Is it possible to cause a "girl calls the player" event that doesn't set up a date at the end of the day? The character I'm making has a tendency to unintentionally pocket dial, and I wanted some of the events to reflect that.
The best way to handle this, I think, is to set this up as a normal story, but make the "PLACE = School".

Hmm, that would most likely work. I was thinking more along the lines of something like the random text message scene. Would setting the "PLACE = Bedroom" allow an event to fire at the end of the day or would it just make an awkward board game event?

I think she'll fit in. I have some questions, though rather technical in nature:

  • Is Kotone going to be stand-alone content?

  • What ID are you planning on using?

  • Damn you, Rule of Three!

  • I originally planned for her to be acquainted with Akari in some way due to mutual respect for music, but the character customizer wouldn't let me set her as a relation. I might still put her in as a cameo at the very least. If I end up not doing that, she will indeed be stand-alone.

  • I wrote in ID 70 while creating her. I haven't started on writing her story scenes so if I need to change it I can do that now with a minimum of hassle.

  • Nobody expects the Rule of Three!

Progress Update: I was able to fix the skin clipping by re-arranging layers; attempting to fix hair clipping now.
Hmmm...I had a similar problem while attempting to create my tachie for Noriko (the "hole" in the uniform when the arms were in certain positions). How did you wind up fixing it?

I dragged the "Chest_School" layer so it was above the "Arms_School" layer in the listing. Still haven't figured out why the two long hair styles clip through the chest, further testing is imminent (I sort of got sidetracked trying to come up with a name for my character, eheh).

Update: Upon further testing, the layer drag only works for the "behind the back" arm poses. The others will clip through the chest, but with some layer re-ordering and flagging my OCD I can make it so one arm can be behind the back with another in front.

Update 2: After looking at the built-in tachie, I've deduced that the long hair styles are meant to go behind the back, rather than cascading down the front. Silly me. Easily fixed via layer re-ordering, as with the arms/chest clip.

Semi-Related Edit: Is it possible to cause a "girl calls the player" event that doesn't set up a date at the end of the day? The character I'm making has a tendency to unintentionally pocket dial, and I wanted some of the events to reflect that.

---

Urgent Edit: I finished up my character's profile in the Character Customizer, and I wasn't sure if I was supposed to save under "All Files" or if there was a drop down to save as (a horrible oversight on my part for not checking). Long story short, my profile is now a "File" filetype, rather than a .txt as it should be. Is there any way to recover this or did I just screw over hours of work? Simply adding the .txt file extension saved my work.

(moved from Content Creation (Artistic) because I'm a dumbass)

So I'm on my merry way, clicking layers on and off to create my custom character when this happens:

I'm.. not sure how I'm supposed to fix this clipping issue for both the hair and that patch of skin on the girl's left side. I've used GIMP for a while, but I haven't done make-a-character layouts like this before, so I'm not sure what the problem is. I downloaded the english pdf file from the tools list on this page. I haven't been moving layers around so that couldn't be the problem (possibly the solution).

Any assistance would be appreciated. :)

Presenting...

Shiraki Kotone
the Nocturnal Pianist

~Can you follow your dreams?~

Kotone is a sleepy 2nd-year who seems to be on the verge of flunking out of high school at any given time, mostly due to her habit for taking naps during class. When she's not asleep she's somewhat shy, and has a tendency to stammer when nervous or flustered, but she warms up to people quickly. During the day. At night, she seems much more awake and vivid than she is during the day. At least, that's what she tries to show.

Despite her outward enthusiasm for the night life, Kotone's real reasons for being a night owl may not be as exciting. Though she tries her best to act as though her "real life" is at night, she slips up occasionally, giving a small glimpse of her usual self: tired and unfocused, with maybe a hint of depression? The player's goal is to help her sort out her two main problems: whatever it is she's trying to cover up by acting like a party animal, and her dangerously low grades. Without at least passing marks, Kotone will have to repeat second year, and her dream of playing jazz piano will be that much more unreachable. It could even be the key to her other problems.

"*yawn* Oh, hello. Do you like to sleep on the train too?"

~ ~ ~

Alright, now that I've got my attention-whoring introduction out of the way, what's the general opinion? Hell yeah? Flux no? Too cliche? Not cliche enough? I feed on your feedback (sounds gross, but it's actually quite nutritious). I already have all of her tachie done (the one posted here is her "Smile" pose), and her music is set. I posted in the Technical thread about what happened to her profile file, and I've yet to begin work on the specifics of her story, but I do have a general concept and idea in mind.

*Update: Edited the description for a bit of clarity. I want to get feedback on my story idea, but I don't want to tip my hand too early, and balancing that kind of thing is much more difficult at 1 AM.

I can confirm that the proxy does indeed let me view the link. Not sure why it's being blocked from my provider...

The site or possibly the whole domain might be getting blocked by some providers for whatever reason I don't know. A random thing to try: does this proxy link work?

Edit: After some searching, I seem to have found the source of the problems.

Neat. I suppose the 101/151 days is to provide padding for those of us who don't cheat and who are new to the game or exceptionally bad at handling a given girl (bad date spots, getting huggy too soon, failing stat checks, etc.)

I used up all 101 days my first playthrough, and even then I only got a generic ending with Riho, heh. Then I became a dirty cheater Then I started using the game files to figure out the best date sites and what stats I need where so I don't lock myself out of a route for not lack of knowledge. Of course, I suppose I'd learn that through the "Ask her type" dialogues, which would also make sense for the 101 day time limit seeing as you'd need to use more days to get information on your desired sweetheart. Playing on Normal or Hard would justify it as well.

Thinking back on it, I suppose I shouldn't be worrying about the time limit seeing as I can easily fill up the 101 days by playing it "naturally" instead of by looking at the game files. >_>

For some reason that website never loads for me. my browser says it doesn't exist or something

Also just wanted to note that I'm addicted to Keika's theme music now. Thanks a lot. :P

Edit: Completely unrelated, but here goes:

How is the game meant to be played out? With good RNG and persistence I'm able to get my target girl's ending at around the 50-day mark. I'm wondering if I'm supposed to be playing it by getting relationship points with all the girls or just focusing on one person, since the game lasts for 101 days and I've been finishing in half the time by focusing on one girl specifically. I suppose this is why the ring was created but it still feels a little hollow when I just zip to the end of the game after unlocking an ending since, let's face it, there's not much else for the story after unlocking their ending unless you have points with other girls; Which brings me back to my original question of how the game was meant to be played.

Sorry for all the text walls, your game's just pulled me in like nothing else and I like to learn about stuff like this.

Heartache 101 ~Sour into Sweet~

Ahh, gotcha; thanks! Another quick question: Is there a confession or do you and your chosen girl become "official" at the end of the 101 days?

Edit: Never mind; I just found out. I just wanted to know if using the ring would screw anything up after I had maxed out a relationship.

Edit 2: To prevent a double post, I'll just say this here: I absolutely love this game. It's too adorable and I find myself smiling every time I play it. I've played Miki's route, Akari's route, and got a generic ending with Riho. She was the first one I played though, and this was before I discovered the profile and story folders. Iam a dirty cheater, I'll admit it, but I only use them to find out stat priorities and what I'm doing wrong if i lock out an ending. I got the secret character ending this way as well but I nearly stumbled into it again by accident while replaying for Miki. I'm planning on doing Tsubasa, Keika, and Shihoko's routes next, in that order, as I haven't even met Hinami yet.

All the girls were cute (especially at the Love/Lovesick stage), but I feel like I need to emphasize how adorable Akari was to me. I literally could not stop smiling at her Love+ stages and her story is incredibly heartwarming to go through. I thought it was funny in a cute way how the secret character's affection skyrocketed over four different dialogue boxes after telling her you could come to love her.

Bottom Line: Cutest game ever, i much prefer it to other VNs. Thank you for making this.
