Final Fantasy 13 Delayed

Final Fantasy XII was a really really good Final Fantasy. I'd venture the best since VI.

Why didn't people like it?

So, uh..this pissed me off...

Having a problem and thinking people are lame are two different things.

Anyways there's a lot of taking things too seriously in this thread.

Final Fantasy 13 Delayed

I'd rather buy a PS3 than an Xbox360. I'm assuming in 2 years time it'll be quite a lot cheaper and a blue-ray player and all that. I hope in that time they redesign it so it doesn't look lame as well. If not, waiting three years is possible.

I really see the series in groups of 6 now. Making 13 similar to 1 and 7 in terms of what they're going for. Which will make 14 stupid and quirky, and 15 forgettable.

Final Fantasy 13 Delayed

I just watched the latest trailer people here were talking about a few days ago, and oh man was it amazing! I'll buy a PS3 in 2 years time and definitely buy this and MGS4.

What are you currently reading?

Underground was really good.

Now it's onto The Trial finally. I've read halfway and stopped about 5 years ago (when I was about 20).

Words you know, but don't know the meaning of

There's two that I sort of know and don't know:

1) Chautauqua (Maybe Canuck can explain this one to me?)

2) Succinct (I sort of know what it means, but not quite.)

I could look these up, but I like hearing people try to explain things.

I take it we both are readers of Pirsig?

I don't know the words exact definition. I thought it was a native American (which tribe I forget) word for story, but within the language the word story means more than it does in English (something to do with a journey with a purpose or something), so he used the word in its original language.

In Lila he did a similar thing with the Japanese concept (word) "mu" (?), and with that word I think he took a few liberties with the word to make it fit his own, so maybe he did the same with that word.

In this topic I briefly comment on every video game I've ever played.

I've said it elsewhere, but I think Final Fantasy VII was a great game and really hurt RPGs. It was the first RPG for many people and all these people expected an RPG to focus so much on story (and graphics) and usually didn't care so much about the battle system, while before Final Fantasy VII is was quite different. The Materia system was one of the things most talked about in magazines before it came out (similar to double and triple techs were just as big (or bigger) as the ability to travel through time in Chrono Trigger).

So great game, but added so many new fans to RPGs that the old fans that didn't come along for the ride had a lot less games that focused on what they liked.

I guess the positive was that there were many more game companies bringing over games from Japan and that probably wouldn't have happened without Final Fantasy VII. So good on it for bringing RPGs into the mainstream, and bad on it for bringing the focus away from what it was one before.

edit: I thought about it, and now disagree with what I said. It's not that cut and dry.

Best and Worst Zelda Game

Best: Zelda 2: the Adventures of Link/Oracle games

Worst: The Minish Cap or the Phantom Hourglass

Majora's Mask was quirky and a lot better than Ocarina, but both aren't the best or the worst.

Anticipated games the most of 2009

Dragon Quest IX and VI if it comes out this year.
