Release Something! V - Discussion Thread
Just played Demon Tower, which I was heavily anticipating today. Haven't finished yet, but I'm positive the rest of it will pan out evenly.
Presentation: 9/10
Craze seems to have a handle on using RTP as a means to attract attention to everything else about the game. Especially the menu, which is very polished yet so easy to use. Enemy sprites look silly and out of place most of the time, but the music sets the mood every step of the way and helps me to forget all about that. Dialogue and character development are spot on as well, and make it easy for me to identify with certain characters regardless of their cookie-cutter images. There's a light emotional engagement to the experience that lets me enjoy it so much more than other games, and that's why this scores really high in my book.
Gameplay: 8/10
I'm using a very focused strategy coming into this game, and it has proven to be quite effective. My only problem is that I don't believe it should be:

Consider myself having made a blood pact with these two. I have chosen to never remove these two characters from my party under any circumstances, and naturally they have accumulated a lot of skills during combat as a result of this decision. The other two slots have basically become auxiliary for specific threats. I may have been inclined to trade the duo for the advantages of other tanks and healers in my party early on, but as they gained skills and equipment, these advantages became of lesser importance to the sheer damage output and healing ability the two of them could dish out. It slowly became harder and harder to want to use anyone else in their spots. That does not mean no one else was useful - each had a specific utility that made my main attackers' life in the tower a lot easier. I just feel as though I shouldn't have been able to play this way.
The only time I was forced to use multiple characters in a single battle was against the first boss. (Mind you, it was the first time I realized I could even do that!) Man, was he a pain in the ass. He was basically built to prevent me from doing what I had been doing the whole game, by nullifying Martin's Class Change V and doing ridiculous damage whenever it "lashed out," making it hard for Darren to recover off Rage of the Wolverine. I needed to work with many party members to keep things in shape - Stefan performed Attack Buffs, Eon Feather blinded the bastard, and Titania managed to get one buff song in before dying horribly. (Poor, poor Titania... I have the worst luck with her) Then, in-between healing, I used Felix, Kristoph, Colin, and Goldurn to keep dealing damage each turn, until the poor guy couldn't take anymore. It was a satisfying battle to have to use all of them at once. It should have happened more often, though, and to lesser degrees of severity.
(BTW, Class Mimic V says it covers the entire party, but I can only use it on one character. Is the skill wrong, or the description? If the way I was playing is not what you'd expect, then I suggest you leave the skill as is and change the description... ^_^;)
So yeah, that's why it's an 8 instead of a 10. If you don't mind this stuff, consider it a 10 anyways.
Fun Factor: 10/10
I hurried all my late-night activities and obligations just so I could play this sample without any interruptions. I still intend to complete it. Need I say more?
Overall: 9/10
No game is perfect, and I like games that aren't perfect. That gives me reason to believe there's still something better to expect from the author, and I completely believe that. =)

Zelda The Wand Of Gamelon

Uh...this does not look at all like Zelda. Is that a good thing? I hate fan games anyway so...okay, I really just posted here because of how totally dumbfounded I am by iish's reference.
Read the thread starter's post. Wand of Gamelon was an awful Philips CD-i game. This is a fan game parodying Wand of Gamelon. It's supposed to be pretty bad, but at least you get to play as Zelda! xD

Orul? I think that outside of there is a good place to get a bit of money. Make sure to conserve your items well, and not waste them! They become plentiful in the future parts of the game, but in the beginning they're something to cherish! Since you have both the Hero and the Priest in your party, use them for healing as often as possible, and only when you need to! The "Heal" spell should work wonders for you in the beginning of the game, as it only costs 2 MP and you should ahve a fairly good amount of MP Items from your adventures in the previous dungeons. Or...should you? I can't remember if I put much in there, but I remember that I had enough to make it passed Orul.
Try and concentrate your Gil on better Weapons and Armor, and less on items! Unless they are the good status recover items, that is. Also, since you're in Orul, you now have access to the Magic Tab item at the item shop. It recovers 5MP to a single ally, but only on the world map...but it's an MP recovering item! So make sure to get about 10~ of them before you venture onwards.
I've already been doing everything you've asked, but thanks for the tip anyways. =)

Excellent! Another comments. And this one is quite lengthy to boot!
First of all, I'll have to thank you for downloading the game. I appreciate it. Though...where did you get that font? My god man, it looks atrocious! I'd be suprised if you said that you could actually read what the attacks weres, along with what the townfolk said!
RM2K's font has always been that way for me, on every computer I've run it. So unsurprisingly, I could still read everything. I'm used to it.

Second, don't worry about status effects and what effects an enemy. near every status effects affects every enemy. So if you find a mage, StopSpell 'em. If you find a heavy hitter that REALLY dishes out the damage, Blind 'em. I thought that trying to guess what would work on each enemy would be a hassle to the players, so I decided to make all of them effective. A good choice? A bad choice? I'll probably get mixed opionions, as I always do. But it certainly made it funner for me.
I find that a good choice. The problem is, the enemies are so tough you'd rather deal damage than cast status and risk getting hurt. The only one thus far that's been any use to me is blindness, which stops attacks altogether, and only because my healer who's the fastest can cast surround, hitting everyone with it when he's not healing. But then, when the enemies finally get an attack in, it hurts... hard. Either make the enemies slightly easier, or make the statuses more effective.
Status update: just made it to Orul. I'm running out of money.
What are you working on?
[Full/Complete Game] Dragon Fantasy II
Currently at Zanbui, training.
My experience near the beginning was extremely unpleasant, as I didn't realize there was a town nearby that I could save and heal at. So most of the first couple of events were spent praying to god I wouldn't get owned too badly before reaching the next healing point. It was only by sheer chance that I realized I could heal using the lake, despite it being pretty obvious to me that the statue was a save point. (As if the heavens had actually heard my distress) =P
The game has a great old-school feel to it. It's simplistic, yet it's very challenging as well. The simplicity, though, weights against it as well. I kept hoping to find some sort of weak point against my enemies, and have no clue if I ever did or not, as the game doesn't give you any sort of verification on that. Also, FFX has tainted my view of status magic, so I found it so frustrating when my enemies would still attack me unrestricted, even though they were blinded, that I ended up removing the inflicter from my party and replacing it with the Knight you see in the screenshot.
Overall, the game's an acquired taste. Train a little when you reach every new town, and you'll do fine. There's not a lot of depth, but that can be fun in it's own, difficult way.
What character do you choose
I like classes with well-rounded skill sets, some combo-ability, and preferably a weapon that hits from a notable distance, whether short-range (Dragoon) or long-range (Gunner of some kind). Even with those things, though, I'm somewhat vain and I might not like a class if the usual get-up for the character looks silly.
Will there ever be a successor for MUGEN?
Pokémon Diamond/Pearl/etc. Discussion Thread
Shuckle has hardly any attacking potential outside Accupressure. Instead, it focuses on using its ridiculous defensive power to setup on the opponent. It can lay down rocks (Stealth Rock), poison you (Toxic), or snipe your item (Knock Off). If you give it any lip, it'll just sleep in your face and start all over (Rest). And if all else fails, it even has a "bail-out" button to reach for a counter (Encore). Sandstorm makes the pain even worse...
