I haven't beaten the demo just yet, but I will say that this is one of the better RTP games I've played. Story's kinda pedestrian, but otherwise, well-done!

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

Working on a lengthy RPG with a super-depressing story. Will feature a custom (but still turn-based) battle system, but emphasis will be on the ultra-moody story telling.

Yeah, I think the easiness is great to start, and that it'd be good to gradually increase the difficulty later on.

And yeah I already have ya on AIM, so we'll stay in touch. :)

I think you have a good start, and I think you could develop this into a darned good game. A few pointers:

- Your mapping works, so congrats on that. I'm assuming the empty areas are ones you plan on working on later.
- The difficulty is good for the beginning--a cakewalk, easing the player in, I like that.
- Multi-screen towns are sweet. Cool stuff.

A bit more critical (please don't read too much into this, just giving feedback):

- The title screen could use a little more work. Adding the title in a spiffy font would be a good start.
- FF7 rocks, but I'd choose a lesser known song as the battle theme.
- When Jake and the Unknown Man walk away, the controls freeze and never unfreeze.
- An intro would be nice. For example, you could have the game begin with the party entering town and discussing their arrival, rather than opening with the party inside the inn without a backstory.
- The dialogue needs some fleshing out, but again, I know this is just a demo, so you're fine at the moment.
- Hiding a few items in objects inside the houses in town would be neat.
- Using a fighting animation/sound when the player gains an item is... different. Maybe it's just me but I'd go with something that fits the event a little more.
- The encounter rate on the overworld needs to be lowered a bit.

I know that may seem like a lot, but it really isn't. Nice start.
