RPG Maker VX Ace Sample Games
Realistic Difficulty Curve?
author=Crystalgate
Another reason to start the game easy is that in RPGs, the option to be skilled just doesn't exist early on. The less skills or other commands the player has access to, the greater the chance that hard enemies can only be overcome with either grinding or luck.
Ooh, I love it when devolopers increase the difficulty, but still don't give you any skills whatsoever. I think it was Last Scenario where I actually died on the first boss, without being able to do anything about it. On the second try I used the exact same strategy of mashing that attack button real hard and I won (might've mashed it harder, faster and stronger).
Hello
If your game has these words in its title, it's a big red flag
The problem actually isn't with those words themselves, but rather the mindset of people who might use them. So changing the name of your game to a different one probably won't do much.
That said, professionals often use easily recognizable words associated with their theme/type of game. See Dragon Age, Pokemon, Legend of Mana/Zelda/Puppyland and basically every other game ever.
So, uh, just make a good game and don't worry about the name too much? :P

think about the time constraints of performing fucking feng shui on your tile editor.
I laughed.
Agreed, keep it simple and practical and perhaps even finish your game!
I find those overly detailed and heavily parallaxed maps using the RTP (XP and VX are the worst) quite ugly. :X
Making Random Encounters More Bearable
Two other methods I've seen people use:
Have some kind of magic thingy in your dungeons that magically dis-/enables random encounters. Obviously placed at the end of the dungeon, so you can still search for treasure/hidden stuff after defeating the boss.
The other one is from cthulhu saves the world (pretty good game btw): Have a finite number of random encounters for each dungeon. If the player still wants to fight some monsters, have an optional start-a-random-encounter command in your menu.

Hello
Thanks everyone.
@Gourd_Clae: I meant that as a joke. :P
@Kentona: Thanks, altough I guess I could just create a new account, but I'm pretty sure that counts as (cyber) littering.

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

Working on a way too cute sprite for a black knight.
@Jude: Ooh, I like getting instantly in to houses (to rob them of all valuables), no switching maps and all. Probably a pain to event though. :X
Hello
I've been stalking these forums for a while now and I must say I find the discussions, especially game design & theory, more interesting compared to other RPGMaker forums (rumor has it this gets you a makerscore bonus?).
I've also been trying to create a game for around a year, but never managed to get past the design & theory phase...until now! So since I actually made some actual progress on a project, I decided to sign up and post a gamepage and stuff (not quite yet though, still needs some work).
Also, I somehow messed up my registration and forgot to add an exclamation mark to my nickname. It's supposed to be Byah! (sounds way more shouty!), could a mod please change it?
