Dark Souls (I and II)!
You can evade most deaths just by being super cautious.
What UPRC is describing sounds like boletarian palace, which is the first area of Demon's Souls. There are a lot of goons hiding behind corners just waiting to jump at you, but they all can be countered simply by walking to a new place with your shield up, taking a good look of your surrounding before rushing anywhere.
Patience is pretty much the most important thing you can have with these games. You can beat even the most frustrating bosses just by waiting for the right moment to attack.
There is one moment in boletarian palace that i consider somewhat cheap and probably causes deaths on the first time for most players. There is this bridge that you must cross, once you do so, you get attacked by a dragon that comes out of nowhere burning everything on it's path.
Now the game does warn you however. At the beginning of the stage you see the same dragon, at the start of the bridge you see charred smoking corpses and once on the bridge you actually hear wing flaps before the attack.

Itaju, i'm guessing the one on right is the new one? That really is a flawless chipset. What is this new engine you speak of?
Cage, looking good. The blue haired guy reminds me of some rm-game...
CashmereCat, that's very interesting screenie.. I have no idea what's going on but looks cool. In my mind those swirly things are moving across the screen.
Edit:
Here's my entry for the 10 grand competition:

Still in very early stages..

VX ACE parallax background problem
Okay so I'm new to VX ACE and just started my first project. I intend to use parallax background instead of more traditional mapping for this game.
So i made a map of 20x15 tiles and I got a background image of the same measures set. It looks good on editor, but when I try to test the map, image doesn't show correctly. It gets cut a little from bottom and right edge. Also when I walk towards right side with the character, it slows down a little while the map is scrolling. Dunno if that has anything to domwith the problem?
Am I missing something here? I tried looking internet and saw some tutorial on youtube, but there were no such problems with the guy there. He just set the map with the image and it was all fine.

Are any of you guys in a bad financial situation?
I'd probably end up living under the bridge before i'd move back to my parents' place. I actually haven't spent a single night there after i moved out. But that's just me, I got problems. I always say to people that it's just a good thing if you got healthy relationship with your folks and are able to rely on them when necessary. I hear that's what families are for?
But yea, i understand your desire to be independent. I live in Finland and we get all kinds of support money for different situations, so even if i was unemployed and spent days drinking, i'd still have enough money to live on my own. Although i seem to have found a loophole in this system. Buy an apartment and become a student afterwards. Not the wisest move.

I've always been sorta poor really. So it doesn't matter. Although i'm in a bit tricky situation right now. I used to be in worklife for few years and got somewhat decent salary (not much to be honest), so we bought an apartment with my GF. We got it about 2 years ago when banks were still giving some ridiculous loans.
A year ago i randomly applied to this graphic design school with no real belief in making in, just trying out for curiosity, but of course I made it. I pretty much hated my previous work, so I decided to become a fulltime student again. Because we own an apartment, I don't get the full support money, students get in my country. I've been working weekends in this cold-warehouse and now I got a new job for summer.
I haven't had any extra money for one year, but i'm pretty content. Give me a guitar, pen and paper and i'm happy. Even if we made a personal bankrupcy, i probably wouldn't care. I don't really like money.

What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?
author=Mobhwhich one? I've considered the one on PSN like thousand times, but always the 5 euro pricetag seems too much. (No idea why, cuz i love horror games)
Finally got my hands on Forbidden Siren. Spooky game!
Anyways, i just got back from Japan and got few games real cheap. Dynasty Warriors 7 + xtreme legends, Metal Gear Rising, Bushido Blade 2 and LSD - Dream Simulator.
DW7 is okay, but as far as hack n slash games go, MGR is way more interesting and one of the funnest games i've played on PS3-era. DW7 will get playtime once i get someone to sit down with me. Bushido Blade wasn't quite as cool as i remembered but the concept is still one of a kind. I heard lots of praise when it comes to LSD, but honestly i regret getting it a little. It has it's moments.... But.... It's not very good game. I'll sink in few more days, maybe i get to see some really bizarre shit to convince me otherwise.
Oh and a friend of mine borrowed Persona 4 to me and so far it has gotten the most hours from all these games.
Edit, so i gave LSD another try, totally worth it. I was in this place that looked like someones intestine system. I saw a baby with a red appron there. Baby also noticed me when i got closer, got scared and ran away. I was chasing it, but the darn thing ran through a wall. I was a little bummed but then i heard some weird noices nearby. I checked the room next to me and found like 10 more babies jumping around!
Dark Souls (I and II)!
I'm a huge fan of the series. It was love on first sight when a friend of mine borrowed me Demon's Souls way back.
Even though I always go to a wrong direction in the beginning and end up wasting first few days bashing my head to a stone wall.
In DS1 I somehow completely missed those stairs that lead to undead burg and thought catacombs was the place to be. I also somehow missed the concept of necromancers being responsible of the immortality of those skeletons. So I spent eternity kicking skeletons down to the pit, thinking there's no other way to get rid of them. Then when i slowly made my way to lower levels, all those skeletons waited me there making the area seem ridiculously difficult. I also didn't kill those necromancers at any point because i lacked any ranged weaponry and there was always few skellies with bows next to them, so i ran past them. Then I met a titanite demon down there, i fell down a trapdoor only to meet one of those dark knights and i also got to meet skeletons wheels. This broke me and I had to check FAQ online whether there was something i missed...
Oh yea, and since i got no Souls from those immortal skeletons, there was no way for me to level up except killing those crazed undead that give you like 3 souls per kill. In my desperate attempt, i slaughtered all the NPCs i could find just to get few more levels and so ease my hellish battle down at the catacombs.
Good times... :)
