All Hallows' Event 2013

Interesting, now I only need a good idea...and stop working on my current game for the time being. :X

The biggest problem is that the RTP must ALWAYS be installed on the comp the game is being played on when the game was made with VX Ace Lite. It is weird, even when the folder includes the ENTIRE RTP it still tells the person it needs to be installed, and then it doesn't even draw from it! The blasted thing draws from the included files only and doesn't work if any are missing from inside it!

Or at least that has been the way with both of the games I've made with "VX Ace Lite".

You have to open the Game.ini file with a text editor and change the second line "RTP=RPGVXAce" to "RTP=", for it to stop asking for the RTP.

High level boss battle archetypes

Yay, got one that hasn't been mentioned yet! :P

The Twins - If one of them dies, the other becomes insanely strong, wiping the party in just a few turns.
One could also combine this with a boss that summons minions and gets stronger for each one killed.

Can't play VX Ace in fullscreen mode.

I'd rather not mess around with games you didn't make. Also, how would you apply that to packed games?

If this isn't a graphics card thing, then it's some program that tries to stay in the foreground and pushes the game out of fullscreen mode again.

...just curious, is there a parameter that allows you to start games in fullscreen mode (like in RM2k(3)) per default?

My bad, was misreading the OP.

Can't play VX Ace in fullscreen mode.

Have you tried Fullscreen++ yet?
Might fix whatever problem you have, plus this one gives you more options compared to ALT+ENTER.

Randomness

Edit: this would probably be a more constructive topic if more of you were inside my brain and I didn't have to communicate, because I think I'm failing hardcore

Oh I get it now, you want to add randomness, and make it fun (like you said in your OP!).

Let's see, one random skill I enjoyed playing with (until I got more reliable attacks anyway) was Metronome in Pokemon. If used, it executes a random attack out of all existing ones, making it very unreliable, but still fun since most of the time you'll still do some damage and every now and then, you'll have that big one hit ko.
Which I think is what can make randomness fun: low investment (one turn), low chance to get a game changer (one hit ko) and at least a decent return a lot of the time.

Hiatus and Cancelled Games

I'm not a game maker and really know nothing about the creation side.

But it's so frustrating when I see a game that is on Hiatus or Cancelled or simply was started two years ago with no updates :(

I love this site and also playing the games here. Yes, they are free and that helps :)

But when I see what looks to me like a really interesting game with great screen shots I feel like I really found a game I could play and enjoy.....then I see the Hiatus or cancelled notice and my world comes crumbling down around me....is that a little dramatic ?? :)

Ever since my brother hooked me on the original Legend of Zelda I've been playing these games.

Please, if your thinking of going on Hiatus or not finishing your game, think about game players like myself and finish your damn game or you could be in a lot of trouble. Think about me coming to your house in the middle of the night and doing something ruthless to you. :)

OK, I've said my piece so have a great day.
I like this post, I like it a lot!

Except...you know, the whole the middle of the night ruthless part.

...Guys, seriously though? This is like the greatest thing ever!
I think I'm gonna print this out and place it next to my other greatest motivation in life.

So the next time when you guys are thinking about cancelling your game or putting it on Hiatus, think about Linkis!

Friggin' Linkis!!

I feel that this is what you should take away from Linkis' post instead of "HOW DARE YOU GUYS DON'T FINISH YOUR GAMES SO THAT I CAN PLAY THEM!!!"

I know I would feel better just thinking about people crying themselves to sleep, as they writhe in agony, waiting for me to finish my game...wait, that came off wrong.

In this case, stealing an item has a 75% success rate, but you might get an item you don't need, like you might get a healing item when you have full health or a haste item when you're already hasted. You also might get a damage + silence item when the enemy doesn't cast magic, or a damage + blind item when the enemy is immune to blind, or a healing item when you're at 75% health; these are useful, but not ideal, which makes it difficult for me to pinpoint the exact chance of getting a "good item." 50% maybe? If all you want is damage, you will actually be doing, on average, about 50% more damage per round than other jobs can do with their first abilities. It's just going to be a lot more unpredictable.

You're basically giving this ability another chance to fail, just in case it dares to hit. :P
I'd at least make it so that the stolen item depends on the creature you steal from. That way, the player has to decide who to steal from, and plan ahead. Much more fun than praying to the RNGods, twice. Then I'd remove missing altogether!

I find there's two kinds of RNG: bad (failing) and good (a nice bonus, but not required to win), and missing definitely belongs to the former.

Something I did to make more fun rng, was to have a character inflict poison on critical hits. The player can then build towards more crit, or leave it as is and be satisfied with the one ability that makes him auto crit every once in a while.

Pokemon X and Pokemon Y - the 6th generation confirmed!

I really need to get some work done before this comes out...

Fennekin's evolution looks kinda lackluster, especially with that stupid stick sticking out of its tail, let's hope the final evolution looks better than that. :X

Finstermen

The music and sounds are from Pokemon Blue/Red and Pokemon Gold/Silver.

The battles may be a bit too simplistic, but that's what I wanted to do as well for my first game. Keep the choices simple, but different.
Another problem may be that I buffed the sorcerer too much, as his play style is vastly different from the other 5 Finstermen - kill fast, or be killed fast. :P Maybe try one of the other Finstermen and the hard difficulty!

5 Minutes seems short, but then again, the sorcerer does end fights quickly :P

About extending the length:
I've got ideas to make a full game similiar to this, but this one won't be extended, since some of the systems in place wouldn't work in a longer game.
My biggest problem was that I couldn't make it so that when one Pokemon Finsterman gets beaten, you get to send out the next one. :/
Which is pretty much the number one reason the game is so short.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback, guys!

YAY, finished my very first game!

Thanks! And of course there are no bugs*, haha!
