BEN_RANDOM'S PROFILE

I'm Ben_Random. I've been around since 2008 but I didn't really get active here since Super RMN Bros. 2. That, an unfinished game, and a couple of contests sums up what I've done with game making on this site. I find that my main purpose here is writing. I have a few tutorials out there, as well as some reviews on Mario fan games such as RMN Bros. or Mario V.S. the Moon Base.

Now with the internet the way it is these days, you can probably use just this information to stalk me.

Lag Fix in VX

author=prexus
I told you my piece. I've tried making a pacman game with events before, it doesn't work unless you supplement it with custom scripts which I am assuming you don't have the ability to do. If you do have the ability to script, it's actually really basic. You just create an object for pellet, with a special variable to determine if it is a power pellet, and you can use the character class as a base for it.

Check my game page. Read the goal. You'll understand why I don't want to do this.

WHOAMG TWO SENTENCE BLOG POST NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Sorry about the lag problem, I wish I could help but alas, I don't have VX. I should ask, though: are you dead set on not using scripts for this game? It seems like you really want to get it out there and if converting to a script would solve the lag problem, I dunno... I think you should do that.

I'm sure the community members here can help you with it.

It's a shame that Amaranth's Anti-Lag script doesn't help you. If there were no graphical glitches from configuring it within a smaller area, I think you'd be totally set with it. :(

I am not opposed to using a couple of scripts to make the game functional, I just don't want to use a "PacMan" script that will make the game for me.

Glad I could help. :)
Your help is much appreciated! There still are some things I'm unsure about. But, I don't want to spoil anything. Character biographies aren't really spoilers.
I agree, but while we're on the subject of char. bios, I have a suggestion:
Add face graphics next to the char. names, possibly sprites as well. Just give the reader and idea of what the character looks like.
I'm really bad at separating individual faces from their face sets so that could be a problem. However! I have a friend that is currently drawing each character. As soon as she's finished, I'll post them all in a blog. I still wish I knew how to separate faces from face sets.

And on this comment, I got to run so I'll check back later with this!

Post a link to the full faceset and I'll do it for you.

I like to have humorous dialogue but never straying too far away where it becomes childish or just random lines. I think I'll mostly focus on the negative relationship between the knight and the pirate and have the main character sort of get along with all. I've yet to come up with a plan for the guard.
The guard should be witty and rude, always correcting the knight and pirate.
Actually, he's the Captain of the Guard and is rather incompetent and untrustworthy. He is always accepting bribes and spends most of his time doing nothing to benefit the village and it's defense. Oh, and he's also rather dumb. With that said, would it make enough sense for him to be witty and rude?
Oh, hadn't read the characters page yet. Woops. I have another thing then:

He is never understanding a bit of the arguments that the pirate and knight have, making him a comical character.
That could work! Oh, and it's okay that you didn't read the characters page. I didn't either and I even typed it! But shh! Anyway, I like your idea of him not exactly understanding the arguments between the knight and pirate. In fact, I was sort of leaning that way myself. I'll definitely consider it!

Your maps might be too big with too many events, try splitting your maps up. The way I used to do it when I had a big map was take the map, copy and paste it, then delete one half of one map, then the other half of the other map then link them both up and etc.

*EDIT*
Also you might be able to submit this into the forums under "Help & Requests". Just don't mention that it's about your game make it about the VX engine in general.

*2nd EDIT*
Haha never mind, I see you have already done that.
The map is 20x25. Not to big, but how would I "Split it Up?"
Well if your map is that small then chances are it's not the map that is the problem. Again I would copy your game file and keep experimenting with removing scripts and events on your back-up game until you find what is slowing it down. Keep in mind that common events can slow down a game also.

I know that scripts can't be the problem, (given I have none), and the map size isn't the problem either.
This means that the problem lies in the events. There is one on almost every tile on the map. What I'm looking for is something that will decrease the lag, while still giving me the ability to place the events.
