Over two hundred years ago, the five heroes defeated the god of darkness; Ragnarok, in a climactic struggle for the fate of the world. Banished back to the realm of darkness known as the Abyss, the threat of the evil god had finally been put to rest once and for all...or so they thought.

Umbral Soul follows the story of Ragnarok’s loyal servant, Pandora, who joins her master in a quest to conquer the world and reclaim his lost power. In order to shroud the world in eternal darkness, they will have to find and recruit new allies, build an army of powerful monsters, and raise a force strong enough to crush anyone who dares to oppose them. Heroes, generals and rival overlords all stand against them. Do you have the power to make the world yours?

Pandora
A powerful dark sorceress with the ability to call forth monsters from the Abyss and enslave them to her will. Her burning hatred for the world and its people leads her to follow Ragnarok with unwavering loyalty.

Ragnarok
The god of darkness, who seeks dominion over the human realm. Once an extremely powerful being in the form of a monstrous demon, he has now been reduced to a mere soul. He wishes to plunge the entirety of the human realm into darkness, in part out of spite for his counterpart; the goddess of light, Lumielle.

Lanith
Beautiful, deadly, and self absorbed to a tee, Lanith is a succubus with a never ending hunger for the lifeforce of men. Having served under Pandora since she was only a child, she has a knack for getting under her skin, and does so whenever the opportunity arises.

Damien
A deeply twisted and sadistic young man, Damien loves nothing more than manipulating others and watching them squirm. While he has kept his true nature a secret, Ragnarok’s uprising marks the perfect opportunity for him to cut loose and have some fun...by killing as many enemies as possible.

Azrielle
The lord of all demons, who is fiercely loyal to Ragnarok and possesses an extreme, seething hatred for humanity. After failing to aid his master in conquering the world the first time, he has no intention of repeating the same mistakes again.

I'm back, baby!

Hey everybody, hope you've been doing well. I'm pleased to say I was just recently discharged from rehab, so at long last after over a month I'm home. They ran a whole lot of tests on me and I had several surgeries, so I am finally no longer in danger of croaking. That means I'm finally free to double down on game development, when I'm not stuck sitting in some doctor's office that is. Thank you all for your well wishes, they went a long way towards improving my mental health through that strenuous time. Welp, that's enough chatter. I've got some game making to do.

Posts

I really do not need a answer, I want to be surprised for what is going to happen.

I can answer that for you. It's pretty spoilery, so if you really want to know, send me an email and I'll send you a response.

could i by any chance get some spoilers too, senpai? like, whatever info you are willing to give, i am hype for even the tiniest details :3
Spoilers:
You start up Umbral Souls 2. You watch a few cutscenes, then everyone dies, credits roll, and you sit staring at the screen, frustrated you have to wait 3 days to buy a gun.
Some anti-viruses flag rpg maker vx ace exe's as false positives, but there's nothing to worry about. I've tested it, re-tested it, double tested it, and even super-dee-duper tested it, and I can assure you it's perfectly clean.

ok thank you ^^
I think it's finally time for an FAQ section, which would - of course - be completely ignored. :D

yea i missed the demon maids one and the insatiable hunger...

also, if there was a way to continue playing the game after the end boss. ie: we can still terrorize the ppls that would add stat points to our team. or a extra dungeon for hign lvl only like lvl80+ or something....

Spoilers, because...uh, spoilers.

Sounds like you must've missed the vampire sidequest then. That one's linked to a few other sidequests. Assuming you have a save file before you entered the capital, you should still be able to complete them. When Grelda disappears from Pandora's room, talk to Narissa with Azrielle in your party to start the vampire questline. You'll want to make sure you talk to her again before you finish this sidequest. Once you've completed the quest, talk to the singing demon in the orb room inside the vampire castle to start another sidequest. After you've saved Grelda, talk to her in Pandora's room to start another sidequest. Doing all this should net you the missing scenarios.

As for a postgame, I had thought of doing that, but there were a few issues that changed my mind. At the end of the game, everyone in Pandora's party becomes boss tier, possessing new overpowered skills that I was planning on keeping a surprise until the sequel. For instance, Pandora can use multiple summons at once instead of just one at a time. I can't begin to imagine how I would event that in, and there would be no character left in the game short of Lumielle herself that would be able to challenge all the acolytes at once due to how stupidly OP they become. I'm not even talking about "ha ha ha you can't hurt me" level OP. I'm talking "everything on screen dies in one turn" level OP. The main reason I decided against it though, is because I wanted the player to see how Pandora's party's skills have evolved since their power boost in order to emphasize how utterly, hopelessly outclassed the heroes are.

games are pretty easy to balance, just takes time.... you could always introduce a higher being that reduces their op'ness... a lot of games do that (ie: start off super strong then something, uh oh happen, then we start lvl 1 lol) but i mean its not overly hard...

the extra content really is for us die hard fans that would love to play more.... add a few hard bosses, add a few dungeons... no need to add story line... call it a v1.5, while we wait for 2.0 !

anyways, just my 2 cents, i know its lots of work on your part... and we all appreciate it.

thanks again,

Kaou.
Hey, Wheelman, I noticed Umbral Souls got an update! I hope you fixed the "thier"s lmfao

Also, do you happen to have a playable version of Luminous Souls I can play test for ya? Been lookin forward to it for a while now :)
Yo oskan, it's been a while man! The last update I did was quite a while ago, and just tweaked some of the movesets a bit while fixing some glitches. Sadly, the current upload is still plagued by the "thier" scourge, but I'm pretty sure I got them all, so after the next update I should finally be rid of them. Yeesh, you know sometimes I regret making a game with 2000 events with 7+ pages each. Oh woe is me.

I don't know if I told you this, but the next update is going to be a pretty big one. There will be a new campaign where you play as Serene's party, some adjustments made to the villains' movesets, a bunch of new scenarios, some modifications to the mapping, and some other snazzy bells and whistles. As for Luminous Soul, when I get something worth playing done, I'll be sure to let you know. Thanks for the assist man.
No problem. I'm happy to help. I can't wait to replay Umbral Soul once the update rolls out. Wait... Serene? As in the heroes that try and stop Pandora? Interesting.... I mean, its a bit of a moot point since I know Pandora is going to kill them all and revive Ragnarok, but I'm looking forward to it all the same. Can't wait for Luminous Souls either. Been itching to put the hurt on Pandora and Ragnarok for a while now lmfao
Hello,
I have been enjoying umbral soul but I have found a bug which is annoying but not game ending. While I was in Reinhart's side story specifically the crystal timeless section my dragon got to level 15 so I checked if I could teleport to my castle expecting not to be able to because you took Marcus out of my party. Well it was allowed and I decided while I was gone I should pick up another party member for the fight. After the quest Marcus rejoined the party leaving me with 3 dark mage allies when I should only have 2.

Currently the game knows I have 3 dark mages so any scenes trigger for any of them. I can't take Azriel out of my party. If I summon a monster in battle the 3rd dark mage will enter the battle instead and if I want to use a monster then I have to do a weird shuffle in the castle to put party members in the fifth slot.

This bug can be fixed just by not allowing the portal spell in crystal world, but a way to get people to leave your party without recruiting anybody might do it to.

When I was doing the succubus scenario I hoped that would fix it for me but it did not.
Next time wait for it to load.
Yeah that's most definitely a bug, you're not supposed to be able to teleport in the crystal dungeon. If I remember correctly the issue was that the gloom crystals in that dungeon would remove the state that seals Abyssal Portal when it you use them.

The events that forcibly change your party add or remove party members based on who you had with you when they're triggered, so I don't think there's a way to get rid of that extra member. If you have a previous save, from before you added them, I'd suggest starting from that point. If you'd prefer, I can give you my email so you can send me your save file and I can manually remove them.
I was saving frequently but not in separate files so it is not recoverable. Since you have offered I would take the manual removal. In general so far good old school work, I've enjoyed it.
ok i finished the game and it was SO FUN, the story is AMAZING and i love the fact that you play as villains. characters are really interesting and i have to say that damien is by far my fav :D. battle system is great and abilities fit the characters perfectly, damiens dark string is an amazing concept and so fun to use and i had damien in my team from start to finish. summoning was also very fun and cool and it made all those side quests feel super rewarding. the only thing that i didnt like was the ending, it wasnt bad but it wasnt good either, it just didnt pack that punch and it wasnt very satisfying finish to the story. Are you maybe planning on making a part 2 cause that would explain it and i would be super excited about that, if that were to happen i would also be really interested to see what side prevails ( maybe make 2 possible endings ^^ ). also 2 questions: can i cure that poor sick girl in vallwin village and is it possible to enter sullivan manor?
You cant heal the sick girl or enter Sullivan Manor.
You are evil after all to the first and the second... you just cant enter it.

And yeah he is making a second game, where you play as the heroes. This game will also get an update with a new campaign where you play as the hero's as well. At least that was the status last time i checked in.

Also way to go Wheelmanzero I replayed it again. It was still fun.
What's that you say? You thought the ending wasn't satisfying you say? Well good, because it's all part of my diabolical plan. You see, Umbral Soul is only the first half of a two part story; the first where you play as the villains rising to power, and the second where you play as the heroes trying to undo everything they've done. Every last character in this game will make a return in the next, but this time they will be your enemies. As for which side prevails...well, you'll just have to see for yourself!

Sullivan Manor can't be entered, but it needed to be in this game in order to set up one of the story arcs that takes place in the sequel. Likewise, the little girl can't be cured, and her story doesn't conclude until the next game. A lot of the stories in this game were meant to be left unfinished so they could be wrapped up later. Thanks for playing and sharing your thoughts, jay. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself and hope you'll enjoy my future projects just as much.

(P.S. Damien was my favorite too.)

Edit: What? You mean I didn't even have to bother typing all that? dasgibtesnet, I'm considering hiring you for tech support. I can pay you 1 and 1/2 fig newtons an hour.

YAY YAY YAY :D I was hoping there is a sequel, i cant wait for it XD I cant wait ^^. Personally i woul prob like villains to win but again im very interested to see if heroes can "purify" pandy XD. do you have any ideas when exactly the sequel will be released, also pls make 2 possible endings so that we can see both sides win ^^
Ha! Well I'm sure part of the reason you'd like the villains to win is because you've had time to get attached to them. Who knows, by the time the final battle comes around, you may have grown attached to the heroes as well. It's true that the villains winning would mean freedom for the demons and dark mages, but it would also mean oppression and/or enslavement for everyone else. So yeah, kind of a trade off.

I'm not going to try and estimate a date because I'm not very good at it and I don't know what life is going to throw at me between now and then. I will say that the sequel is very ambitious and will hopefully be worth the wait. I haven't mentioned this yet, but there will be some alternate endings depending on whether you win or lose certain important battles. You'll know them when you see them.
