I'm looking for some feedback before I release a demo some time next week.
Besides centring the text in the command pop up and raising the HP and TP text above their respective bars, does anyone have any suggestions on improving the menu layout or even the battlechars?

Why would you change "Demon Ninja" ? is it because they are secretly... CYBORG NINJA??

I only did a quick glance but uh, I think the top portion of that screen is kind of wasted. In other words, you can "shift" the actual ground level of the battle background up to make space for the interface itself (so it doesn't interfere with the sprites - which are delicious I must add). I don't mind smaller box and text if that will help.

Your characters have stats.

The skulls on the top image are your Kill Kount. For every normal encounter you defeat (out of eight total on each map), you get +1 to your Kill Kount. The higher your KK, you get more/better rewards at the end of the floor.




Craze, one thing I liked most from your screens are the (promise of game) mechanics and the stats organization interface. If I can emulate those in Rm2k3 (which I have been trying to) it'd be awesome.

However, those are still VX RTP faces so...

ANOTHER MAXIMUM DAMAGE ?!?

...HOW are we going to go any higher, I mean we are already doing the MAXIMUM XP damage...

Fixing up Adalyn

Variety = good.
(opinions, opinions)

Sniper
Longest range, Constant damage, Slow speed can be countered with melees. Does not cause lag if you just use this gun and a melee (because you can't keep shooting - which cause lag)
Shotgun
Spread damage, but not constant damage. Too random (perhaps there is an error in the mechanic? or am I not close enough?)
Whip
Has lower damage than hammer, but faster charge and stun. Oh and more range. Makes hammer kind of...well...
Minigun
Pretty cool, but killing a single enemy takes forever; damage output too low; if you hold down the button ammo doesn't decrease, cause extreme lag.
Blaster/Flamethrower
I forgot, but blaster seems like a weaker version of shotgun. Damage output too weak (apparently enemies have tons of health!)? Perhaps if there is a burn effect which cause the enemy to randomly run away if you use flamethrower that would help?

I suppose you can:
1. Reduce enemy overall health
2. Assign attributes. This is what I actively use and recommend.

For example, some enemies are weak against impact and some are weak against piercing (honestly, do you need SLASH damage for guns? yes? w..well go ahead then).

Note: Impact Vs Piercing Vs Fire is the common staple in Front mission 4 and I think it works pretty all right.

Dear Ocean,

I find it increasingly difficult to play the game because Adalyn's wonderful racks assets guns keeps distracting me from maneuvering the game properly.

I kindly ask that you would look into this persistent bug.

Thanks for the review! I might try that hammer + whip combination sometime. Quite a bit was due to lack of time, but I'll see what I can fix. I'm getting ideas and I'll probably go ask for other feedback as well.

Do you think I should have removed the Heal skill outright and perhaps had more opportunities to heal, or was it something that was fine enough as an option and that I should just make the other skills more useful to compare?


In my opinion, the skill is fine. After all the only other viable option to heal in battle is through item pickup - which is limited and there is no storeable healing items in the game. Sometimes you just had a stroke of bad luck and take loads of damage due to positioning (or being trapped). That's when healing spell shines.

In addition, I find health-regaining system (outside of battle) a bit slow (and troublesome). There are 2 ways to do this :
1. Find barrels with Alcohol in it
2. Go to bar and pay for it

The problem is that both does not heal you fully (barrel is 1 time use only) so you are stuck with conserving health EVERY mission or just keep talking and talking again to the bartender (gets old).
(Or perhaps I just miss the explanation on how to heal other than get drunk?)

That is why, I think Healing spell is a nice touch.

I admit the other skills are also nice. Stealth basically allows you to go through the field unharmed (never tried it though) and slow is always a nice choice (berserk makes you...stronger?). These are good and I can see myself using them.

Sadly they override heal.. so... yeah. (I am a poor player I guess, I got hit a lot).

Thanks for the suggestion. Depending on the circumstances I'd probably use 2nd or 3rd (3rd because it differentiate the colour best)

Um, why not do the darker colour for each colour? So on the blue bits, use the dark blue, on the grey parts use the dark grey/black? Though of those four I'd have to pick either 1 or 2.

You got me man, I was too lazy to edit individual outline. Yes that would probably be best (and the one method I usually use), but it would be a shitload of work for this sprite sizes. Maybe if I feel like it.

The Fantasy horror one? I am not sure which you are referring to...

I... don't really kill a project, but store them in a folder for future editings. I still work on sprites for them (depending on mood really). A lot of them are finished (sprites) but probably will be left in dusts. =_=

It's actually static (screen doesn't animate, follows you as you move - I have no clue how to make it animating without looking kind of terrible), so it's pretty fugly methink.
