That's amazing, didn't expect that long of a reply honestly. Thanks for that, some real good advice in there!
Just in time for my next project, too.
Gonna start it next week, and I'll try to make it one that's a little bit longer, yet gets finished at the same time! :P

DEViL::ender
Alright, just finished your game in about an hour and 10 minutes.
Here are my thoughts:
The beginning seems to last too long compared to what comes after that. It took me one hour to beat the first part, and only 10 minutes to do the rest, which to me seems like it should be the other way around.
Starting with lots of skills, items and party members right off the bat is the part where you mock your own typ of games, I think? If so, it really should've been the other way around, imo!
I really liked the slower start of the second part, though. Having fewer abilities, items and enemies to worry about works so much better when beginning a game, and I'd definitely like to see a more fleshed out one like that.
I did die twice, once when fighting the dragon, and another time at the vampire, since I wasn't using the status effects properly mostly.
So yeah, make a game like the second half of DEViL::ender is what I'm saying!

Thanks for the feedback, and glad you liked it!
I may have made it a bit too easy after watching a friend play it for 1 hour and 40 minutes with Mikki/Leo, obviously having quite some trouble. :X
But, eh, I'd rather this game be too easy than too hard.
I agree about an extra map before the boss, actually, but I do seem to have trouble creating more content for my games.
Need to work on that. Got any tips mr. 378973289-hour-games in 3 days? :P
Speaking of which, downloaded DEViL::ender, gonna check it out tomorrow!

I know I should be spriting but here's this:
I wouldn't want to live in a world where there is something that should've been done over this.
Pandora's Present Review
First of all, thank you very much for this review!
About the contest requirements: I did have prayer at one point too, but I cut it when I missed the deadline.
I definitely agree about the introductions taking too long. Worst part is, I hated doing them too. :X May have even beenthe a reason I wasn't able to finish the game on time.
Sad to see that you didn't like the ending. The one I had originally planned had them go to bed at the end, and wake up to a Christmas with their presents in their right place, implying that it might've been a dream, or something.
Again, thanks for the review. :)

What are you thinking about? (game development edition)
Thinking about which kind of game I'll do next, now that I finally finished Pandora's Present.
Either a fairy tale like adventure, where the main character enters an enchanted forest as part of a courage test, and tries to get out with the help of magical animal companions.
Or a more traditional RPG, with a group of adventurers finishing one dungeon (not sure about the details on that one yet).
The game should be doable in about a month's time either way.

author=SgtMettoolauthor=ByahI liked the fact that you presented the battles as more like puzzles than straight-forward battles. Each one has a solution to it and you can't just spam your strongest skills and hope to bulldoze your way through most of them. There were only a small handful of battles in what I've played that could be beaten with brute force, but the amount of strategy involved was very refreshing.
Also, I'd be interested in hearing how the battles were. Too hard, too easy, too hard to follow?
I was originally going to say that the lack of Game Overs hindered the experience and eliminated consequence, but then I ended up liking the fact that you have to adjust your party and strategy if you're faced with a complex challenge.
Thank you for the feedback. :)
That's exactly what I was going for with this game's battles, good to hear that it did work out. As for game overs, one could just save in front of an enemy anyway, and load accordingly. Might as well make it easier for the player. :P
I really want to combine those puzzle elements with a more traditional RPG in my next game. You know, instead of battles having a tacked on element system, and/or just being an attack spamfest. Interested in seeing how that will turn out.

I gave this a download and played about half of it (I intend to play the rest). I love the look and overall aesthetic of the project. It's incredibly light-hearted and charming and it felt like a feel-good, heartwarming Christmas special like you'd see on TV. Excellent work! :D
One thing I noticed: If you lose a battle that you encounter on a sliding ice tile, you're immediately re-engaged and can't back out to open the menu.
Thanks for the kind words, appreciate them. :)
I actually know about the sliding thing, but I'm just not sure how I'd go about fixing that. One thing you can do is change direction after the battle ends, it seemed to work for me.
@Pizza: Glad to hear that. :)
If anyone's having trouble beating the enemies on Chillwind Hill and/or the boss, I just uploaded a more balanced version. While it should be fine with the Dora/Ralph combo, it's quite hard without at least Dora. Leo was especially weak, and got buffed accordingly!

NOW I NEED SLEEP (4 AM over here, but I had to get that v1.1 out before going to bed).
It Is Finished!
author=Ratty524Thank you. :)author=ByahIt'll be well worth the wait. :)

Damn you steam version of RPGMaker VX ACE!
I have to re-upload the game, since I have the wrong starting position set.
My bad, I'm horrible.
It should be fine now!
Edit:
Seems like it didn't update the download?
Or I messed up again... :X
Re-uploaded for the second time, please work now!
Edit2: New version available with minor fixes, and some balance changes.
If you're having trouble beating the game, just download the newest version and copy your save files over. It's mostly a problem for people that play with Leo, since he was kinda weak.

Damn you Steam version of RPGMaker VX ACE!
I have to re-upload the game, since I set the wrong starting position.
My bad, I'm horrible.
EDIT: Done re-uploading.
If you have RPGMaker VX Ace, and don't feel like downloading again, just edit the initial party to just Dora, and set her starting location on the map CONTROLS in the middle of those 4 events.
You need to copy a game.rvproj2 file into the main folder first to be able to edit the game.
