Misaos Categories 2018 (nominations now open)
author=SgtMettoolStrongly disagree. You're completely eradicating any nuance the Misaos have left if you do this.
Remove these:
Raddest Setting - A bit redundant with other categories like "Best graphics"
Trippiest Game - Largely dependent on whether or not any strange/absurdist games get submitted to the site.
"Lawsuit Waiting To Happen" Award - Redundant with Best Fangame (like it or not). Rips-and-edits games are also becoming less common. And as others have said, calling attention to this kind of thing is a big risk in general.
"Kefka Award" Best Antagonist - Combine with Best Storytelling.
Best Protagonist/Characters - Also combine with Best Storytelling
The Most Boss of Fights! - Combine with Best Gameplay
Sleeper Hit of the Year - Just seems unnecessary.
Best Intro and Best Finale - Can be easily combined into other categories.
There's nothing gained by narrowing it down to so few categories, but there is something lost, I think. Some games excel very -narrowly- (such as having a great intro, a strong villain, or whatever), why not use the Misaos to give those developers some recognition?
Especially the "Raddest Setting" category. Establishing an effective sense of setting/atmosphere is a much different skill than simply saying "Best Art."
Plenty of noteworthy films, similarly, have compelling characters but perhaps a lacking plot.
There are hundreds of games released on this site every year, each with its own strengths or flaws. I don't think streamlining the awards to such an extent is a helpful way to celebrate that diversity.
Everything on udemy.com is $10.99 as part of a New Year special. Anyone wanting to learn pixel art or a new programming language, take advantage! Some of these courses are normally $200.
I got about halfway through some of the pixel ones. Admittedly, the subject matter is pretty basic (meaning, if you know anything about pixel work or how to design your own tiles, you're probably ahead of the game already). Still, for such a discount, might be worth going through the exercises.

Lakria Legends
author=KarmaPlethoraauthor=LibertyOnce again, Liberty nitpicks when confronted with a better developer and a game she would never be able to produce. The fact that even the worst parts of Lakria Legends are more enjoyable than the best parts of any of your games doesn't mean you always have to be so envious and hateful. We all know you want to destroy as many developers' reputations as possible (see the Astoria incident), but this madness has to stop rather sooner than later. Just take this lesson in game development and man up. Kudos for KoopaKush not only for his great game, but also for handling Liberty's grotesque "feedback" in such a professional manner.
Started the game yesterday to see what all the hullaballoo was about. Feedback so far:
It doesn't take a Picasso to critique art.
The "quality" of Liberty's games (which is your opinion, btw) is irrelevant to anything she posted here. Show some respect.
Original Soundtrack
Great tracks. In the first three especially, they have a real sense of calm and serenity.
Agreed!

Kroven Caverns is just so amazing! I love the ambiance and percussion on this track especially.
Agreed!

W-wow.. XD
Did you draw any of those tiles, Luchino? If so, that's pretty astonishing.
Besides the tiles, those maps have a great tone and sense of "temperature." The interior radiates warmth - the room looks cozy and regal. The blue tint on the other two shots emits a bitter cold.
The only potential flaw (might be kinda nitpicking) is the strong black outline on the character. The sprite itself looks good, but it sorta contrasts with the objects on the map, which don't have very pronounced outlining.

Been working with the (very talented) Caladium to further enhance the shading on BR's title screen. The foreground isn't finished yet, but it's getting there. Animated version will be unveiled very soon. ^-^

My game is one of the top sold games with RPG Maker tag on Steam.

On another note, I can't believe this is a real status. It only reinforces the notion that you have a serious lack of self-awareness when it comes to bragging about your own creative achievements, "fan-base", and social media followers.
Edit:
Because every topic or status he has posted -has- gotten us to pay attention to him, and it's been a cycle for months now.Like, I'm sorry, but I don't think Tuomo is here for feedback or to improve himself as a developer. I feel like he's just here to sell things and that's why I think people are getting frustrated. ]Pretty much this.
There's another person I can think of who thrives on cycles of attention, no matter at what cost or how outrageously inaccurate everything he tweets is, lol.
IMO, games like this just reinforce certain stereotypes about RPGMaker on Steam. And shamelessly bragging about it is understandably irritating to some people here.
[RM2K3] Intense Lag and Slowdown
author=Link_2112
Disable things one by one until it stops lagging. Examine what you turned off.
You could then try disabling different events to see the result.
You might find one that has a code error, no wait, or something looping that shouldn't. Or it might be that you reached some data threshold, where you are simply doing too much.
But ya, first try it on multiple computers to be sure.
Good advice.
Yeah, I'm thinking that may be it, or it has something to do with my GPU.
My testers mentioned there was *some* lag, but nothing as crazy as I'm experiencing. XD It's just weird how badly Rm2k3 runs on newer machines, when 5-8 years ago the problem was nonexistent.

Hm, I always noticed a lot of his maps were "inspired" by Meiscool or BadLuck etc... but I guess you could say the same about others too.
Not that it matters, cause I think this project is on permanent hiatus.

Not quite. It was very much inspired by her map though.
[RM2K3] Intense Lag and Slowdown
Over the past six months, I’ve started to encounter a considerable “lag” and slowdown while playtesting my game in RM2k3. When it happens, the FPS rate dips so low, that some of the maps even become unplayable. At first I thought it was just my laptop/hard drive storage, but even after resetting Windows, the problem persisted.
The strange part is, I don’t think the lag is resulting from any complex Common Events or parallel process code, because most of these maps never previously had any issue. The maps are admittedly detailed/with numerous animations - but there’s nothing theoretically that should be game-breaking to this extent.
Has anyone who still uses (or previously used) 2k3 encountered this issue? It doesn’t happen it battles, ironically enough.
The maps do use:
- Lots of high file-size WAV ambient sounds
- Pictures scrolling
- Moving-animated events
There are also a lot of unused MP3s in my project folder, so perhaps that’s contributing to it somehow? Could the DynRPG patches be a factor? Etc. This is the “Tsukuru” version if that matters.
Hoping to find some way to minimize the problem.
