chapters, which makes me believe that perhaps my Cursed Necklace became a Falcon Sword. If I picked up a weapon like this, I would have used it immediately.

Or is the FS in a chest somewhere in the first four chapters and I simply didn't notice?

Aha! That must be it! Because the same thing happened to me in my testing where I had this Falcon Sword and was like..."When did I get this?". I couldn't remember picking it up, so I chalked it up to me either cheating to give it to me, or having it as a reward for something earlier in the game that I later changed. But being in possession of the cursed necklace at the end of the first four chapters and having that being (inadvertently) changed into the Falcon Sword makes sense.

We'll call it a "feature"
Bug Report: Going back into the cells after freeing King Cobra and fleeing the city leaves you unable to go back up the stairs. It tells you you have to free King Cobra, meaning you have to go through the maze all over again.

Bug Report: Fake 'Cobra Member's Card' apparently didn't carry over in the party item merge. I was given the opportunity to buy another from the guy in Chapter 5, though.

Bug Report: Sometimes when using the jester's Goof Off, everyone else in the battle cannot act. The players, the enemies, no one except the jester can do anything every single turn unless the jester uses something that targets a player - such as the song of healing. Everyone acts at once when that happens.

Bug Report: The portal to Aleksandria is one-way. You can teleport out of Aleksandria using it's portal, but not use the one in the castle to go back. Nothing happens when you walk over it.

Bug Report: Jester Hats -also- don't carry over to chapter 5. I wonder why so many items get lost when the parties merge?
